Mr March Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I don't even want to know where that was going Quote
Phil K Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I think, if you do that, you're dropping Frontier down a notch. That just doesn't say "Macross" to me. The last time they just tried to make a Macross that said "Macross" to fans, we wound up with Macross II. Screw that crap. Quote
dreamweaver13 Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 (edited) So I'm wondering now, why is Sheryl still "all natural", when it seems to go against the very nature of the Galaxy fleet? If the Nome connection is real, I am wondering if her mother didn't disappear because of something the Galaxy had her involved with, and if they already have plans for Sheryl? Interesting. nome connection? are you referring to sarah and mao? gasp.. what if they (NUNS) already found out where sarah nome was 17 (or whatever sheryl's age is) years ago in a place that normally wouldn't be accessible due to fold dislocation.... and then... oh you know where i'm getting at. ok, back to our regular programming: why are you ganging up on klan, i mean, misaforever? .... he's not a goat. (sorry, MrMarch!) Edited May 20, 2008 by dreamweaver13 Quote
Duke Togo Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I was thinking Mao's granddaughter, but who knows. In the end, it could just be another "nod" to previous Macross productions. Quote

treatment Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 My favorite non-mecha shot from the episode below. Graham Man, this is why Ishtar's still the babe of Macross: Ranka's flat on the topside, while Sheryl's flat down the bottom. Quote
Graham Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I really wanna know who the 5 people who voted negative are. OK, I can just about understand a negative vote for episode 6, but certainly not for episode 7. My mind just can't grasp how any Macross fan cannot think that that was a kick-ass episode. Heh, I bet the haters are Robotekkies, disappointed that Admiral Lick Hunter hasn't showed up yet. Graham Quote
Cowboy17 Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I'm hoping the Quarter transforms into a big gun and the Battle25 dual wields it with its Gunship. That would be sick. This would be the shittiest thing ever. Quote

Heh, I bet the haters are Robotekkies, disappointed that Admiral Lick Hunter hasn't showed up yet. Graham Yeah, I noticed that, too...I kind of wish the negative voters for this ep would've given reasons why they disliked it, like "There are too many asteroids," or "I hate Fire Bomber and they mentioned Planet Dance in this episode," or "Vomit jokes are not funny," or "Ranka's a shemale with a glowing tummy, and that's just unnatural," or "Giant robots that turn into planes? Pop singers? Love triangles??? This is not what I watch Macross for!!!" The above reasons really are the only things I can think of as for why someone wouldn't like this one. Unless they're die-hard Luca fanboys who don't want to see him do anything stupid. Ever. Quote

Graham Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I was checking out the previews episode, and I'd just like to point the attention to details now, although, Sheryl concert is recycled animation from episode 1, they edited the missing earring... I don't think it's all recycled footage. While I haven't compared eps 1 & 7 side by side, I think there is some new fooootage in there not previously shown. Graham Quote
Radd Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Finally saw it, now that the fansub is out. "Our ship will now enter close quarters melee combat with the Vajra mothership." That sums up the episode, right there. Also, Bobby is all kinds of awesome behind the wheel. Quote
stray Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 So... was that Sheryl and Ranka's 'song energy' that reached Alto in the mothership? Hmmmm.... Lots of Macross 7 references throughout, for sure. I really dug the Gattai translation notes they included with the sub, classy. Quote
Radd Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 (edited) Also, it's very clear that the VF-27s are not a part of the Vajra force. I can't wait to see where this is going. A three way battle? Another SMS type group? A special branch of the NUNS? Part of another human/zentraedi government? *edit* Oh, and another obvious possibility, given how much they liked to mention that the Galaxy was heavily financed by corporate interests, a corporate interest trying to get its hands on Vajra technology? *edit* Verra eenteresting. Also, the shot of what appears to be the Battle 25 command crew gives me hope yet that we'll also see the larger cap ships going into battle eventually. I suspect I'm in the minority, but I am a fan of the New Macross ships like Battle 5, 7, and 13. Edited May 20, 2008 by Radd Quote

Heh, I bet the haters are Robotekkies, disappointed that Admiral Lick Hunter hasn't showed up yet. Graham Well I didn't vote negative, but there were a couple of things that didn't make it the "most amazing episode ever" for me/ It was going really good until the whole Macross Quarter sequence... thats where I thought they went downhill fast. It seemed to me be something more appropriate for Gurren Laggan than Macross. Up until this point Macross bent the laws of physics in alot of places, but this really took a willing suspension of disbelief to watch it accelerate to high speeds in seconds and weave around as if it were big valkyrie. Up until this point warships were represented as fairly static units that carried massive amounts of weaponry. You could make the argument that it was like that in DYRL... but this seemed so much more contrived and unbelievable. And then to have it go and open the gun mouth of the battleship was ridiculous. Risking SMS's main piece of hardware to save two pilots by opening up an aperture pushes the envelope of believability, as did the whole put the carrier on its back to hold onto the cannon idea. If people were complaining about battle 7 having fingers, this was an order of magnitude worse than before. You can hate on me all you want, I still love this series and think its great. But I could have done without the Macross 1/4 theatrics. Edited May 20, 2008 by Noyhauser Quote
DestroidDefender Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 (edited) OMG I'm just...wow. That had to be the coolest episode of mecha anime I've ever seen. I know - I feel like Comic Book Guy " Best Episode Ever!" But honestly how great was it to see all the Valkyrie action, the Koenig Monster and the Macross Q Storm Attacker mode? And it even advanced the plot - take that macross 7 episode 20! (LOL just kidding). I know I'm gushing but it just feels so great to have new Macross that actually feels like "classic" Macross and build on the established universe. EDIT and Destroids too! Oh My! And I enjoyed the Storm Attacker because it reminded me of DYRL. What's the point of having a humanoid configuration space fortress if it can't do stuff like we saw in in this episode? Edited May 20, 2008 by DestroidDefender Quote
Radd Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 To be fair, the Quarter hardly moves like a Valkyrie. Comments about that are rather exaggerated. Not arguing it was realistic, but even a VF-1 would have flown circles around it. The most Valk-like thing was moving the carrier arm to the back, which I thought was actually the most over-the-top part of the whole thing. Quote

Except the Howard Mason comment was supposed to be deleted with the other VLC-breaking ones but I accidentally left that one in along with another one I think. Long day. I'd also like to see these phrases that people find "very dodgy" because I'd like to know whether we've either fallen prey to terrible Japanese phrasing (this happens all the time in this show), our English grammar is breaking down or we're writing at too high a level for the average watcher to understand. Radd, my comment comparing M1/4 to valkyrie was a hyperbole, but I still found the entire sequence over the top. Again I'm not trying to be overly nitpicky, and I like almost everything else about the series... just it didn't really seem to be as if it was needed to make the episode better. Gubaba Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 These votes REALLY need to be made public. This IS a close knit community after all. I'd love to see who voted negative for this episode. Well, it IS pretty close-knit, but there are at least 300 members who have never made a post, so we surely don't know EVERYONE. We know who one of the negative votes was from, but all he said was, "Worst Macross F episode ever," with no further explanation. Now I don't think this should be a witch hunt, but I certainly am curious about what people disliked about this one...I mean, BESIDES Ranka being a shemale with a glowing tummy, and the Macross Quarter moving like a thirteen-year-old gymnast...
