Count yourself lucky your 360 even works. :D

Fansubs may be a little late this week, considering the trouble with the RAWs.

Yes, however Shinsen HAS a RAW themselves so no need to be behind :p:)

Posted
Indeed. I hope the HQ raw delay doesn't slow them down, although if they want to use it as an excuse they're more than welcome to

Seriously, I try not to be impatient when it comes to fansubbers. They work for free to bring us something that we otherwise probably wouldn't get, so if they need to take their time it's okay with me.

That said, I hope they get it out today... I gotta say that this ep is the first one that really felt 'Macrossy' to me. Anyone else feel that way?

Very true on the fansubs, regardless of the quality or which one comes out first I'm just happy there's people doing it at all. I just watched all 7 episodes so far (with limited understanding of 7 though) and really kind of started to appreciate the pacing of the series so far. I'm still kind of on the fence as far as the high school aspect though.

This might've come up already as far as episode 7, but when Alto ditched his Valkyrie, he *did* grab Sheryl's earring, didn't he?

We'll find out on Thursday. Previews didn't have her wearing any earrings at all, though.

Depends on what you mean by "Macrossy." The whole series has felt VERY Macrossy to me, this episode no more or less than others. But yeah...stuff going BOOM with pop music playing in the background. That's pretty darn Macrossy.

One would have to agree there. This was definately a truely macrossy action episode.

OT: Wow, I came here to read about other people's opinion on the episode and I find an almost completely hijacked thread, what a shame. Why are you people posting such incredible nonsense in this thread !? what's with the ''Ranka's protution'' talk, can't you see it's just the dress !? How did we end up speculating whether Sheryl or Ranka were transexuals? I mean, Richard Vilra = Breetai ? Rick F***ing Hunter ? WTF is going on here !?

I sound like a total a-hole here, ruining the party and all. Sure, we're free to express ourselves as we like, but it's getting a bit out of hand. I know it's just in the spirit of good comedy (I hope), but it's not just getting stupid, it's also OT. Don't want to argue with anyone, I just wanted express my concern (whine).

whoa, aren't you over-reacting a bit? i doubt anyone of us were serious when we posted transexuals, alien protrusions (although i gotta admit, those vajra sure look like they could be related to the aliens in Alien 1. haha), rick hunter and breetai. we were kidding, i thought it was obvious. :p

but if you already saw them for the sarcasm or fun that was intended, and you call that stupid, well then there's nothing left to say, is there? <_<

"Beam Spamming" in a Macross series.

Hey, at least it's not punching holes in the floor when it walks!

As for the eyecatch...well, there'll always be the DVD version; that should have it.

OR have CLAWS!!! Just like the Macross Zero Monster. <_<

The end of the scene where Sheryl is watching the battle and the start of the battle scene afterward, there's a small Macross Frontier logo at the corners. Between those scenes was where the commercial was, there was no eyecatch this week due to time limits. Notice they used Aimo for the credits as well.

What beam cannons? Those look like gunpod fire to me from Alto's fighter mode. Apart from the head lasers, were there beam cannons on Alto's VF-25?

One would assume if the VF-25 had them, they'd be on the wing roots, the same as the VF-19.

haha. quite vague, but a term that everyone here seems to understand. the whole series is pretty darn Macrossy. and this ep 7 is indeed Macrossy. :)

but i think as far as being Macrossy goes, ep 4 takes the cake. yup, even more than this one, IMO.

ok. my take on the vf27:

so yeah, it could be a NUNS valk. sure looks like the insignia. just found it funny though that NUNS is sure being mysterious about the whole thing, and then VF 27 finally appears, with their frickin logo (if it is) all over the valk. "ok, we still want to be mysterious about this one, it's classified..... but EAT THAT SMS!! we got better shiit than you!"

also funny since the series has built up the NUNS as incompetent, and SMS as the ultimate in mecha tech and pilot efficiency, then all a sudden NUNS is back in the equation big time.

i'm sure someone has already pointed out that leon was quite excited when the vajra baseship (ok, watching too much BSG here) appear -- as if that's what he was waiting for. finally the fracker appeared, and it's finally time to unlease our VF27. It would seem NUNS was merely using SMS as bait to lure an actual vajra mothership into battle, where the VF27 can finally infiltrate it for some important (and probably obsessive) reason. and the one piloting the VF27 just had to be someone who was somehow involved in the massacred research fleet (or at the very least, related to its sole survivor).

Hmmm... leon is starting to look like the head scientist of sharon apple in mac+. why am i suddenly having images of a red target point on the head of President Glass, and Leon on the other end pulling the trigger? ;)

Its not an english sub. Chinese, maybe?

It's Chinese. The Chinese subs have been out and crawling out since Thursday night.

You know you made it all click. For some reason I kept thinking SMS was NUNS. Its not. To date, we have only seen SMS fly the VF-25, not NUNS. Makes sense now that the VF-27 have the NUNS logo...

I snagged a Chinese sub (I think) in RMVB format since that was the only thing I could find initially... aside from Real quite possibly being the worst codec known to man the image was really, really dark and washed out. I need to learn to be more patient next time. That and/or work on my Japanese.

SMS sports the VF-25 and are the only ones according to Ozama. NUN have the VF-171 and if all perdictions are right the VF-27 or at least a PMC with tighter ties with NUN.

OT, sorry, but i just have to say it. COOL AVATAR!!! :)

Yep, the VF-25 has two wing root beam guns and if you slow the video down, you can see Alto using them when he blasts his into the hull of the Vajra carrier.

There is apparently an English sub of ep 7 up on Tokyotosho now from a groupl called POPGO FREEWIND. Never heard of them, but I'm downloading it now.

I noticed that Grace also has a weird pattern on her eyes. Perhaps something to do with her cybernetic implants.

Or maybe, it's jsut the animators drwing her pupils in a stylized way.

A quick word on the supposedly "missing" eyecatch: thus far, the eyecatch has always featured the MacF logo. You see it in this episode when Alto is screaming for Luca, and then again on the subsequent wide shot of Frontier with the concert noises as background...it's possible that a part inbetween is missing, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the eyecatch and they just decided not to do anything radically different as (just guessing) a cost/time-cutting measure.

I think they have spent all the episode fund into mecha action, leaving nothing for the eyecatch :(

or perhaps having an eyecatch would disrupt the mood of this particular episode. IMO, alto screaming in rage in once scene, and then a sudden eyecatch in between, would ruin the natural mood and flow of the episode.

I don't know for sure if it is subbed, as I am still downloading it.

Go to the Tokyoshoto site and enter 'Macross Fronter 07' in the search box. It comes up as the first item in the search results. And it has an "English" icon next to it, instead of a "Raw" icon.

Hmm......finished downloading, it , but can't get it to play with either VLC player or Media Player Classic. Yes, I have CCCP installed, so don't usually have an problems.

Seems to me that the commercials would ruin the mood more than an eyecatch would...

Random musings on episode 7.

I watched the raw of episode 7, 4 times over the weekend, plus spent lots of time viewing the various action scenes in slow motion.

I gotta say, “Wow!” what an episode. Absolutely outstanding action and animation. The story gets carried forward nicely with more twists and questions.

I can’t believe 4 people voted negative in the polls. Well, if this episode doesn’t impress them, nothing will.

Glad to see the regular animation studio (Nara?) back on character art duties.

Heh, I noticed that the electrical arcing is back again during some of the VF-25 transformation sequences (Mikhail’s VF-25).

I’m really loving the ultra-fast transformation capability of the VF-25.

Loved seeing Alto sneaking around in Battroid inside the Vajra Carrier. That was a really tense fight he had against the 2 yellow Vajra inside the carrier. Brilliantly animated and choreographed.

Bobby was awesome, as was the Macross Quarter.

Ozma also kicked some serious ass. As others have mentioned, it was nice to see the beam guns in action on Ozma’s armoured VF-25 and also Alto using the wing root beam guns to blast into the Vajra carrier.

I really want to see some line art of those new Destroids. Definitely a strong Cheyenne resemblance there. Cheyenne II perhaps?

The only minor complaint I have about this episode is that Sheryl’s face really didn’t look like Sheryl when she was doing the last song, wearing the red dress with black (dark blue?) hair. I’m guessing this was supposed to be some sort of Minmay look? Perhaps her face was also altered by hologram technology for this song.

Hope we don’t have to wait too long before the next action episode.

My favorite non-mecha shot from the episode below. :p

Looking at the torrent's comments on tokyotosho, even if you can play it i think you may find its a simplified chinese sub.....

Thought it was great how the VB-6 took several hits in Shuttle mode, but just shrugged them off.

Graham

One would think that they added energy converting armor to the Koenig Monster, and that's how they managed to shave off 2/3 of the weight compared to the MkII while having it still be able to soak damage like a champ.

I think Grace can project visual images with her eyes.

I didn't notice anyone mention the possibility that the glowing in Ranka's dress could've been her Amphibi-cell. She grabs her dress and maybe squeezes the cell. The dress does have pockets....best explanation I could come up with.

She's not human, she's a cyclone  .

I'm surprised to see how durable the VF-25 is when Alto took a beating from the yellow squid Vajra. I believe he took one direct energy cannon shot to the right arm before it took out the head. Too bad they didn't show any PPB on the valk.

Posted

Yeah, this episode showed us that the VF-25 is pretty tough.

Alto's VF-25 had it's right(?) wing tip blown off when he was approaching the Vajra carrier in fighter mode.

Then once inside the carrier, he took the hit to the back, which completely blew off both wings.

Next, IIRC he may have taken some hits to the arm shield (just going by memory), when he was shooting at the first yellow Vajra, resulting in no additional damage.

Then he took the hit to the right arm, which disabled it, but didn't blow it off.

Then he took the hit which completely destroyed the head.

Lastly, after he'd transformed to Gerwalk, the 2nd Yellow Vajra used it's tail spike to destroy the VF-25 Gerwalk.
