Could the stone have a connection to the birdman from Zero??

I don't think its anything that rare. The Vajra use its technology.

super dimensional resonance crystal

crystals discovered in 2043. applying a vibration of a certain wavelength to it causes a dimensional resonance phenomenon. it is said to make possible next generation communication and super dimensional navigation technology.

That would explain the connection between Sheryl at her concert and Alto in his fighter (the earrings), and the stone in the Vajra ship reacting as well.

lol.. oh that's interesting.. looks like they forgot to flip the wing texture over on the VF-171.. the logos are backwards on one side.

As for the backpack... I honestly don't know, but it kind of reminds me of one of the fighters we haven't seen in a series.. maybe the star mirage? Actually... now that I think about it, it looks like one of the advanced valkyrie designs...

here we go, I would swear it's this one, right down to the engine mounted tails and jagged wing shapes.

again for comparison

What I want to know is what these leg markings are. They look like letters, but nothing like English.. to be honest, they remind me of the computer screen text you sometimes see in Star Wars. :p Anyone have any ideas? I didn't see enough of the legs to know what this might be.

Just looks like the typical Japanese futuristic font for random mecha lettering and designs like all the Wave Rider stuff on Gundam a few years ago.

New United Nations Spacy

No, it's the Neo United Nations Space Agency

I'm not a big fan of NUNS or the NUNS logo. It's kind of strange and not very iconic. A Macross series needs the UN SPACY kite.

It's like Transformers with autobotg203_transformers.jpg instead of autobot04_transformers.jpg

Which won't work is they are going to try to market this series internationally.

Is that the whole reason? Because of those Harmony Gold bastards again?

I'd put money on it. The NUNS insignia and the fact that its named "VF-27" makes it pretty clear to me.

I am thinking more Anti-NUNS myself.

:mellow: So that means that with that logo, they will not be able to market it internationally?

I see still big legal problems if they try to market Frontier as they still show Giant Space Fortress that transforms and planes that change between three modes.

As long as it isn't the SDF-1, VF-4, and VF-1, it's perfectly fine. Macross isn't the only series with transformable fighter planes or spaceship. You can copyright a design, but not a concept. The VF-1 and SDF-1 are designs. Three-mode transformable fighter planes and transforming spaceships are concepts.

But Big West owns the designs...if they wanted to throw in a VF-1S in Roy Focker colors, the Macross, or even Minmay not looking a day over 16, they could. Harmony Gold has the rights to the Macross name, and the animation of the original show, but not the designs...right?

Yes, they could, but I bet that those guys at HG would throw a fit and try to do some legal action. They would lose, but the battle would be long and tiresome, and in the meanwhile, all the freshness of Macross Frontier (which might be renamed Frontier or something because HG does own the trademark here, IIRC) would pass, which I guess wouldn't be good for sales.

Posted

and don't forget the cost, anyone wanting to bring Macross Frontier internationally would have to put even more money to clear any legal disputes, but anything is possible after all they were able to clear it for Macross Plus video release.

Great work AlphaHX I've been waiting for someone to post a screen shot of that. Merci!

No problem, let me know if theres any other pictures or screen shots that you'll like me to post. :)

interesting. please tell what's the connection between Birla and Indian/hindu names?

It's an Indian name, that's all.

Isnt' that just because she have two nickenames? ginga no utahime and ginga no yousei

I'm fairly sure her nickname is just "Ginga no Yousei." She's referred to as an utahime (Songstress) though by Nanase, I believe. It's an interesting bit though. The Japanese have a tendency to say a word one way but mean a different thing when they write it. I can't cite any examples off the top of my head but it's an occurrence you'll see in manga more often than anime.

Anyway, there's some odd tech in this episode. I'm not quite sure as to what it does or how to properly translate the name, heh. Leave it to the Japanese to make up some crazy stuff as always.

Also, gotta love the Japanese penchant for saying things that are a bit aimless or can be misinterpreted. Ozma's line to Alto in this episode before they engage is amusing in that regard.

IIRC, no one had to clear Plus (or II, for that matter) with HG...according to HG themselves, "no one was minding the store" (i.e.: "We had no idea how much money we could theoretically make by acting like little b!tches").

I really wish (as I think all of us do) that Bandai would take the bait and get HG into court. Put all of that hard-earned Gundam money to good use!

Yeah, but if they used the old UN Spacy logo in this series you would have morons posting footage of it on youtube and in other places claiming that it was NEW ROBOTECH and playing the robotech theme over the top. That sort of annoying crap does go on.

With the rights issues for Macross in dispute in the U.S. (No, I am not trying to open THAT can of worms), at least this series has a better chance of release in the U.S.

EDIT: Sorry, you can tell that I wrote this without checking the following posts that had already stated this.

I wonder how the Destroid Monster design would fit into that. (I know what is in Frontier is not really a Destroid Monster, but still, if they wanted to be annoying.)

I rather liked Ozma's line.

But it sounds so pervy if you're translating it straight.

Oh and I figured out what that darn technology does that I was having problems with. >=O

I don't imagine we'll see any Protoculture in this series. Hell, the Vajra could have been left behind to defend something that is no longer there, an automated defense system that was never turned off.

I believe so. But I'm convinced they're after the pink crystals... not the people. That's why they got Luca... because of the device in his VF. I bet Ranka has some crystal implanted in her belly too... that's why it protruded & started to glow...

Is the shiny thing on the left hand of Luca's VF the crystal lens thingy? Supposedly used to control ghosts? I wondered why the camera zoomed into it as if its a point of focus for Alto.

I still have no idea what Alto and gang studies in the school. What is their curriculum? Are everyone from the school potential fighter pilots, or is it a normal school with many vocations like Zentraedi farming?

That theory makes the most sense to me so far. But they didn't go after Alto actively and he had sharons earring.

I just presumed they had an old senile teacher that lecutre them on the history of the Third Impact Space War 1 over and over again.

Given that Army Warrant Officer Aviatiors can go right from High School to Flight School, I'd imagine that Mihoshi Academy education is the basic high school math and science and instead of arts and literature, they recieve vocational courses that are the same as military aviators (meteorology, aerodynamics, IFR, ICAO regulations, etc.)

I think not everyone in the school is military bound, because in the next episode isn't Ranka a transfer student for the performing arts?

Edit: Speaking of Zentraedi Farmers. Has anybody else wondered what a hippocow burger with hippowcow cheese would taste like? I bet it's as delicious as it is cute.

Zero-Raws just uploaded the 1080 version. Hopefully, we can get better caps of the logos with the new file. Time to download yet another one before the subs come out. :p

Apparentely it's 1 part semi-military training and another part...ENTERTAINMENT SCHOOL??? (Ranka will be joining next episode).

no no, you guys got all wrong, remember Macross F is all about private companies

the VF-27 and Ranka's bag is sponsored by Vodafone

vodafone_logo.jpg

Except Vodafone Japan doesn't exist under that brand anymore so that wouldn't make much sense.

It's Softbank now.
