darkrealmbahamut Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Unfortunately I haven't spoken Japanese since I lived there 3 years ago. Now it's all out the window. I'd rather watch it and have an understanding of what is going on. But right now I could be watching Mecha pr0n!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! It is mighty tastey Mecha pr0n at that. I know how you feel my Japanese is draining away. Quote
Chronocidal Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 (edited) Huh... while the NUNS logo looks clear as day on the underside of the wing in that shot... the nose logo reminds me of something else. Back in previous episodes, wasn't there some sort of blue logo that looks roughly like a planet with rings, or something like that? I'll search for it, but I'm sure I've seen it somewhere... Edit: Meh, found the original pic I had, but after seeing it, it's not quite like the logo on the nose after all. Besides, it's a Frontier logo, so it doesn't fit. It's the one with a small yellow ufo shaped center, surrounded by blue and green swirls. Now, whether the other colonization fleets had similar logos is anyone's guess. I do think that there's some sort of conspiracy brewing though.. as vague as everything is, the ship certainly does have a NUNS logo on the wing. They behave extremely alien (way the ships fly and all)... but unless the logo is a pure animation snafu, there has to be a connection. I wonder if someone behind the scenes is pulling strings to set up a confrontation between NUNS and SMS... or between humans and the vajra, or trying to find links to the protoculture, etc. We just need more info at this point. cyde01 Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 krespy, glad to here that you're okay. my heart goes out to all the earthquake victims who suffered thru so much. now back to the ep: holy shart!!!!!! SMS molested the vajra like little altar boys!!!!! and protoculture = newtype? maybe ranka swallowed one of those purple stones when she was little? her bulge appears to shine just like the earrings? dunno if this has been discussed yet but vajra appear to have superior technology according to luca's reconnaissance. their ships have the ability to fold thru fold barriers like they're not even there, and they have something called a "fold reactor." Final Vegeta Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 The destroids on the Quarter look very much like the Cheyenne from M0. Nice! Well, even the Destroid Work (Workroid?) looked like the Cheyenne. It was to be expected Macross Cannon's activation has the Japanese characters flashing across the screen....lol....gave me Aquarion vibes, especially when Bobby was the one firing it GAR-Gay-ly. Finally, one that notices the Aquarion reference In 2chan (or was 2ch?) they understood it immediately. By the way, in Aquarion there was a "PSG Quantum Reaction Cannon" Mysterious enemy (old fugly man & Brera Sterne) seem not to be alien but splinter from NUNs or something. Let the conspiracy begin. Well, just looking at the design, you could notice it is purple (color of enemies in Macross), has feet split in three parts (for Kawamori this is sign of evil alignment) and Brera looks like a "former friend" Kawamori type of character (Guld, Folken, Toma). One thing to notice is how big the mouth of the barrel of VF-27's gunpod is. It must be either a railgun or a beamgun. Also appears to be able to fold on its own, unless is using Macross Quarter's fold bubble (as described in ep. 06. Fold bubble is the reason why when the SDF-1 first folded South Ataria City was folded too. This is why Valkyries on the flight deck won't have any troubles). The cockpit could be either holograms or BDS/BDI type of control, maybe with the help of implants; also the hairpin could be a part of the control system, maybe allowing to control the VF-27 from afar. It is surprising how a new Valkyrie can still look this technologically advanced, even after all we've seen. FV Quote
chrono Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 This episode gave me some speculative ideas about Frontier's storyline... Considering the opening GITS-like cyberization, I think Brera is a "Special Forces" character let loose against the NUNS colonial ships. He is "special" in the same way as Sharon Apple was, for military and political purposes by whoever is really behind the Vajra. Also, he was really just observing instead of fighting the Vajra like the SMS crew were doing. He even shot Alto's (well, Luca's) mech! I'm rethinking now if the Vajra are really Protoculture or just a man-made experiment by a rebel group against the UNS and/or NUNS . The "cat" is just to far outta the bag for the AUN to play much of a part anymore. It IS beginning to look like the 117th Fleet was doing Bioweapon research and a powermonger from the old AUN, the Vajra carrier has hints of VF-X design in it, got a hold of it. Quote
McTaffy007 Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 (edited) Episode was ok-ish, but not my favourite one. Maybe I set my expectations for it a little high and expected too much Anywho, a couple things I've noticed up until now: 1) Sheryl said she's never seen her mom, but she got a really cool pair of earrings from her though. We've already seen from previous episodes that SK and the others are really trying to tie this series with all previous Macross stories, so it's not that big a stretch if we assumed her mom was none other than the younger Nome sister (/can't remember her name) or descendent of hers. Why would I say that? -Firstly, her surname (ok, the obvious). That and she speaks French just like the Nomes did. -Secondly, the stones on the earrings that also seem to tie in with the stones on Brera's hair pin and on Birla's ring (/the similiarity between them has to be there for some reason). Most of everything on the island in M-Zero seemed to be protoculture in origin especially the floating boulders. These could have been the same boulders that were cut, polished and turned into jewellry for the Nome girl who eventually passed them onto her daughter before disappearing for one reason or another. 2) There is no way Ranka is human or part Meltran. Impossible. I could never accept it. Not now and definately not when Kawamori himself proves me wrong. Why? -The freakish red eyes: Ok, fine we'll put that down as anime physics (/any colour of the rainbow could be your hair and eye colour). -The short stature and lack of mammaries: Space babies probably don't need to be fed much, but we could always say this was just a case of delayed puberty. -The secret Ozma makes her keep: Who know's, maybe Ozma has a thing for the GAR-ish Bobby Margot. Who wouldn't after that display of uber-manliness that sent mine pining into a corner. -The moving hair: Okaaay...SK tried to explain that away although I'm not a believer (/calling his bluff). -All the freaky-dicky stuff that's going on when she sings, screams, shows up; along with all the attention the Vajra seem to be showing her: ...fine, I'll put that down to a mega-combo of bad luck, lousy timing and coincidence. -The glowing tummy, Sheryl's earrings and the, um, bulge down under: .... honestly now. She's protoculture or something we've never seen before. Maybe she's a Vajra hatchling or something and she's keeping a second pair of arms down there. 3) Brera is definately whatever Ranka is. The song, the pin, the harmonica....nuff said. Same goes for Birla. Maybe I'm trying to pick fish with rice paper, but methinks there's a reason for these small details. Final Vegeta Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Also two more things to say: 1) While the Macross Quarter is around 400 m long, a lot of this length come from a Macross Cannon and a flight deck. In Storm Attacker mode the height is probably less than 300 m due to a short torso. To give an example, we are probably the size of a Gunbuster. 2) In the first chapter of the manga, when VF-171s' leader gave her squadron the order to attack with missiles, in kanji there was something I don't remember, but in katakana (the katakana for those who can't read kanji) there was written Planet Dance. Mark Nguyen Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Mao Nome was 11 in 2008-2009. Sheryl is 17 in 2059. Thus, *IF* Mao was her mother, she would have been 41-42 in 2042 when she gave birth to Sheryl. Mothers that old are not uncommon these days... Of course, Mao would have somehow survived the Zentradi assault on Earth despite being a simple civilian. One wonders where she, and all the other Islanders, were when that all happened... Would the big beams o' death missed their tiny island home? How did Mao end up on Macross Galaxy, if Sheryl was born there? Where is she now, and if she wasn't on Galaxy, how did Sheryl end up there? Mark Quote
taksraven Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Seems to me cybernetics could really perfect the technology. Yes. Both of these guys agree with you. Taksraven  Quote
Duke Togo Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 2) There is no way Ranka is human or part Meltran. Impossible. Except she's stated that she's 1/4 (oooh, another 25 reference!) Zentradi, and Kawamori said she was in an interview. Quote
Morpheus Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 No one has mentioned this yet... they're not fighting where the Galaxy is. They are fighting where the two ships from the Galaxy fleet de-folded to (where the scouts had deployed a Relay Pod). Next episode looks like its back to life aboard the Frontier, but I am wondering WTF happened to the Galaxy and the rest of its fleet. The task force only cover what like the remain of Galaxy vanguard fleet. About the newtype thingy, I think this is whats going on between them: They are both newtype lol j/k. Ranka keep saying "she knows, yet...". This means that Sheryl knows that Alto is fighting in the Galaxy crisis and yet she try her best to keep singing (remember Ranka know Alto and Ozma left after the phone from Ozma). She also know the real reason why Sheryl cry in the first place. Ranka is amazed by this especially she know the burden of it (having her brother and Alto in the same situation). Sheryl then ask the audience (Ranka) to join the singing to encourade those who risk their life in the front. Quote
taksraven Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Well during the concerts, yes. But her chest was noticibly bigger in Star Date when she "hid" Alto's access card. If it is possible to have variable fighters, maybe, as was pointed out earlier, a person could have variable breasts?? Taksraven Quote
Duke Togo Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 The task force only cover what like the remain of Galaxy vanguard fleet. But we don't know that's all that remains. From what I saw, the NUNS scouts were setting up relay pods, they were not expecting those two ships to fold out on their location. Quarter and Co. did not go all the way to the Galaxy fleet, they went to were those two ships de-folded. Quote
darkrealmbahamut Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 2) There is no way Ranka is human or part Meltran. Impossible. As Duke said she is confirmed as a quater Meltran. It is the other 75 percent we don't know about and until we know more about Brera we can just assume he knows her song. For all we know he is another survivor from her colony. Quote
taksraven Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Yeah, they look alike. I just don't like the 'ear' type antennas on the sides of the VF-27's head. The "ear" antennas make the VF-27's head look a bit like this. Taksraven Quote

Not sure you can call it a colony, they were a research fleet. What were they researching, and what are a bunch of the survivors doing on the Frontier? Harmonica is flying in what seems to be a NUNS fighter (the VF-27). There is something going on behind the scenes that I don't think they've given us a glimpse of yet. Quote

Duke Togo Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 If I had any complaint, it would be with the Quarter. I prefer my space battleships to be standing off and launching volleys, not flying in like some super robot and firing a gun. But its a minor thing, doesn't affect my enjoyment of the show. Quote

TehPW Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Ok, i wet myself... Now to await some sub's on youtube... -The VF-27 is most definately a foe, most certainly Varja or aligned with the Varja. When Alto lifted Luca's arm, in turn making his Valkyrie fire rounds to free itself, the VF-27's reaction (disarming the EVF-25's gunpod) was extremely meant to keep them contained and handled (the continued keeping aim on a clearly defencely opponent shows Hostile Intent). Now the why it left once the Varja carrier opened it's mouth to fire? perhaps he (the VF-27 Pilot) guessed that the battle was lost... Certainly Alto will take personally any grudge matchs in the future. my two cents? The pilot of the VF-27 is a descendant of Shin Kudo (Didn't he play a instrument in zero?), maybe Varja and clearly a foe of the human/zentran races... with a thing for hot pants and idol singers... More mecha porn plz? Quote
UN Spacy Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Was Luca's RVF-25 in the same section where the carrier fired it's beam weapon from? Quote
StrangeWill Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 (edited) Well here is an idea why the Kaitos was a different color... when the Macross Quarter hides behind an asteroid and the asteroid explodes, it comes out with the same greenish glow/electrical effect to it, obviously something that close to you exploding would cause quite some damage... possibly an all-out last ditch effort defense barrier? (Obviously didn't work for Kaitos on a direct hit). Obviously under heavy attack and being under the damage it was (IIRC It was really badly messed up), Kaitos would go full-defensive and depend on the backup to get it out of the mess.
