boyarque Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Welcome to Macrossworld. I'm malaysian too. Hope you came to the Macross Convention in KL earlier this year. hi! I did...I'm at the last stall, the one with yf-19, ivanov, and 1/60 vf-1d. Quote
wolfx Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Oh okay. That table has alot of people. I was running the PS2 competition mostly. I think if we held the con later in the year, we can get more Macross cosplayers and fans. Oh well. XD Quote
d3v Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 I love it, after being burned out on watching anime (other than what's occasionally shown on Animax), and especially on mecha anime after having been such a hardcore fan, Macross Frontier has brought me back! Quote
Vifam7 Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 I like it. So far. Pros: -The characters of likeable. (a HUGE improvement over the past few SK works) -The homages to the original series. -No annoying angst-ridden depressed brats. -The VF-25 Cons: -The on again off again animation quality. Particularly the chara designs. Another nod to the original series? -The overuse of computer generated crap. Some of the scenes are too dark or too fast to see and appreciate what's happening. Fears: -That it'll get overly convoluted trying to mish-mash elements from M0 and M7. -SK steadily infusing another social-enviromental "message". Quote

Some anime takes the emotional development too seriously that it borders on being just plain silly! Quote
Project Phoenix Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Better not be some tree-hugging, kumbaya-singing ending by Episode 26. If I want to do that, I'd watch Arjuna. Quote

Graham Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 or....it could be the SMS pilots feasting on the Vajra flesh ....nah, that's just me... Well, it's not for nothing that we commonly refer to them as Lobsters around here. It's obvious why Ozma licked his lips after knifing the red Vajra. He was loooking forward to some nice juicy lobster flesh for dinner. Graham Quote
boyarque Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 hmmm....space-fishing for alien lobsters with giant humanoid mecha? Holly crap! This could be the whole theme behind Macross Frontier... seriously though, I'm still wondering why does Ozma does that while knifing a Vajra? I think the story will unfold more mysteries as the episodes roll on... Quote

You guys read into things too much and are blind to more important things. Like dodgy animation. *hides* Quote
Graham Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 What dodgy animation? I don't see no steenkin' dodgy animation. Especially in this thread (thinly veiled warning). Graham Quote
ma2ha3 Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 The Best anime at the moment. Once, the anime finished, then i might say this is the best sci fi anime ever, but got to finish it. From now to end, a lot of things can be screw up. Quote

There's nothing I can complain about, and this seems to be the series we've all been waiting for for a loooooong time. Quote
Gubaba Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Pretty damned good, so far. Agreed. The writers have definitely shown that they can handle characters, plot pacing, AND action...all extremely well. Quote
505thAirborne Posted May 25, 2008 Author Posted May 25, 2008 Ok, just curious... who is the mysterious guy in episode 7 & 8 flying what looks like to me a cross between a YF-19 and SV-51??? And how did Renka seem to recognize him? Any body have some thoughts on that, because I am lost/really curious. Quote

We've covered the ground on Brera pretty thoroughly (or at least, as thoroughly as we can for a character who's had about three scenes and one line of dialogue...) Quote
aerocombatpilot Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 This series "just" about makes up for the Macross 7 nightmare. Now, all we need is a two hour movie explaining what happened to Misa, Hikaru, Minmay and "the circle will be complete!" Quote

VFTF1 Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Sometimes when I read Gubaba's posts, I feel as though my life has no purpose since he's around to say the things that otherwise I would have to say - and he knows Japanese Better not be some tree-hugging, kumbaya-singing ending by Episode 26. If I want to do that, I'd watch Arjuna. Dude...which Macross story DIDN'T end with the power of love and song overcoming all? If you want a dark and gritty finale, you're probably better off rewatching Ideon... Here, I would point out that most Macross endings have actually not been this easy to stereotype. Observe... SDF M TV: Kamjin and Lamplitz are killed (sad, since they were not totally evil buggers; even Kamjin). Tons of people on the Macross are killed (also sad). Hikaru and Minmey's budding romance and love ultimately FAILS. Even if you prefer Misa (which I do), try for a moment looking at it from Hikaru's point of view. Hikaru honest to gosh loved Minmey - I truly believe that. I think his love was misplaced and that Minmey was - as Roy said - the fickle type and not worthy of such pure and beautiful love as a noble guy like Hikaru could give (Misa on the other hand is the perfect woman for him) - but nonetheless; everyone can be turned - and it is tragic that Minmey, whose songs were able to turn an entire race away from war and to love...looses Hikaru at the end as is herself not able to be happy and in love. Not a happy ending. DYRL: Pretty much the same as above. Cut Minmey some slack. She does not have a "happy ending." Macross Plus: Guld dies after realizing that he raped Myung and that his friends loved him so much that they were even covering up psychologically for him. Myung's life - already shattered when she quit singing and sold out to become a corporate stooge goes completely down the drain as it turns out that she's been helping a creepy guy gain power over the Macross. Itsamu saves Myung - sure - but at what cost. Not a happy ending. Macross 7: I've said it once I'll say it a million times: Transvestitus might have started singing, but he still possessed the body of Advisor Herman; Giggly is dead, and hundreds probably died in that massive last battle.... Not a happy ending. Macross Zero: Sara is swallowed up by an alien monster, Shin crashes into the sea and dies, and the only solace we have is that maybe they go to heaven and the stars together. Meanwhile the Earth is still caught in the grips of a horrible civil war, and the entire beautiful culture of the Mayan people along with hundreds of innocent women and children is annihilated. Not a happy ending. VFTF1 Quote

Not a happy ending. DYRL: Pretty much the same as above. Cut Minmey some slack. She does not have a "happy ending." She's circling the black hole with Misa and Hikaru now, isn't she? That's... kind of happy... in a way... One thing I kind of loved and hated about DYRL was how Hikaru/Misa and Hikaru/Minmay played out, respectively. Somehow Hikaru/Minmay in DYRL just seemed really hollow. Mostly going by the TV show, though, I think it was a genuine ending... no matter how much love there was between them (and 'budding' was kind of a stretch by episode 34) it just... wasn't meant to be. Macross 7: I've said it once I'll say it a million times: Transvestitus might have started singing, but he still possessed the body of Advisor Herman; Giggly is dead, and hundreds probably died in that massive last battle.... Not a happy ending. FLY AWAY-FLY AWAY nobotte yukou TRY AGAIN-TRY AGAIN kinou ni te wo futte FLY AWAY-FLY AWAY shinjiru kagiri TRY AGAIN-TRY AGAIN ashita wo aiseru sa ...I think that pretty much sums it up. Sara is swallowed up by an alien monster, Shin crashes into the sea and dies, and the only solace we have is that maybe they go to heaven and the stars together. Meanwhile the Earth is still caught in the grips of a horrible civil war, and the entire beautiful culture of the Mayan people along with hundreds of innocent women and children is annihilated. I know alot of people hate Zero, but something about it just stuck with me and makes me want to watch it again (waiting for the Bluray though). Definitely tragic, and metaphorical, but really beautiful at the same time (and not just the mecha porn... although it helps). Quote
Roy Focker Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 It feels like Macross only because a lot of episodes are nods to previous ones. Still seems like it is modern anime designed to appeal to modern tastes. I hope there is good story under all the fan service (for the girls and boys, and Mecha porn addicts). It also gives me a Southern Cross Vibe. In that I mean there is no character that I'm really routing for. In the Southern Cross there was female leads and male characters in the supporting roles. As a kid I didn't want to play a girl character. Bowie & Louie aren't manly role models. With Frontier it is sorta the same way. Quote
Wes Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 He just can't handle strong women. Or maybe batshit crazy ones. Quote
Duymon Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 I think the series is ok so far. As for what Roy Fokker is saying about it not feeling Macross... in my opinion, nothing has felt like Macross since DYRL. The only thing that I don't like is the super over-the-top comical anime stupidity that seeps its way into the anime. Like..say.. almost anything to do with Ranka or Bobby Margot. Also I didn't like how when they fire the Macross Frontier Cannon into the Battleship in Ep 7, you have that funny Kanji spiritual crap show up on Bobby's Targeting Screen like it's supposed to be all cool and shiz or something. Honestly, that kinda stuff really detracts from the awesome battle taking place. However, it seems like a lot of us here are old farts that favor the old Macross Formula and a lot of us will just have to accept the new direction they are going eventually. Well... most of us prolly won't give a shiz when Bandai releases all the new toys Quote

For me, I think Macross Zero was a great series and has helped set the tone for Frontier. Quote

Ending with the power of love and song overcoming destruction. Quote
