Graham Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Alto's VF-25 with Super Packs is shown firing micro missiles in the opening animation. The wing mounted Super packs appear to have two micro-missiles ports on the outer sides of the pack (near the front) and one micro-missile port on the top of the pack. Graham
Fade Rathnik Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 I'm starting to wonder if the VF-25 super isn't packing more missiles in the pop up shoulder thingys(yes that is a technical term) Kinda like the armored but less missiles. That would give the VF-25 the volley of missiles that we see in the opener that I have a hard time assigning to the launchers on the wings. Of course it is the opener after all.
taksraven Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 If the "carrier" arm of the Macross Quarter can disconnect from the main body of the ship, is it a ship in its own right? I wonder if it can function by itself and if it has its own name. Might be the same deal for the other arm of the ship too. Just wondering. Taksraven

Taksraven I think its just a big slab of metal piece complete with hangars and elevators. I wonder if the VF-25s are stored there or somewhere else. If it can function on its own (like Promotheus) then it lack the bridge structure. Anyway we'll find out when they release an official stat or lineart.
Graham Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Either that or they are standard missiles from the VF-25 itself, but again, no one really knows where Messiah is hiding its missiles. See the attached pics for what I think are the probable micro-missile launcher ports in the Super Packs. Note, 3 ports per pack. Graham

Graham Makes sense to me seeing as the classic VF-1 FAST packs also had similar micro-missile ports. As for Luca's, he is using a different pack and the number of ports could have been sacrificed to add the superdimentional crystal thing.
Kronnang Dunn Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) As for Luca's, he is using a different pack and the number of ports could have been sacrificed to add the superdimentional crystal thing. Speaking of which... I bet those pink crystals are the reason for the Vajra attacks. Maybe they are harvesting the crystals to keep any race from using them to conquer the galaxy, since apparently it could improve fold travel a lot... The Protoculture (or some sentient creations of theirs) must be controlling the Vajra... Maybe the 117th Long Distance Research Fleet was experimenting with those crystals... the whole "fold dislocation" cover story must have been a proper cover up for the Vajra attack. Ranka must be a cyborg created from those experiments... Perhaps she even has a fold reactor inside her... (which could explain her belly "glow"). Edited May 21, 2008 by Kronnang Dunn

Well, it already had been stated by Ozma that the fold dislocation accident was a cover up for the Vajra attack.

Mark Nguyen Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 So in the opening sequence, Alto's super-packed 25 launches a spread of ten missiles. Two each come from the back-mounted packs, but the other six apparently launch from the leg packs. Thoughts? Mark
Radd Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) She also has a "fold reactor shaped" protrusion during that scene. Er....you guys are joking about that right? C'mon, seriously, tell me you're joking. If not, do me a favour, put on a loose fitting shirt, place your hands against it, and push up to see what happens. Ork_dreadnought Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) A good episode, the scences at the concert were important as set up, but were a bit at odds with the action. I'm still a little bit worried with the progression of the series though. With respects to the Love Triangle, Ranka just seems to be getting hurt thanks to her own immaturity, as its increasingly looking like a crush on her part. Sheyl and Alto actually seem to have chemistry. I'm not really keen on how the Vajra are still simple monsters. Yes, its still early days, so maybe I'm worrying unnessecarily. info600 Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 See the attached pics for what I think are the probable micro-missile launcher ports in the Super Packs. Note, 3 ports per pack. Graham i think there's more missles stored in the legs...iirc it's around ep.1, when william fired on the red vajua inside island 1 to save alto...(no equipment to ss that...and too lazy )
Master Dex Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 I think people are forgetting the super packs have the same 'shoulder pieces' that the armor pack does, and on the armor pack those carry micro missiles. I think it is safe to assume the ones on the super do too, but maybe less than the armor. I think the same goes for the chest piece. In my opinion I don't think the leg armor from the super pack has any more additional missiles like the armor pack clearly does. I think Graham's theory on the missile ports in the super pack boosters makes some sense, so I can believe some are there. However there is another thing to think about, the VF-25 can have missiles that aren't from the super pack. Although we haven't seen or have any idea where the VF-25 is storing it's missiles (apart from some theories) when it has no pack on, I believe is must have some somewhere (probably small missiles though).

Well this is the Mecha/Technology thread, but anyway...... Yes, I think a lot of Ranka's problems stem from her youth and immaturity. I think that so far Alto only really sees her as a kid and not a serious love interest, but then again I have been calling Ranka jailbait all along. I think that the best comparison for the Vajra would be hunting beasts in nature. They attack and fight because it is part of their instinct, whether they want too or not. (You watch a domesticated cat when it see's a bird. Even with thousands of years of breeding as a pet behind it, it will still try to get the bird, it just can't help itself, pure instinct) Taksraven

s001 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Hey something more interesting than all that magical crap. I just noticed that the VF-25 doesn't have anything like a 'backpack'
Master Dex Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) Well the back piece and wings are sort of like a backpack. There is definetly some type of booster in there because you can see exaust from that area in gerwalk in episode 2 after Alto saves Ranka (the shot that infamously shows the VF-25 with arms after they were blown off). The346L3 Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I thought the VB-6 Konig Monster was awsome, anything with big guns is cool When I was watching episode 7 though I thought it was strange that it had to land on the ship to fire its guns. Whats stopping it from transforming and firing from space? The recoil from the guns sure made a mess of the ships hull (hate to have to be the one to fix that )
Master Dex Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 If you think the recoil hurt the ship, if it fired just floating in space it would have been launched back quite violently. I don't think the KM has the thruster power to stay stationary in space while firing all that, enough to move in space of course, but that is a lot of reactionary force to overcome.
Mr March Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 (edited) The primary motivation behind the VB-6 sequence in Macross Frontier is to act as a visual cue for the audience, making them aware how big and heavy this massive Konig Monster is compared to the smaller and lighter mecha in the rest of the show. No better way to get that message across than to rend the hull of a battleship with the massive recoil of the Konig's four big guns Edited May 23, 2008 by Mr March
Major Focker Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 i'm a big fan of the monster and its big guns, and the KM definitely put up a good show in ep7. i have to wonder though at the logic of portraying the KM as having more firepower than an escort ship (the Dulfim seems to be at least destroyer-class) as is implied when: - the Dulfim seems to have been defending itself poorly and the KM almost single-handedly bailed them out - Dulfim crew were asked to brace for the shockwave, implying they themselves don't have any armaments of the KMs caliber so one has to wonder why escort ships wouldn't pack the same or bigger guns than a KM, and more of them. could it be that: - the Dulfim does have big guns but were disabled/destroyed in prolonged combat by the time the KM arrived - escort ships do pack big guns and use them but don't get much airtime in ground-based tactical assault scenarios, the KM makes sense. they can project a lot of firepower where the big ships can't get too or perhaps would be overkill. in realworld military, KMs would be the equivalent of a combined artillery and MLRS unit for when the engagement is too far inland for naval bombardment to reach or when the situation is fluid and requires a tactical approach. but in a space battle, i would expect the big ships to have the biggest guns in play. for that matter, why have cheyenne/tomahawk destroids on deck (in foxholes) and exposing human lives, when one could have battery emplacements operated from below deck under better armor? i'm not ranting here, just genuinely curious as to the logic of these things in the macross setting.
d3v Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Well the back piece and wings are sort of like a backpack. There is definetly some type of booster in there because you can see exaust from that area in gerwalk in episode 2 after Alto saves Ranka (the shot that infamously shows the VF-25 with arms after they were blown off). I think by now we've noticed the trend for the latest VFs where their wings no longer stow away neatly at the back (with the exception of the VF-19) and instead now protrude from the back. For the VF-25, this seems to be to allows its super packs which are now mounted alongside the fuselage (similar to how the VF-4s engines/arms/legs were mounted) to be behind it in battroid mode, ditto for the "VF-27" but this time for the 2 extra engine on the wings (which I suspect also house its internal fold boosters).

I think I found them. Inside the wing-roots just behind the tailfins. Pretty well hidden (if I'm right of course) and very small BTW. Well, I can breathe well now Mr. Macross never screw up!

Well, I can breathe well now Mr. Macross never screw up! Good, I was actually wondering where in that area the booster is, that makes sense, I'll go back and check it out sometime. I knew it was there of course as I've said, I just didn't know where exactly. Your right that is kind of small, but then again none of the 'backpack' areas have really had large engines or anything (excluding fast pack usage).
