Zinjo Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 (edited) In the prologue of M-Frontier and M-Galaxy's route both of them have New Macross Class Aircraft Carrier designation. If you notice the icon is identical to Frontier's. The Galaxy isn't a NM City Ship like Frontier, it is much different. I suspect it was done this way to hide Galaxy's true appearance from the viewer early on so we'd assume the ships were the same until it's actual appearance was revealed. That doesn't make much sense, though. The fact that Galaxy was a chemical plant colony as opposed to a bio-plant colony was revealed in episode 5. And the shape of the colony ship was revealed in episode 6. You could argue that the chemical plant information was important in episode 15, but that's a full ten episodes after it was revealed. In short, there doesn't seem to have been any reason to hide that Galaxy was different.

It's probably that the fact that Galaxy was different was meant to be a slow reveal with little bits pointing to it being different until we saw it. They probably then didn't want to clue us in to that when they showed the paths of all the ships.
RedWolf Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Saw this guy where the new Battle 7 is being constructed in Dynamite 7. What is it called? Looks like a Battroid. In Frontier there is the Destroid Work.
sketchley Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Different mechanical designers, different robots. Don't forget the destroids that were converted into work mecha in M7. I'm waiting for a canon explanation as to why the Cheyenne disappeard from Macross for the duration of SDF:M, DYRL, M+, M7, M7 Dynamite, VF-X, and VF-X2, and makes a reappearance as the Cheyenne II in Macross F. So far, I only have the start of a theory:SMS being a military contractor trying out non-UN (or non-NUN) gear...

d3v Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 It looks like all it is a modified VF-1. Agreed, possibly a VF-1D or VT-1C (that seems to be a 2-seat cockpit) modified for construction work.
junior Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 It's probably that the fact that Galaxy was different was meant to be a slow reveal with little bits pointing to it being different until we saw it. They probably then didn't want to clue us in to that when they showed the paths of all the ships. But my primary point is, "So what?" What difference does it make to our plot expectations that we don't know until episode 6 that Galaxy is different from Frontier? Kawamori and company trying to deceive viewers about the nature of the Macross Galaxy fleet until the "big reveal" in episode 6 makes no sense because the viewer doesn't even know that there's anything to hide until episode 7 (i.e. when Brera shows up). After episode 15, we know that every fleet is at least a little bit different. Frontier, for instance, is unusual in that it completely bans implants (though it's apparently not unique in doing so). Intentionally concealing elements of Galaxy from viewers doesn't seem to serve any purpose.
sketchley Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I always felt that the episode 6 reveal of different types of ship for the Galaxy Fleet was more for the viewer of preceeding Macross series. In that we see all the ships from M7 in the Frontier fleet, plus a few new ones, and feel that MF is a continuation of the preceeding series. The new ship designs being spawned from a different fleet mentality, etc.. Now, half (?) the series in, I feel that the different type of ships are our clue that the Galaxy Fleet will become the primary opponents of the heroes of the series. Perhaps that is why they did the slow reveal?
Mr March Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 The design of the Macross Galaxy is likely just a way to distinguish it from the Macross Frontier fleet. It's a radically different design, different color and even the escort ships are orange. It's just a visual cue, much in the same way Kawamori wanted the VF-171 as the cannon fodder fighter so it was very distinguishable from the VF-25 hero fighter.
