Zinjo Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I am loving how perverted the high school characters are, very true to life... The fact that it continues into the dirty old man bit is sooo, Japanese... Looking at how they tend to entertain themselves with lolicon and all that junk, I'm not at all surprised... Quote

Great, that's gonna cause a fuss with some posters here. But not me. Quote
Duke Togo Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Every series has their low budget episodes. Don't worry so much. I just, I was really put off by this episode. I'll watch it again when the sub comes out but, yeah... that was really disappointing. Quote
Holocause Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 The big red ship from my understanding IS Macross Galaxy. It seems they came out of fold with a couple of Vajra hitchhickers stuck on them. Yeah animation was a bit of a let down. What's disappointing is it looks to have been animated by KMUManila, my kababayans and pinoys. 1 part of me is glad Filipinos had a part in making this series but the other is disappointed at the quality they produced. *sigh*. Over all the episode was a bit of a drag with nothing much really happening in the first part. The last 5 or so mins made it up though with the concert extended song and launch scene. Looks like the next episode will be something though. Finally some large scale action with VF's, VB-6's and Q-Rau's. Again Sheryl's character development is going along nicely. I'm getting this vibe that she's really loyal to Galaxy. It was rubbing off that she really was empathizing with what's going on with her fleet-mates but was keeping a strong appearance for them, really seemed like she was doing that concert for them. LOL though for the Fashion Show Mall, Las Vegas architecture in that coffee scene. Quote

Duke Togo Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 (edited) Anyone else think the Macross Quarter looked kinda like the Meltrandi gunship that was to become the Macross in DYRL? Edited May 8, 2008 by Duke Togo Quote
Bill C. Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 (edited) The Diamond Crevasse semi-montage at the end was quite nice. Felt vaguely VF-X/DYRL-ish, wonky art quality notwithstanding. ( Macross Quarter ? The big red Gears of War thing ?) And why was Captain Wilder patting a bridge bunny on the ass , anyway? Oh, Gubaba? This one's for you... Edited May 8, 2008 by Bill C. Quote
MisaForever Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 So do we find out who's ship it was that folded in at the end of episode 5? Quote

As for production quality, considering how much battle footage is shown, something had to be sacrificed on the altar of the budget. All the FX shows have to do it. BSG will cheat and use far less extras in a heavy FX episode to maintain their budget. Since MF is entirely "created", their wiggle room is even less. So I'm cool with a few less than movie quality scenes if it keeps the show on the air. Edited May 8, 2008 by Zinjo Quote

Project Phoenix Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 (edited) So do we find out who's ship it was that folded in at the end of episode 5? If you are talking about the one with a Vajra hitchhiking when the recon squad defolded to investigate, then it is one of the escort ships for the Galaxy fleet. You can see the same ship when Howard Glass made the announcement. One of the recon pilots did say it belonged to the Galaxy before the Red Lobster showed up. Finally, the Koenig Monster gets some prime time love! Looks like so heavy duty fighting is ahead for the SMS and NUNS flotilla. I really dig the Super Pack equipped CF Messiahs on the Quarter's deck. Although it just doesn't make sense since it is a space carrier and I thought valkyries should be kept inside rather than exposed on deck. Question: why did the 171 need 2 Fold Boosters? The Galaxy fleet too far away or as part of their cost cutting methods they decide to reduce the range therefore allow for more booster to be produced? EDIT: My tired eyes read 6 instead of 5. My Apologies! Edited May 8, 2008 by Project Phoenix Quote
Bill C. Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 (edited) Oh, so the Macross Quarter is the SMS carrier ? Odd name, but okay... (And now, Ozma waits patiently for the spoiler period to expire...and for some subs...and a new Fire Bomber album...) Edited May 8, 2008 by Bill C. Quote
Mark Nguyen Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 (edited) Haven't seen it yet, but... Regarding the twin fold boosters on the 171: one for the ride there, and one for the ride back? Mark Edited May 8, 2008 by Mark Nguyen Quote
eugimon Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I hope the inevitable toy of the vf-171 allows for that feature. Quote
Duke Togo Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Haven't seen it yet, but... Regarding the twin fold boosters on the 171: one for the ride there, and one for the ride back? Mark I am thinking its because they are smaller folder boosters, and they couldn't put one large one because of the disc on top. Quote
ssfsx17 Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Dang Ranka has some catching up to do! The chemistry between Alto and Sheryl got really serious in this episode, now that Alto's started hanging Sheryl's earring in his cockpit and stuff. Most people don't do that until after they've hit the sack. Also, in the preview, we can see Mr. Brle's head a lot more clearly - could he be a Protoculture survivor in disguise? Quote

thankheaven Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Why does the VF's need two foldboosters now ? Are they smaller then the M+/M7 ones or is it because they can travel farther with two ? Quote

UN Spacy Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I loved how they mixed the ED with the launching of the Macross Quarter. I'm guessing a LOT of the budget will go into episode seven. The LAST ten minutes were done quite well. Quote
Morpheus Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Good episode with plenty of homage to previous series: - Sheryl imitating Minmay Step, dressed like Sara in the last concert. - Multiple Macross Quarter type ships in Galaxy fleet? - YES, Konig Monster in action next episode. I need some yoshinol..... Quote
Graham Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Won't be able to watch this for another 15 hours or so. So was there any action in this episode at all, or was it all character development stuff again? And do we finally get to see the 171 in battroid mode? Graham Quote

Especially in the last seven or eight minutes. I'm impressed. Quote
Morpheus Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Did I hear Pirates of the Caribbean theme during the VF-171 launch sequence? Quote
Project Phoenix Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 (edited) - Multiple Macross Quarter type ships in Galaxy fleet? Those are twin hulled unnamed escort ships of Galaxy. Very different design from Frontier but definitely not Quarter class. Edited May 8, 2008 by Project Phoenix Quote
Sumdumgai Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Liked the serious new theme. Yeah the animation was wonky this episode. Near the end, damn Sheryl had thick eyebrows. Thicker than Alto's! Sucks to be one of the VF-171 Elint pilots. The one that gets the face shot reaction, you can see that vajra coming straight at him in the reflection of his helmet. Anyone noticed the Lucca-scheme non-Elint VF-25 to the right of the Q-rau's as everyone is getting ready to deploy at the end? Alto should have put the ear-ring in his helmet or somewhere in his suit. He's going to lose that thing if the canopy blows/gets damaged. Anyone get the feeling that we're going to lose a character next episode? And, no, I have not been reading the manga. Quote
