Ohhh I see. Well I don't usually like when subbers do that but I decided to watch it all the way through just to see and it was fine the rest of the way.

Okay, that, I can believe.

(Still doesn't explain why no one was out on the street in the city Guld and Isamu trashed, though...surely SOMEONE must have been on his way to the market because they ran out dip or something...)

Oh, it certainly is.

GG needs to drop the f-bomb from the opening scene. Real turn off, and totally unnecessary.

Uhhmmmm.....could you enlighten us one what the f-bomb is?

Anyways still at 30% with boht GG and Gattai.

The f-word, frack, frick, fcuk with vowel before consonant :)

OH I see. ^_^ Thanks. B))

Damn I'm still at 45% with both gg and Gattai.

On the whole, I appreciate the efforts of anyone and everyone who wants to bring Macross to me in a language I don't have to work to understand.

With that said, do we have anything approaching a consensus on who's fansubs are preferred? So far, I've been doing AiA and Shinsen, with AiA being my favorite and Shinsen being the one that's going to end up on a DVD I can watch on my DivX-compatible DVD players. But by the same token, they both tend to release later than Gattai (and this week, at least, gg as well), and I am getting kind of tired of wanting to participate in episode discussions that have 30-40+ pages of posts before I even watch the episode in question. Not that picking a faster group will help... we have a good number of posts before the raw even hits, let along a subbed version.

I still don't see how you can say that AiA has great quality with their darkness issues. :p Otherwise it's fine but still, that's a BIG ISSUE.

I don't have dark issues.

AiA and Shinsen. Gattai is great because it comes out days to weeks before anyone else releases.

Since GG joined the fray and if they sub it anything like Code Geass, it will be within 24 hours or less.

That's probably because your monitor is set differently. Most people have different settings for their monitor so sometimes video can be dark while it may be bright on another. I know most of the raws I nab are a bit washed out when it comes to color on my monitor. I don't like the darker aspect to the video that our encoder does but the colors are far more vibrant than the raw.

Well, for my case, the dark scenes in AiA is so dark that all I can see is pitch dark, despite with the highest brighting and contrast...

Damn my stupid cathode ray tube monitor. :p

ya AIA is the one I like to watch.

And Yay CRT monitors they will last long into the future Watch Star Trek.

Ditto. I've watched pretty much every episode on my home theater computer, connected to my DLP HDTV via HDMI, if that matters.

Lemme just jump in and say to anybody having "darkness issues" with AIA, make sure you don't have crappy video overlay settings. 'Cause their releases aren't like stunningly darker than the stuff from Shinsen(see pic). If you're having problems with one and not the other, then your computer's default settings for displaying h264 content, whatever they are, probably suck ass. Mine do.

Did gg sub episodes before 7 at all? Seems like they just joined the party.

I've got all the Gattai and AiA I-Z releases so far, and kind of prefer Gattai if just for the video resolution and speed they get the subs out. Seems a bit more literal which I like. Subs are awful and video kind of studders in VLC (I'm on a Mac) but works perfect in QuickTime. I keep my PS3 stocked with the AiA releases tho... gotta see the episodes in 42" glory.

Respect to all those doing subbing for us either way.

calm, i am calm. debatin' on forums is what i do.

and i see no proof that of a mistranslation. let the people who can speak japanese tell us when they make translation errors, not people who speak only english makin' irrational comments.

anybody on shoupz, shoupz wow forums, 3gn or any other forum where i go to will tell you, don't debate with loe kee...

yeah... PLEASE!!! everybody!!! don't debate with "low key"... waste of time...

do i know you, lol??? i'm currently on boxden.com arguin' over 9-11 and loose change (the documentary).

anyways, back on topic. i know that it is bad taste to ask a fansubber when they will release the next episode of macross f fansubbed. i might check out another macross f. version just so that i will be up to date on macross f. until shinsen subs releases their next fansub edition.

The general sense I'm getting is everybody is downloading the early releases, but some are downloading those first to figure out what is going on and waiting for later fansubs to archive. Personally, I'm watching the MKVs but I hate those due to issues with it back when it first popped up. I don't keep them. I prefer AVIs or MP4s to archive since I don't need to worry about soft sub issues.

I have never downloaded so many versions of the same Anime. I really download the first subs that pop out to have a general idea about what is going on.

I am a fan of the AiA fansubs, the only issue I have with them is the editor has taken it upon himself to remove the sponsor's message at the beginning, which in itself is fine. However their cut is always too late and you get a squeak as the music for the message begins and then the next scene appears.

I'd prefer he either leave the damn thing in or do a better cut.

As I said I am a devoted fan of their sub work, but that is really getting annoying after 3 episodes... <_<

Does anyone know if Shinsen stopped subbing Macross F? Last episode I have is 5.

Last I checked, it was still on their "Projects" list. It does seem to take them a while, but the results are good, so I'm happy to wait.

In a year, will it matter than Shinsen took a few weeks with a particular episode? Or will it matter more than we have a good quality fansub sitting on our hard drive instead of a botched rush job?

(And yes, I realize that those are not the only two options, and there are infinite shades of gray between the two extremes, but I'm trying to make a rhetorical point...)

You're right, I'm kinda new to the whole thing so I'm not totally familiar to the time span it usually takes them. I have Shinsen eps 1-5 on desktop and laptop and 5-8 from veoh till Shinsen puts theirs out.

Thanks for the reply ^^

I won't worry about when Shinsen get out their subs. Like many groups, they do many series and they do have real lives. Their subs will come when they are finished. And it's bad practice to ask when a group will release a sub. They release it on their schedule, not yours or the producers.

Anyone has seen Lunar subs? I want some opinion before I download them.

Anyone has seen Lunar subs? I want some opinion before I download them.

I took a look at their episode 8 release (since this episode had lots of dialog) and between [AiA-IZ], it's about split. Some of the language jargon reads better in AiA-IZ's in some cases, some of it reads better in Lunar's.

Ex. 1

AiA - It's a school to learn about traditional culture and technology. A school that focuses on the heritage of Frontier's top specialists.

Lunar - Frontier's top specialist training campus, with a focus on inheritance of traditional culture, technological learning, et cetera.

In this case, Lunar's phrasing feels better as it doesn't jump to a new sentence and doesn't feel as awkward. It feels a bit more consistent.

Ex. 2

AiA- I'm looking forward to it too, Alto.

Lunar - Take me under your wing, 'kay, Alto-kun?

In this case, AiA's feels better. The situation is that both Nanase and Luca are happy about the fact that Ranka joined the school and they get to see each other more.

The rest of the episode goes about the same where I might have preferred AiA's over Lunar's and vice versa.
