Gubaba Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 (edited) Just finished watching "Crossraods Part 1," and am about launch into Part 2. Like most of the two-parters, this felt like setup for something big, and I can't tell what it will be, or what will even be involved. On a personal level, things are already looking bad, with Lee alienating everyone around him (and quitting), Tigh apparently going kookoo (but if he's going kookoo, then why did Anders hear the music also? (And what's with Anders making the move on the new girl? Fast work, bro...)), and Roslin having cancer again (the prophecy said she wouldn't make it to earth...). So if things are unraveling in the micro, I'm guessing they'll move to the macro soon enough... EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to mention. Caprica punching Tigh was one of the greatest moments ever. David Hingtgen Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I'll just wait until you finish Part 2 before saying anything. Too easy to spoil.
Gubaba Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I'll just wait until you finish Part 2 before saying anything. Too easy to spoil. Logging off, sir. Back in an hour or so.
Dobber Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!! He's there, He's there!!! SOOOOOOO whatcha think Gubba? LOL!! Chris
Gubaba Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 (edited) First, I was like Then I was like Then I was like Now, I'm like ... I'm going out to the coffee shop now. If my DVD provider doesn't bring Razor AND Season 4, I'm going to be seriously pissed. (And you guys had to wait, what...five months? Six? to find out what happened next? Man...I'm sorry.) (Funnily enough, whereas I was convinced before that Starbuck DIDN'T die, I'm now inclined to believe that she DID.) (And I can't believe it...BOB DYLAN IS THE CYLON GOD??? Man, I should've seen that one coming... ) Edited December 7, 2009 by Gubaba
azrael Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 (Funnily enough, whereas I was convinced before that Starbuck DIDN'T die, I'm now inclined to believe that she DID.) Oh believe us, she did die. (And I can't believe it...BOB DYLAN IS THE CYLON GOD??? Man, I should've seen that one coming... ) Since I cant really spoil it ill just use a lack of punctuation marks I wouldnt exactly call Bob Dylan the Cylon God EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to mention. Caprica punching Tigh was one of the greatest moments ever. Hehe...there will be more on that. We should all hide our spoilers in subtext just to mind frak Gubaba to the very end.
David Hingtgen Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Gubaba---I said your opinion of Tigh should be finalized by the end of Season 3. Well? His "that's the man I'll be" line is probably my fave in the series. PS---and for "things to think about"----how incredibly ironic it is that he killed Ellen because she was frakking a cylon.
Dobber Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Did you notice that her Viper was pristeen (spelling). Totaly clean, no markings. We were talking about that for months (as you pointed out BTW) Ron Moore even comented on it too. ..... there must be some kind of way outa here.... Go ahead and watch Razor now and then continue on with S4. Also what did you think of Lee's speach? I found it as the a defining moment for him. Chris
David Hingtgen Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Gubaba---she's simply Apollo's "head-Starbuck". Hey, everyone else has a personal hallucination to keep them company, he should too! Also, don't miss on how very little the camera had to pan over to be able to zoom back in to Earth.
Dobber Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Oh yeah I think the wait was about 9 months IIRC. Totally SUCKED! Chris
Dobber Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I always liked the short-lived-but-awesome idea that that was simply Apollo's "head-Starbuck". Hey, everyone else has a personal hallucination to keep them company, he should too! Yeah, poor Lee. Resigned to defend Baltar then starts spouting off about seeing Kara! LOL! Chris
Dobber Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Oh yeah, one more thing. While the wait for S4 blew......trust me the shorter mid season break during S4 was far worse!!! Chris
David Hingtgen Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Ack, Dobber replied before I changed my post---had to spoiler it, sorry.
Dobber Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 (edited) Sorry David there's just SOOO much to come for Gubba, but he's almost there. Funny how I'm all excited again....reliving it through Gubba. While I didn't love S4 as much as the first 2 seasons, It was still far better than anything else on tv. Most suprising moment of S4 For Me, was Dee's suicide, totally didn't see that comming, I figured they were going to reveal her as the final Cylon. Chris Edited December 7, 2009 by Dobber

"My name is Saul Tigh. I'm an officer in the Colonial Fleet. Whatever else I am, whatever else it means, that's the man I want to be. And if I die today, that's the man I'll be." That IS my favourite line in the entire series. It also makes me think how can it be that somebody so damn sure about some things can be so terribly lost about other things. Or viceversa.
-Snowblind- Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 See... I know I'm in a small, small minority here... but I hated the big reveal at the end of the season. Tigh and Tyrol would come out as weaker charcters in my mind (can't really explain why without S4 spoilers). Not to mention the impact on supporting characters. Some things just seemed stretched beyond the breaking point for plausibility (Anders, for example, being a sports star. If the BSGverse is anything like our world - and lets face it, it is - he would've been scouted since high school and entire life would be public).

Yes, yes, yes...that was truly one of the most heroic moments in the entire series so far. And no...my DVD provider DIDN'T bring Razor OR Season 4 today... But one thing I've been thinking about (don't answer please) is that...after Exodus, when the Colonials lost Hera, I though, "Well, at least they've still got one human/Cylon hybrid - Casey." But then of course, it turned out that Casey wasn't half-Cylon, but unbeknownst to all of us...they always had Nicky. No wonder there was the big deal about having Nicky on New Caprica rather than on Galactica... EDIT: Um, no edit here. Nothing happened. It's all in your imagination. Isn't it time to just break down and buy the DVDs like most of us poor suckers? (Or visit iTunes - as much as I hate to suggest it. Gubaba Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 *cough*Nicky*cough* Um, I said "Nicky." What did you think I said...? Re: not getting S4... Isn't it time to just break down and buy the DVDs like most of us poor suckers? And Christmas and my birthday are both coming up...
Dobber Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Do you mean Nicky? Yeah, that'll be addressed. Chris
David Hingtgen Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Darn it, already 3 replies about Nicky. And man, looking back at one of Gubaba's earlier comments...
RedWolf Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Finally you are at te point called the Recon! Tigh was supposedly around during the Cylon War now it turns out it is fake. Indeed how do the planted five go to where they are? Anders as a pro pyramid player, Tyrol serving on Galactica, Tory as a political aide etc... Just shows RDM was making things and he doesn't have a Plan.

Hmm...If I were writing the show, I probably would have said that the Final Five (or should I say "Penultimate Four"...?) were built to replace existing humans...so that a human Colonel Tigh existed, but at some point was replaced with a Cylon copy... But I guess there's some other rationale...? Oh well, I'll find out soon enough.
-Snowblind- Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 ... But I guess there's some other rationale...? ... That depends on your standards, I guess. Be warned... the final season gets extra soap opera...y? esque? ish? Yes, I say that realizing that you've just finished the third season....
kaiotheforsaken Posted December 7, 2009 Author Posted December 7, 2009 Regardless of what some people say, I think RDM puts a pretty nice bow on everything by the end. I think the explanation of the Final 5 is actually quite good.

Evil Porkchop Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 (edited) Regardless of what some people say, I think RDM puts a pretty nice bow on everything by the end. I think the explanation of the Final 5 is actually quite good. The episode itself I greatly enjoyed but the vey, very, last bit of it was horrible... really just that last 15 minutes or so... or even just the last 5 minutes it's been a while since I watched the finale. But the explanation of the Final 5 I did like. Edited December 7, 2009 by Evil Porkchop
kaiotheforsaken Posted December 7, 2009 Author Posted December 7, 2009 The last few minutes I can take or leave the whole modern day bit but other than that I thought the ending was very fitting.
Gubaba Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I went back to the original series today and watched "Baltar's Escape." I love how everyone in the civilian government is portrayed as a deluded weakling, and only through martial law can the fleet be protected from naive idiocy. I also love Boomer's little "putting the shuttle into a dive" stunt, which would've been convincing if they'd, y'know, HAD AN ATMOSPHERE, but which makes no sense in space. Really, apart from the lack of good writing, the thing that bugs me most in the original show is the contempt for the laws of science in it. Would it have killed the producers to call up NASA and ask for a little bit of advice on how space travel ACTUALLY works...?
Einherjar Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 After all these years since the beginning of the show, I still feel sorry for Boxey in both versions.

Pretty much like Knight Rider 2008 KITT after the Transformer movie, with KARR as a robot with Peter Cullen's voice. Battlestar Galactica had a lot of goofs like what is a galaxy. Oh yeah if you're going to watch Razor don't trust the ship sizes in one scene. A lot of inconsistencies in that shot. These are the more less correct sizes of the Colonial Fleet. Galactica - 1438.64 m Length, 536.84m Width, 183.32m Height Pegasus (Mercury Class)- 1789.8 m Length Valkyrie – around 700 m length (Based on Viper tube sizes and The Plan) Berzerk Escort - 842 m Length, 215m Width, 118 m Height (Irrational Design numbers) Think of the Galactica and Pegasus like the Macross class and Battle class of the Colonial Fleet, without the Macross cannons. While the other two as ARMDs, Urugas, Northamptons, Guantanamos and Stealth Cruisers. The Valkyrie closer to a mini-battlestar an analog would be the Macross Quarter. After all these years since the beginning of the show, I still feel sorry for Boxey in both versions. Battlestar 1980 had Boxey named Troy. Some 20 years after the original series. It's only saving grace was the Starbuck episode. Edited December 8, 2009 by RedWolf
Gubaba Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 After all these years since the beginning of the show, I still feel sorry for Boxey in both versions. I totally wanted to BE Boxey when I was a kid. Now I find his scenes rather nauseating in their bald-faced grab at the Pre-pubescent Male demographic. I feel a little sorry for Boxey in the new version, because I don't think I've seen him since he was playing cards with Boomer the miniseries. I thought he was actually going to be a character, instead of just a little in-joke thrown in to make people think, "PLEASE, Lord, don't let him get a robot dog!"

I'm not a big mecha-head, so I doubt I would've noticed any inconsistencies. But since you pointed them out, they'll probably be obvious to me now. Really, as long as spaceships and fighters and things look relatively functional and don't break the laws of physics TOO blatantly, I'm pretty happy. The technical minutia generally zips right past me.
RedWolf Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Originally the plan for Boxey was for him to play son to Chief Tyrol as father and Boomer as mother.
