Hmmm, looks like DYRL when Hikaru and Misa stranded in Earth, makes me wonder whether

Alto and Ranka will share their first kiss there ^o^.

and I am guessing they would discover new protoculture's artifacts or secrets to the Vajra.....hmm descendants of Sara Nome & Shin Kudo ?!

OK, I really, really don’t understand the Japanese anime viewing public at all.

Episode 7 with its tense, exciting, well choreographed and superbly animated battle scenes only gets 1.8%, whereas the poorly animated, slapstick comedy filler that is episode 8 gets a whopping 3%!

All I can think of is that word of how awesome episode 7 was spread, so lot’s more people tuned in to see episode 8. After watching 8, we'll probably get a ratings drop for 9 as IMO episode 8 may have turned off some views, but wadda’ I know anyway?

I hope BW and Satelight after seeing these rating don't decide to rewrite the rest of Frontier and cut out all the action and mecha scenes and fill the remainder of the episodes with non-stop slapstick, in an effort to boost ratings.

Huh. Within one episode Frontier managed to nearly doubled it's ratings and more importantly it managed to hit the giddy ceiling of 3.0 which I've always hoped it would as far back as 3-4 weeks ago before I got demoralised by the poor showing for episode 7. My prediction had always been for Frontier to hit the 3.0 ceiling by episode 8 but that was on the condition that episode 7 hit the highs of over 2.6 where that the viewership numbers could build from.

This is.... erratic.

Oh well, guess we can look foward to more of the panty loving limbless green mascot from now on... Seems to the only new thing that's been introduced lately which coincided with the ratings spike. *gah...*

panties+shower scene = ratings

i'd like to think that word of mouth from ep7 is what got people watching ep8.

but then again, maybe it was word of mouth that sheryl lost her panties (seems to have been highlighted in a lot of forums when the episode synopsis was leaked out)...

i don't know if i'm going to be happy or wary about this

Maybe its just me, but I just don't see the Japanese audience tuning out after an episode full of fanservice. I think that may actually be against the law in Japan.

If word of mouth affects ratings increase than episode 7 of Golgo 13 must've been pretty bad.

*1.6% (*4.1%) 05/24 (Sat) *1:23am-*1:53am TV Tokyo Golgo 13

2.5% drop is massive for a late night show... anyway since everyone loves to compare the two.. here's the high, low, avg for Frontier and Geass, just for fun I'll throw in To Love Ru.

Macross Frontier

High: 3.0% (Episode 8)

Low: 1.1% (Episode 1)

Avg: 2.17%

Code Geass R2

High: 3.0% (Episode 1)

Low: 1.4% (Episode 4)

Avg: 2.23%

To Love Ru

High: 2.9% (Episode 3)

Low: 2.0% (Episode 5)

Avg: 2.52%

If the first episode didn't have such a low rating (thanks to Deculture being available for 3 months) it would more than likely have a higher avg rating than Geass... they should've just kept Geass in a late night slot....

I'm not sure what you can gain from last week since most shows at the late night hour stayed in the ballpark or went up from the previous week.

Golgo 13 was the only one to drop. And drop hard.

Well, it's good to see Macross Frontier doing well, however whacked and unexpected the individual episode ratings may be.

G13 on TV would be a like a PG13 Rambo movie. WTF would want to see that?

Posted

A PG-13 Golgo 13 would probably go something like

"Coming up next on Golgo 13: Duke finally discovers the magical lost unicorn Adele! But can he save it from the grip of Red Eddie?"

:D

Anyway...hopefully, the word of mouth holds up and episode 9 of MacF won't be the massive ratings drop we're dreading...

Posted
Well, after the last episode had that rating, it could be that the rating is inversely proportional to the budget of the episode

The good old Murphy's Law of anime ratings...

Well 3.0 is a good number to build from but from what we've seen the pattern always have the numbers drop on average after a particular good rated episode for Frontier. Hopefully if the patterns continues it'll not drop further than a 2.7 though I'm all for it climbing over the 3.0 mark.

Is it too much to hope that KK's fanbase will carry it thru for ep9?

Hey if Macross keeps good numbers they could add a second season. I am actually extremely fond of Macross F but then again I am able to watch it as it comes out as to waiting for dvds and such.

Panty power!

In all honesty though, the way 7 was set up, it left mysteries open to explore, and I was very interested in 8 to see if it shed any light on what we could not figure out in 7.

EDIT -- Just watched the live Diamond Crevasse clip posted above.. man, that host is one condescending bastard. If May'n was anything like Sheryl she would have gotten up, torn the mic off and stormed out.

i bet Sheryl would've to swallow her pride too if she was just starting her career. :)

BTW, the host is the drunkard character in Densha Otoko TV version :D

also, i've found a mp4 file of the May'n live using Share. ;)

The preview for episode 10 is up and

it seems the movie is to highlight the new Miss Macross Frontier, Miranda. Sheryl isn't staring in the Zero movie. I guess she's just a producer and SMS is providing all the technical stuff. Also pictures of the bridge bunnies and Cathy looking at a picture/profile of Alto-Hime's alter ego and Ranka in Mao's dress are shown.

But she's not just starting out...she released three singles a few years ago.

Of course, I think they failed utterly, so perhaps it's not much different than if she were starting out...but still...accuracy an' all that sh!t.

The person to play Shin isn't revealed yet...

Why him?! Because he can fly a plane?! and he can act... o__O

It's part of the Macross Frontier Rule of Parallelisms and Homages to Previous Series.

In this case, it might be a reference to Basara and Mylene playing Hikaru and Minmei in a TV special in Macross 7.

spoiler for ep 10:

the director is a huge fan of Alto-hime... yes kabuki fan :)

I had the impression that he was never star-struck with Sheryl because he's seen better looking people... such as himself.

Yeah, but he will have to cut his hair, hehehe...

Why? Basara kept his hair fart when he played Hikaru in M7...

Actually if he did, imagine the fallout from his father!!!

In hollywood he would and it would be a symbolic break from his Kabuki roots and an acceptance of his new life as a pilot, but this aint hollywould...

Besides, I'm sure his fans are big admirers of his long, lustrous hair.

Heck, since his dad has all but diswoned him, he's probably been supporting himself by secretly doing shampoo adds.
