AcroRay Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 I checked with him the other day, and he's still selling all six variants - assembled or in kit form. Kit form is a little cheaper. Now if only I had the cash to spare for even one... gah. Quote
Whamhammer Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Finally put my Eager / Scout Space Booster squad back together. I ordered them from an interesting place but they came in bits. I will probably add more detail to the eyes with 3 tiny silver bb's or something. Anyway - its very cool to have enemy mechs to pose with all these new Mospeada releases. If you are a fan and do not have the beta combo yet - get it. Had fun photoshopping the space battle. Working on another one with the Legioss / Alpha in soldier mode grappling with the trio of Inbits . . . (ps - drat that toynami for not doing the top beta missile bays, need them here in the space chase) Those are really cool!! Are those "crabs" still available to buy somewhere? And to they have to other types as well? Quote
Whamhammer Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Hey guys, I'm in a pickle. As I've mentioned on the other sections in Mospeada/New Generationland , I broke my Toynami Shadow Alpha (shocker). I was setting it up in my display case in place of my Green Alpha/Legioss ,who will be getting moved in my "Alpha-Beta-McRibb combo" section , it was fresh from the box (knowing how fragile ShadowAlphas have been in the past it was N.R.F.B.) . While trying to bring the landing gear out to connect it to the exterior panel, my finger slipped and I snapped the right-hand "strake" on its pivot-point. In the attached picture (Thanks VF') , the area where Bernards right foot is placed (the "strake") is the area that is broken on mine. Does anyone have a beat up Toynami Shadow Fighter that I might be able to buy from them (with that part intact, of course)? Worst case, any Toynami Alphas for that matter, but preffereable a Shadow. I can make a payment through paypal if need be. Thanks in advance, Whammy' Quote
Mog Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 ^^I forget if it was the left or the right one, but the same piece broke on my Shadow Alpha too. Would a drop (or two or three) of superglue work in your situation? On my Shadow, I was able to superglue the part back into place with no real ill effects. The transformation process wasn't really hampered by it either (though I do treat the repaired part with kid gloves). Quote

Totoro242 Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 So I got a couple of Beta toys recently, and I took some pics. Enjoy! Quote
jenius Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I go back and forth on the Toynami legs. Are they supposed to be extended in Battloid? I think they look better extended, like how you have them, but it seems like that's not how they're intended to be. Quote
Mog Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I prefer the legs collapsed in Battloid. It gives the Beta that stocky/bulky bruiser look. And it doesn't really limit the range of motion on the knees all that much. I also have a pic of one of the old prototype Betas, and the legs on it look collapsed as well. Quote
Totoro242 Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Yes, I purposely extended the legs on both toys because to me they look too stocky otherwise The Tread is meant to tower over the Legioss as you see in the line art Quote
Mog Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Even without the legs extended, the Big-Bad Beta still towers over the Alpha. Quote
Totoro242 Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 From a design standpoint, the sculpt of the Toynami Beta is amazing. It has incredible amounts of detail and articulation. Compared to the Gakken it wins hands down in every category except one; proportion. The Gakken, though ridiculously lacking in the articulation aspect, seems to have been directly influenced by the line art perspective drawings. Looking at the toy from the side or back in fighter mode, is like looking at perfect 3D representation. The Toynami on the other hand has lower legs that appear to be diminished by maybe 20%. My guess is that since this is die-cast, Toynami intentionally made the lower legs smaller to reduce production costs. My only problem with Beta has been that the smaller legs gives it a sort of ape look with the disproportionately long arms and short legs I display them extended to compensate for this. Quote
Whamhammer Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I wish someone would come out with a "cheaper" fighter mode only Beta that linked to Alphas and was fully detailed(inculding missile pods). How many people (like myself) just have them as piggybacks for the Alphas anyways? Quote
derex3592 Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 (edited) I like the legs collapsed in Battaloid mode myself......just my .02 Edited October 3, 2009 by derex3592 Quote

How many people (like myself) just have them as piggybacks for the Alphas anyways? One's in fighter combo mode, but the other Beta is in battloid. Honestly, I really wouldn't care for a fighter-only Beta. There's just more posing options and possibilities with a fully transformable one. Quote

For a time, George Sohn (Toynami owner) had scrapped the idea of the transforming Beta in favor of a non-transforming plastic Beta. Fan response was not very positive. I like the transforming Beta also. Quote

Fan response was not very positive. I like the transforming Beta also. Dont get me wrong, I own all three of the available Betas and love them. I just think it would be nice to have a "piggyback" mode only version that was cheap enough to put with all of my fighters (I own a bunch). Also it wouldnt be as expensive to custom paint and mod a "cheapy" one. (I have a paint scheme Im dying to paint up, but not for 230 bux worth of Alpha-Betas!!!). Quote

nukatsuka Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 (edited) Ill post a pic this weekend. Its bigger than those figures and it comes with the gun that came with the large gakken cyclone in its hand, and the visor is open. Its made from softer material than the figs that came with the alpha. Im not sure where I got it but I think it was from one of those toy machines. Edited December 5, 2009 by nukatsuka Quote
