The surface texture reminds me of when I used the fusion paint. The shiny metal landing gear and swing bars look great with the all black scheme. It gives it just a bit of a kick and makes the valk look like it means business. Good work, I bet you'll be looking to cusotmize some more toys now. THANKS!!! I will be looking to do some more customizing....I am pretty soon going to be trying my hand at modeling . I did use the Ultra Flat Black Camo Krylon Fusion which worked PREFECTLY. But then to seal I could not seem to find a flat sealer only could find one that was Satin. So the effect came out shiny...not what I was going for but it works. genghis Posted April 14, 2008 Share Posted April 14, 2008 Hi! I'm back again! This time I'm working on VF-1S (the normal one, not the weathered one), at the same time watching the old Macross series. I figured I can do a better job First, I use Tamiya thin cement to get rid of the seamline. And then use the graphite powder to highlight the details. Before After Next is to remove the ugly seamline on VF-1S head. Originally, it seam is uneven (I did not took a pic). Looked as if Voltron has cleaved thru the head unevenly. I used Tamiya Thin Cement again, then file and sandpaper, then sprayed Tamiya Insignia White. Next I used a very small screw driver to bore 4 holes into the 4 laser cannons on VF-1S head. I dirtied the head a bit to see how it would turn out. Weathering will wait till I finish applying all the decals. It's not too obvious if I don't look closely at it ;p I've started panel-lining. I wash it with Mr. Hobby Dark Grey first. I plan to wash it again with light grey to get a 'smoky' effect. I'm still experimenting to see how to achieve what I have in mind. Also experimenting with Tamiya Weathering Master. There are plenty of how-to's posted for all the details/fixes you listed. You're just being lazy. OK, maybe you just have more of a social life than me. Speaking of my lack of a life, I've made fairly good progress on my first Gundam model. Hi brannon, I thought your work is getting along nicely? If you really want to strip off the paint, you need to be sure what type of paint you are using and then use the correct method. I suggest you read this thread first. Gundam kits are great, don't get me wrong, however after building 5 PG's, 40+ MG's, and countless HG 1/100's, it gets a bit repetitive when it's all basically the same robot. And that's not including the EVA Kits, Patlabor's, and so on. BTW, if you haven't yet, you really should check out the Patlabor MG's. Great kits. They have real rubber coverings, good size pilot figures, and neat features. Decent prices too. I strongly recommend Ingram 2 and the Flight Griffon. genghis Posted April 23, 2008 Share Posted April 23, 2008 Managed to progress a bit on this over the wkend. Tried to make the seamlines a bit less obvious using Tamiya thin cement. There's no way to hide them unless I paint the toy, which I don't want to. I def don't want paint to chip when I'm transforming this toy. Washed the cockpit area. Here's the front shot. The head is a shade whiter than the rest of the body (As if he used SK-II ). I'll try to 'dirty' it a bit more to make it less obvious. Do let me know how I can improve. It looks like the only way to improve upon what you've already done would be to do a full disassembly and repaint which you understandably don't want to do.
