Wicked Ace Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 navy blue then a too light blue or intermediate blue will make it turn out to look like a toy Navy blue is too dark if you want to stay faithful to the referenced magazine picture. You don't actually have to use the flat aircraft paints. I'm sure there are a few Tamiya brand non-aircraft blues that will get you close; just use a flat (or dull coat) over the project as a final step to keep your project from being too glossy or "toy like." Ghostkiller Posted January 28, 2008 Author Posted January 28, 2008 Blue Angel Blue looks fine to me Here what I've found on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/TES1772-Blue-Angel-Blu...5QQcmdZViewItem Color references: http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/s...modelmaster.htm Blue Angel Blue: http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=15050 Testors: http://www.testors.com/catalog_item.asp?itemNbr=785 thks charger I appreciate that but no airbrush and to have a perfect finish I do not want to hand paint it Quote
Ghostkiller Posted January 28, 2008 Author Posted January 28, 2008 maybe I will spray flat white on it and before it gets dry I will spray on it the navy blue then both colors are going to mix together and the blue will not be too dark I have done it in the past and I know it may sound silly but it worked in the past it would be light sprays of course Quote
Ghostkiller Posted January 28, 2008 Author Posted January 28, 2008 ok my god already almost a thousand views on this subjet lol Quote
Ghostkiller Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 hey guys during my custom project I found a fix for the chest part that does not look good in fighter mode see below the fix is minor and does not change the look and u can barely noticed it !!!!! a simple zacto knife and sand paper is required u need to cut down the piece and sand it to have a perfect finish but no obligation to sand honestly see the pictures below the result in fighter mode : "happy fix" Quote
David Hingtgen Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Here's the real F-15 scheme in blue, if you'd like a reference: (if you'd like a little something extra---paint the wheels black. Early F-15s had black wheels, not white---why not do the same for the YF-19?) Quote

Ghostkiller Posted February 2, 2008 Author Posted February 2, 2008 the 19 can rock solid in both side bottom and top view Yes no joke It took me 2 hours to figure out but it was worth it still using sand paper and a zacto knife Before getting to the blue paint I needed no gaps in fighter mode cause I will deal with blue lines here are the shots of the result and the parts to modify comments are useless I have rounded in red the parts to work on  Yamato fix that for your future reissue Quote
Ghostkiller Posted February 2, 2008 Author Posted February 2, 2008 holy crap! Thank you SO MUCH for this! no prob and do not forget the chest part fix as well !!!!!!! Quote
eugimon Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 yeah, the gapiness of the yf-19 has always bugged me, this is awesome. I need to go and get some files and get to work on mine. Quote
eugimon Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 so, I decided I'm not brave enough to start filing away at the body but I did do that hip mod. Works like a charm, legs sit flush in fighter mode. I love it! Quote

Wicked Ace Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 (edited) the rest will be post on : Hey! What are you working on?, Let's see some progress pictures. I can't wait to see more. Since you've got your paints out, why don't you go ahead and make me a VF-X Ravens scheme (the blue VF-19A from VF-X2). Edited February 8, 2008 by Wicked Ace Quote
Ghostkiller Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 not finished at all But just love the battroid look thought It would be nice to share !!! Quote
eugimon Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 looking good! How does the paint hold up on that hip/thigh joint? Looks like there would be some concern over chipping. Quote
Ghostkiller Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 looking good! How does the paint hold up on that hip/thigh joint? Looks like there would be some concern over chipping. Thks !! I have been sanding all the pieces that could be an issue for the moment Quote
dizman Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Wowza that looks really good for not being done, can't wait to see it in fighter when its 100% done. Quote
M'Kyuun Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Excellent job so far. Looking at the original, the paint seems much flatter. Are you planning on leaving it glossy, or applying a dullcoat? Either way, it looks phenomenal. Can't wait to see it finished! Quote
Wicked Ace Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I see we're back to this thread. Looking good; how long on the decals? Quote
Ghostkiller Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 (edited) I see we're back to this thread. Looking good; how long on the decals? Yes man could not leave it here for this topic lol lol Decals are going to be a pain I think ..........so ... regular macross signs will do for the moment unless I can get them and it is a bit glossy but I like it so far I thought this blue would be too glossy but in real it is not at all so I am wondering if I am going to clear flat it honestly .......... Edited February 19, 2008 by Ghostkiller Quote
Chronocidal Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 The blue scheme you're using did seem to have a lot of extra bits of decals and labels tacked onto it. Personally, I think just the regular insignia would be fine, with maybe just the supernova logo if you can do it. That paint job so pretty, I'd hate to cover it up with a bunch of decals. Quote
Ghostkiller Posted March 1, 2008 Author Posted March 1, 2008 Fast pack and fold testing on the blue proto ???? Quote
Ghostkiller Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 Nicely done! But still needs decals thks charger!!!! not the decals of supernova but they are ok and not sealed so the bird's decals will be changed the day I can get supernova decals By ghostk, Quote
eugimon Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 wow, looks great. Paint is nice and clean. Question though, why the gunmetal on the shoulders and then the grey on the shield? The grey on the shield kinda bugs me in that it doesn't seem to tie in very well in fighter mode ( I saw the chest accents in battroid though) but my personal tastes aside, it looks great I think. The pinstriping looks great and I love that shade of blue. Quote

Quote
eugimon Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 well, I can certainly understand you wanting to stay away from further yf-19 repaints... there's just a lot of pieces that rub up against, snap onto or peg into another piece to make everything hold together for fighter mode. A shame though, your work is really quite good. I admire the clean application of paint and technical skill and the attention to not only the details but the overall look and feel. Quote
