UN Spacy
BBC news just announced that Quantum of Solace will indeed be the title for the 22nd movie in the James Bond franchise. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7206997.stm The title is taken from one of a collection of short stories published by 007 creator Ian Fleming in 1960. Producer Michael Wilson said the film would have "twice as much action" as 2006's Casino Royale, which saw Daniel Craig debut as the iconic secret agent. The next outing, previously known as Bond 22, is partly being shot at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.
HoveringCheesecake
I'm very excited for this. Hopefully Craig can beat his performance in Casino Royale. EDIT: Oh man, November 7?! I can't wait. Edited January 24, 2008 by meh_cd
eugimon
yeah, I'm all in for this new incarnation of Bond. I thought craig was absolutely fantastic as bond and I really like the direction they're moving in. Took a page from the bourne series but still remained true to what made Bond, Bond. KingNor
driven by revenge is a scary phrase. the new bond was so great because it ignored it's pedigree. I see revenge mentioned twice here. my fear is that rather than getting interesting, this bond will be al about "you'll pay now, mr who ever you are that killed my woman" yawn. As for the new bond girl who is also "driven by revenge" i get this horrible gutt feeling she's going to be the sister of that girl who got killed in the hammock. please please please don't let me be right. oh god. I don't want this to become Bond Wars where every important international figure is somehow blood or sex related to people in the first film. ugh . that said, man i can't wait, Casino Royal was flippin amazing. areaseven
It's too bad Martin Campbell's not directing this next film. Marc Forster may have gotten some recognition with Monster's Ball, Finding Neverland and The Kite Runner, but how will he fare as a Bond director? promethuem5
So is this a totally new original Bond story? Bc/ while I didn't get the whole Bond vibe from most of the last one, the last scene gave me chills as it delivered on all the Bondyness the rest of the movie had intentionally with-held... I'm excited.

I'm excited. Yes, that was Casino Royale's best strength; keeping the Bondyness to the very end. It remains to be seen how this film fares since the last one was the "creation of Bond". Now that he's been made, will he be the same as before or will he be more Bourne-ish. Bourrne != Bond.
JsARCLIGHT
I thought Casino Royale was going to be the dumbest thing ever until I saw it. It changed my mind and I rank it as one of my top three favorite Bond movies now. I'm going to give this movie the benefit of the doubt and probably go see it opening week. The ball is in it's court to let me down and I won't badmouth it until I see it.
promethuem5
I'm not sure if I'd top three it, (bc/ Connery really, truly is my only actual Bond), but it's definitely a great film, and I still managed to see it twice in theaters... and it was greatly needed after the dearth of bad Brosnan flicks (read: all of them)
Roy Focker
I don't know I still think Craig is really Sarah Jessica Parker dressed as a man.
Warmaker
I have to disagree Roy. I think Sarah Jessica Parker looks closer to Dee Snyder from Twisted Sister
the white drew carey
I don't know I still think Craig is really Sarah Jessica Parker dressed as a man. Yeah, but you are also so totally gay, so Danny Craig as Sarah Jessica Parker makes sense to you...

I'm in agreement with your final assessment, but I have to admit that I think Danny Craig was the kind of injection the franchise needed. Timothy Dalton is a twat and Pierce Brosnan would've been a good Bond during the Cold War, but once that ended the whole idea of Bond was lost and Hollywood did their worst to try to carry on the character past the cold war. Danny Craig's Bond is the best reinvention of the character we've had yet, and I have to admit, as a Bond fan, that he is the best incarnation since Connery, and even better for the new millenium (as cheesy as that may sound). Scream Man
See, daniel Craig is Ian Flemmings Bond. The bond films were aways more gadgety and over the top than the novels, which Im a big fan of. i havent liked most of the bond films, because i distinctly rememebr the books they were written off, and was shocked at how VASTLY different the character of Bond was. Then along came Casino royale. And...wow. Its JAMES BOND man! QUick thinking, cold, calculating Bond. Women are just something he has to do to keep going ona job. He IS the job! Bring on the new flick, Im finally getting my Bond movies!
Vermillion21
Daniel Craig's Bond was great in Casino Royale - I had major doubts, but he totally won me over. The name for the new flick however sounds kinda lame ...
Weaseldancer
I liked the fact that they made the new bond more of a cold blooded killer. That is what he was in the novels. Hopefully this next movie will be as good as casino royale.

Smiley424
Just rewatched Casino Royale last night, kick-ass. I'm excited about this next installment though the title is kind of out there (though I'm sure the movie plot will explain it's significance). Alex
Just rewatched Casino Royale last night, kick-ass. I'm excited about this next installment though the title is kind of out there (though I'm sure the movie plot will explain it's significance). The significance has already been explained. It was originally used by Fleming for a short story. Wikipedia has the full story on why it was chosen and why it's significant. Sumdumgai
It's a shame they're not switching Bond's gun to the new Walther PPS, which looks like the evolved form of the PPK that Bond used to use.

bsu legato
He looked kind of old to be Bond at the start of his secret agent career. It's never been intended to be the "start" of his spy career. It's only the start of his 00 status. Bond has always been a veteran agent, implying he's no fresh-faced twenty-something. In Fleming's books, Bond had served with Naval Intelligence in WW2, some 15-20 years earlier.
