I am really a new member as well considering that I have only been on the forums for just about a year (on the 25th of Jan will be my 1st anniversary).

But I was just noticing recently what seemed to be a huge number of newcomers.

Then I checked the members search and found that something like 150 new members have joined since the new year and the majority of them have not posted anything.

I will apologize ahead of time for being absurd and rude and of course paranoid, but WTF?!?!?!

I welcome all macross fans of course as I was welcomed almost a year ago and I think that this is a wonderful place for us. I just found it to be a little strange and the freaky side of me said, "What is going on?". I suppose it took me a while to muster up the courage to make my first post and I was a lurker for a couple of years before joining.

But here are some examples of my paranoid thinking:

"These supposed newcomers are spys from the different toy companies trying to mess with us!"

"There must be some spamming potential here?"

"With several accounts someone could easily win an argument"

and of course much worse things too.

I am sure that I am wrong and if I am please forgive me and welcome to the wonderful world of Macross.

I do not have statistics but is this an unusual amount of new members joining? Maybe it is the Macross Frontier preview that did it. Or maybe it is just that over a hundred people made a new years resolution to finally stop lurking and join.

So I welcome you to defeat my insanity (good luck!)...

Moderators, please let me know if I am out of line...

New members, who are being bashful, please feel free to say whatever you want about macross here (following the rules of course), and do not be afraid to be a public idiot. I have been publically stupid for almost a year here.

and of course, Spys, come forward... Who sent you? Who do you work for? Do you have connections with Yamato or Bandai and if so can you get me a job?

its no secret that a lot of the community here are lurkers, but lurking is tough when you gotta log-in to see pics, therefore forcing people to register. the sheer number of macross related images on this site is unreal and as much as i enjoy a good discussion, you can't fully enjoy this site if you can't look at pics.

Thanks DoNotDisturb, That actually makes a lot of sense and something that I forgot. I appreciate your helping to quell my paranoia.

And remember it's always EXO's fault

More members could mean a bigger fanbase. More Macross fans could also result in more Macross goodies ^_^

But here are some examples of my paranoid thinking:

"These supposed newcomers are spys from the different toy companies trying to mess with us!"

this isn't paranoia, this is the truth. if its macross/robotech related, anyone working for a company producing macross toys should be obligated to visit this place. afterall, it would be in their best interest to hear what the fans have to say about their products and such.

"There must be some spamming potential here?"

this is paranoia. i don't know if you ran across Hurin yet but hes pretty good about keeping these types of things in check. i have yet to see one spam post in this place saying how my penis will grow 8".

"With several accounts someone could easily win an argument"

this is paranoia and as stated above, Hurin would keep that in check as well.

if someone goes through the trouble to create 2 accounts just so they can "win", they got more pressing issues to deal with.

besides theres no winner of an arguement on the internet, just two losers.

sorry i had to address this but it was strictly for my own enjoyment. :D

Maybe they only comment when they've got something useful to say ;)

Damn....I need to quite commenting then....cause most of what I say is NOT useful.

With all the new Yamato stuff coming out and a new TV series coming out, it's no wonder that there's a large influx of members. :)

And Hurin has been doing a fantastic job of taking care of spammers. Hats off to the unabashedly contrarian one!

I remember when I was a newbie.

Anyhoo, I myself am expecting an influx of new blood with the new TV series out. It's a good thing to see our fanbase expanding rather than dwindling.

And just to be on the safe side your friendly neighborhood moderation team just placed a nice big order for some new riot gear, tear gas and a huge crate of rubber bullets.:lol:

Speaking of new members... Hi! I'm new thanks for having me. I'm trying to get some use out of my new wacom tablet and fan art has been fun so far. But don't worry I'm not to quirky though I can never think of a cool as dirt handle for websites... oh well!

Yes, welcome steve. I liked your graphic contribution. Very cool. I want to get one of those tablets too. Which one do you have. I was thinking about the Bamboo one. Is that too cheap?

This is what I think a lot of people do, take for excample the new 1/60 vf-1 tread, how many times can you make comment on dubble jointed elbows, I post a bit but most of the time I'm lost for anything to contribute and just can't babble on about nothing. I try to post pic's of models I've finished but in the end it's just stuff that's most people have seen before so I've stopped. It's great to see new members signing up and it's great for Macross but I don't think you will see a flood of new posts from them, maybe as some of the older members start to fade away they will become more confident in posting, who knows.

"With several accounts someone could easily win an argument"

Since when did numbers decide who the winner would be in an argument? People will have their opinion whether it's 1 or 1,000 people they speak against.

Ultimately, does it really matter? Personally, I recommend that you worry about more important things that go on in the world rather than what happens or COULD happen in an internet message board...

I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that the other members of the staff do far more and work much harder to keep things running smoothly around here than I do. While I tackle a few of the more technical problems and sometimes can handle an issue that used to have to be handed off to Shawn, the moderating staff is the real glue that holds this place together on a day-to-day basis. So while I appreciate the sentiments, I'm not nearly as deserving of them as these fine folks.

In that case, in addition to Hurin, hats off to: "blame" >EXO< ;) , "gubaba avatar" azreal, "Mr. munch munch mmmmm" Dangard Ace, "airplane guru" David Hingtgen, "Sith Lord" Graham, "weapons specialist" JsARCLIGHT, mechamaniac "with the ever pointing monkey", MilkManX "equiped with Optimus Prime avatar", "the original Skull Focker" Roy Focker, and the "ever elusive" Shawn.

Thank you to all the mods for your efforts. :) And putting up with us nuts. ;):p:lol:

Oh great... now even he n00bs now know to blame me... I always wonder how that started... I'll find the guy and pound him. I'm gonna be blamed for it anyway.

As for the new members, we really got a good new batch of regular posters. Not gonna name names cuz I don't want to leave anyone out but it's fun reading the threads once again. Not to mention all the exciting things happening with the new toys, new customs, scratch builds and all that. It's a good time to be a Macross fan. With all the Mospeada stuff happening, it's a great time to be a Robotech fan. I kinda hope someone would pick up the Southern Cross mantle. Heck, we got new Megazone and Orguss stuff before SX stuff.

If you guys get a chance, come out to the MWCon and SDCC this year. It's gonna be a great year guaranteed. Hell, even Graham should come out foe this one. Bring some potos of the new 1/60s with him.

Anyway, props to Hurin, Mechamaniac for upkeeping of the main site. Hopefully we can add more stuff. And props to the other mods that keep the site in such great order. And of course the new and long time members that truly keep the site alive. Happy quarter of a century to Macross (belated) I'm looking forward to 25 more years of being broke.

yeah! what he said! :)

i guess thats another one of those useless posts. :D

You rotten kids and all your posts!

lol I guess the reason for the flood of new members and little activity was due to the news of Macross F so people were checking pictures and post on it. It seems this will be a good year for Macross fans as new merchandise will be available, good in the sense of new stuff, but still bad for our bank accounts.

I've actually been trying to get on here for a few months and ended up over on macrossnexus trying to get on here. I actually only found out about Mac F once I started to read the boards.

Sweet. I am going to have to pick up one of those. Great to have compact media tools.

Yeah the influx of new members is to be expected with Frontier out and a ton of Macross related toys on the way. It is nice to see the membership growing but as a semi-old timer I get sick of the same old topics popping up from the noobs, but it's to expected I guess. So whatever.

Bingo. I fall into precisely that category.

That, and the not posting unless I have something worth saying.

Thank you for the input. It is good to know. I do not know why my mind jumped immediately to conspiracy theories!

Welcome to Macross World. If you like toys then good luck to you. If you can resist the Yamato bug then you are a greater (robot) being than I.

I love your handle. I really like that film.

i've come across this very situation a few times and let me tell ya....

going on vacation sounds good but when the vacation is over, its just over.

while much like an STD, a macross toy is the gift that keeps on giving.

I'm starting to think a vacation where I travel to a place where I can buy a good Macross toy would be the best of both worlds. My only saving grace is that I get all the gear for my first obsession cheap. Woot for working in a custom car audio shop.
