cool8or Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 (edited) Hi my Friends! I introduce to you my latest creation: The Fokker D VII used by Roy Focker in the Flying Circus of Hikaru's dad (or this is another lair of Robotech? ) Anyway, I used to make this aircraft a Roden Model kit, with some modifications, and decals designed by a friend of mine, the infamous Mike Hawk. These are transitorial pics, I'm waiting a set of Tamiya Wheathering pigments, to dirt the motor and other parts. Then I'll take the definitive pics, with better light (no flash). As always, any comment will be welcome. Details of "Haru" and "Kawamori" decals: For Color Scheme and details, I used some captures of the TV show, and images from the Macross Mecha Manual web page: Thank you Mr. March!! Gabe Q Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 That is amazing. How did it occur to you to make this scheme? I'm very impressed by your originality. Great work! Quote
PetarB Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I've built a lot of Roden models. Some of them had horrible fit issues. Others were really good! How was this one? And nice build, too! Quote

That's right! This is one with horrible fit issues Anyway, is the best Fokker D VII that I found, it have many more details than Airfix, by example. Quote
big F Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Nicely done. Your turning into a modeling machine like HWR Quote
jardann Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Awesome build! You are quickly becoming a master modeler. Love the flying circus paint scheme. Quote

This is one with horrible fit issues Anyway, is the best Fokker D VII that I found, it have many more details than Airfix, by example. While Roden does have quality and fit issues, the actual detail on their 1/72 aircraft is really quite good. Anyway, looking forwards to your next model! Quote
HWR MKII Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Nicely done. Your turning into a modeling machine like HWR Nah he is just gearing up fr the Spartan. I usually finish a moscato kit well before he even gets his I think he is going to try to beat me this time. Excellent work on the biplane. its the last macross aircraft anone thought they would see a model of. Quote
Gabe Q Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 You might see some copycat models down the road. I'm talking about me, mainly. What a great build... Quote
warpaint22 Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 That's a nice model cool8or good to see someone else models more than just the valk's. You did a nice job, I built this model for a customer at the start of last year out of the roden kit, turned out beautiful as your's has. I'll have to get him to send me some pic's of the collection I've built for him over the past 12 months, I think he stands at about 28 macross models I've supplied, but I'm starting to lose count. I know I've built 58 macross kits for customers and 7 kit's for myself in 2007 and it looks like it's going to be a bigger year this year. Great as always work keep it up. Quote
cool8or Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 Nah he I usually finish a moscato kit well before he even gets his Hahaha You're right! Also, you are one of the best builders on this board, I consider myself a beginner yet. 2007 was a hard year, building day after day... I am obviously slower than many of you: A model take me to finish 1 month aprox. Anyway, thanks for your words guys! I built this model for a customer You built a Fokker D VII with Roy Focker color scheme? Quote
neptunesurvey Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Interesting idea and nice work. I did not know that was the model that Focker was flying. Quote
warpaint22 Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 (edited) Anyway, thanks for your words guys! You built a Fokker D VII with Roy Focker color scheme? Yeah my main customer last year was a huge Robotech fan and wanted the Fokker D for something different and also it's a model disregarded by most fans, but it was a lot of fun, but yeah it looks almost the same as yours but I moded the kit to have the open intake above the prop and extended the exhaust, thinking of it now I changed quite a bit of the model to get it to look like the line art. I beleave him and I are now just missing the Dragon II but I plan to scratchbuild a couple this year. I've also done a lot of F-14's in macross markings and they seem to be the latest thing for my customers this year, everyone want's a Macross "Jolly Roger" F-14 it seems this year. MechTech Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 That's fantastic, even so far. VERY original and a nice break from the Valks (as much as I love them). - MT Quote
Valkyrie addict Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 that's a reall good job there mate... very inspirational Quote
Nexx2 Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Very nice model kit, congratulation, I made a good word ! Quote
UN Spacy Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Now that's just beautiful. With all the VF's out there it's easy to forget about the planes in Macross that have the most sentimental value. This one just oozes love. Quote
honneamise Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Great to see this model built! I had the same idea some years ago but I must admit I have only bought two of the old Revell D-VII´s instead of the better Roden kit. Two because I wanted to do the red Hikaru version as well... but I never got started. Quote
Vile Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Very nice - did you ever get around to taking those 'dirtied-up' pictures? I'd love to see the final result. Quote
Peyoro Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Wooow I´m impressed with the gamma colors, almost exactly. It´s nice to see something more than valks. Quote
cool8or Posted March 21, 2010 Author Posted March 21, 2010 Due People demand, newer pictures of my Focker's Fokker: Quote
Grapeape Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 That is so amazing! Great work! As a fan of both Macross modeling AND WW1 modeling, it's....just.....beautiful. Quote
Getter 1 Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 That's beautiful I got several Roden WW1 birds but haven't built any of em yet. You plan on adding the riging wires? G1 Quote
Grapeape Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 So, hope you don't mind cool8or, I shared this posting link of your awesome build over at The Aerodrome WW1 modeling forum, just to see what the response would be. I think really got a kick out of it Quote
cool8or Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 No problem Grapeape! In fact I'm glad... which is that forum? Quote
Grapeape Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 No problem Grapeape! In fact I'm glad... which is that forum? The Aerodrome WW1 Aviation Website It's a LONG-running site with a very active form (see "forum" link on the main page) full of model builders ALMOST as obessed with WW1 aviation as we are with Macross here! arbit Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Planning to build the Fokker D.VII Albatros single-seater. Any comments from you WWI specialists if this is the right version flown by Roy and Hikaru? There was a two-seater, and an OAW version of the Fokker D.VII as well. Quote
NZEOD Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 (edited) Yep, thats the one he flies in the circus, the D.VII, just minus the guns Edited December 13, 2016 by NZEOD Quote
arbit Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 (edited) Awesome! Just a simple build. Nothing special. But wait... I can add signal lights. And a motor for the propeller. And photo-etched parts. And... I am so psyched! My dad introduced me to my first models as a young teen in the 80's with the balsa wood Fokker aircraft. I built dozens of them. They are the type with ribs and you spread the thin paper, then wet it so it stretches across the frame. They look great. I was already a Macross addict, but didn't know the connection. I have half a mind to build a balsa model instead. Edited December 14, 2016 by arbit Quote
