TehPW Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Well less than 2 months for Macross F... great I agree that the VF-11 and the Vf-4 are too old to appear in Macross F but in Macross Seven the VF-1J Millia type was too old and it appeared... so I hope in Macross F we could watch them but I know that is pretty dificult to happen... BTW I am pretty sure that we are going to see a new versions of the VF-19 and the VF-22, I just a feeling I have Maybes, maybes Not. Think about this. Why did we even see SDFM mecha in M7? From what i've read and seen of the series, the mecha was owned by retired UNS personnel, right? All those civilianized VF-1's and Destroids... thought i really doubt they would let a old 'Monster' Crew keep a fully functional HWR. Millia (and i suppose Max) kept thier VF-1J's under the same agreement, though fully functional (possibly up to date avionics or motors? pointly to speculate thier on such a silly series) because of thier political clout. mayhaps some MF citizens have demilled VF's of what ever flavor the TOY and MODEL makers might be willing to invest in? ....because remember, what we see is what they might MAKE, as a toy or model. Why did they update the VF-171 from a VF-17? perhaps the current owners of MF CAN'T USE previous Macross Cannonized designs as is, because the TOY or MODEL makers can't get the rights to use updated previous designs? it's been like 10-15 years, In Cannon from M7 (2045~6) to the current time line (2059) and only 2 designs previous between the VF-19 production run and VF-25? i'm tired. i'm sure i'm making a point but i'm too pooped to think...
Zinjo Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 (edited) Good point. There would be merchandizing rights issues with toys in series other than SDFM and Mac7! So it is conceivable that we will see Mac 7 era fighters appearing in the show. Most likely the ones that sold the most for Bandai back in the 90's when Mac 7 first aired. So we may well see a VF-19P, VF-17's and maybe even some VF-22's, but at this point it is really all just speculation as to which old fighters we'll see if any. If Frontier follows the merchandizing roadmap of Mac 7, Bandai will probably insist on at least 3 types of variable fighters for merchandising and it appears we have that already. The VF-171, VF-25, VF-?? and Koenig Variable Monster (though it will be interesting to see how bandai markets that one, since Yamato already has a toy out for it). Edited February 11, 2008 by Zinjo

wolfx Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Based on ANN's report, the bad guys are called Vajra Nemesis. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-...s-grand-opening
MisaForever Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Hmm, so her name is Cathy Glass. Interesting...

RichterX Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Any one seen a subtitled trailer for Episode 2? I was watching with subs in spanish. They called Aruto Art like it being short for Arthur?
Duke Togo Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Correction: Their nemesis is Vajra, not Vajra Nemesis. Why does Vajra sound familiar?
Duke Togo Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Weapons: Beam cannon, head lasers, gunpod. Beam cannon... Mmmmmmm
Zinjo Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Why does Vajra sound familiar? It's been discussed before... I don't recall which thread though.
azrael Posted February 13, 2008 Author Posted February 13, 2008 It was mentioned in one of the archived threads, in reference to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vajra
Zinjo Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Love the Armor pack. It is a hybrid of the fast packs and the GBP!
1/1 LowViz Lurker Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 (edited) Pretty cool. So the vf-171 is a cannon fodder then? Doesn't seem as menacing now as it did in macross 7 as the vf-17 Nightmare (which sounded intimidating ) Anyone piloting a vf-171 will probably die a horrible death like the brownies and vf-11 pilots. So if the vf-25 is the hero mecha, will there be something like an upgrade to that mecha like how the VF-1 got its FAST pack in SDF:M as the upgrade, I wonder? (something like a FP v2 or something?) So we got knives, beam cannon, and special powered exosuits: no sign of dr. chiba style sound weapons yet...phew! Edited February 13, 2008 by 1/1 LowViz Lurker
Macross007 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Anyone piloting a vf-171 will probably die a horrible death like the brownies and vf-11 pilots. The Macross ''Star Trek red shirt syndrome'' it's called.
Mr March Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 And mecha stats. Needs a better translation. Lots of updates to the MF website. Yummy! *gobble, gobble*
ChrisG Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 I'm not surprised that it turned out to be Vajra. But here's my question (which may have been covered in another thread): does the name "Vajra" refer to the insect-ish mecha units, or the faction/alien race?

But here's my question (which may have been covered in another thread): does the name "Vajra" refer to the insect-ish mecha units, or the faction/alien race? That hasn't been made completely clear. It only lists it as "Small" for the small hammer-head ones and "Large" for the big red guys.
Graham Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 It's great that the official site has been updated, although I'd like to see more in the way or hard stats for the mecha, especially exact weapon loadouts and engine thrust. Seems there's no mention of pinpoint barriers, wonder if they have them? Some more VF-171 pics would have been nice as well. Thought I'd snag the pics from the official site and post them here. Graham

Graham Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 I really hope we get some clear shots of the back of the VF-25 battroid soon. I really want to get a better look at exactly how the back plate and wings are positioned. Graham
Graham Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Beam cannon... Mmmmmmm Possibly referring to the hip/wing root guns on the VF-25. Graham
Mr March Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Damn lousy background. They just HAD to put these beautiful pictures against a lousy background that can't be deleted easily with the magic wand. *grrrr* Oh well, I guess cleaning the pictures the hard way will make it all worthwhile in the end. Finally, some Macross Frontier profiles for me site

Mr March Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 We're almost there my friend. The new server is up and I've got FTP access. When I've finished uploading the whole site and I'm ready to roll, you know where I'll post
wolfx Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Seems Kawamori is back to his hindu/buddhism stuff as seen in Aquarion....prana and what not. But seems the VF-25 Alto version and Ozma version do not have a differentiating designation, except those japanese words in brackets. Anyone know what it means? Commander unit?

Just means normal, same for both. Probably to distinguish between the vanilla valks and the super ver. =)
Morpheus Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 (edited) No info yet on the Elint VF-171? Graham Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 I'm sure that letter designations for the VF-25 and VF-171 will all be revealed in good time, as will full stats. Graham
kensei Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 That hasn't been made completely clear. It only lists it as "Small" for the small hammer-head ones and "Large" for the big red guys. Dunno if this is of any significance, but my bet is Vajra is a weapon. Why? The Vajra used to be a religious artifact, but from my understanding, when I read "Secrets of the Samurai - The Martial Arts of Feudal Japan" by Adele Westbrook and Oscar Ratti, they described the Vajra as more of a weapon, highly favoured by Buddhist monks. The Vajra itself underwent many modifications, not just aesthetic, but practicality, as it was used to deflect and parry weapons, especially snapping sword blades. Having said that though, the writers could have just thought that it was a cool name to use, and might not relate to it being a weapon at all.
Duke Togo Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Going by Hindu mythology, Varja seems to be a weapon of the gods.
