Blaine23 Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 Excellent work - And a very original project, to boot. Keep up the great work! Quote
Kishimoto Posted October 23, 2003 Author Posted October 23, 2003 How much to build me one ? I really can't put a price on this yet. And as far as building another, that would take a long time. I would have to find the material once again to even start and not to mention another SDF-1. Thanks for your interest though. I{ishimoto Quote
pfunk Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 Nice work man, i need a better work area, that looks awesome Quote

madmacks Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 (edited) Not bad... But it'd look a lot better if it wasn't made of cardboard. I think the same way. Since your skills are pretty good with just cardboard I wonder how they would look in styrene, balsa wood, vacume formed, sculpey or resin recasted pieces... post more pics.... not everyone has those luxuries. i think its not a matter of preference but a matter of affordability/convenience... great work kishimoto! Zentrandude Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 very cool. but i keep getting a feeling like you used toliet paper tubes for some of the ship. Not insult btw Quote
Kishimoto Posted October 24, 2003 Author Posted October 24, 2003 very cool. but i keep getting a feeling like you used toliet paper tubes for some of the ship. Not insult btw If you're talking about my SDF-3, I'm afraid you're wrong. No toilet paper rolls there. The Arcadia though has paper towel rolls as thrusters. I{ishimoto Quote

1st Border Red Devil Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 Hey.....wanted tell ya nice job on the SDF-3. Ya ought to make one of the escort vessels that was supposed to be with the SDF-3 (they have a similar shape)...that way you can have a small flotilla. Quote
gnollman Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 Very cool... I think I'm one of the few peole to like Sentinels... Sure, the anime test run sucked, but the novels are much, much better.... Quote
gnollman Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 Hey First Border Devil... where did you get that picture? Sweet..... Never seen it before.... Quote
1st Border Red Devil Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 Its from the animation materials for Robotech II: The Sentinels. That particular copy is from the Unofficial Robotech Reference Guide. The designation for it from the animation materials is the SDF-8 class ship. Unlikely that it will ever be seen again...though it could be used as an enemy ship if they ever decide to revisit the Pioneer Mission era again. Quote
SDFcommander Posted October 29, 2003 Posted October 29, 2003 Kishimoto, VERY IMPRESSIVE I had no idea that the SDF-3 was so much bigger than the SDF-1. You have skills man! Thanks for sharing. I sure hope they use that ship design in the upcoming series. Also, please post some pics of your Arcadia too. How long did it take you to make it? Quote

You think that is cool, wait till you see my upcoming custom that I'm working on now! I'm not sure that this is the official size for the SDF3, but it looks about right to me. I'll try posting more pictures of my Arcadia later on. I{ishimoto Quote
muswp1 Posted October 31, 2003 Posted October 31, 2003 Both of those ships look great, just one question, what kind of paint did you use for the SDF-3?? Quote

Vespaeda Posted October 31, 2003 Posted October 31, 2003 Just stumbled into this thread Kishimoto and I just have to say FAN-bloody-TASTIC work! I am impressed by the fact that you used cardboard and did it quite neatly and took advantages of its strength & versatility to achieve a fairly professional look. I was always dissappointed the Sentinels series ended up being half-baked & unfinished. Enjoyed RT universe for what it was. Great detail and neat texture effect! Personally impressed because it is my favorite building material for my models and I have spent several years developing methods of using it and getting away from the "1st grade diorama/halloween-costume-from-supermarket-boxes" look corrugated material tends to have. Desk weight resins & expensive FG are overrated for all but serious guys with studios/labs or media production co.s. There has to be a satisfying methodology for us 'average joes'! I really like the other green version of the SDF-3 also, and your Arcadia. Unfortunately, I am currently "all talk & no rock"as far as customs go; I'm busy in the Navy and w/ a new family(I'm 37). Can I PM you about cardboard modelling?(You're only the 4th person I ever met who explores the possibilities of quality crdbd construction & transcending the stereotype!) Congrats & keep goin!
