David Hingtgen Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Initial thought: Same problem as Van Helsing. It's half serious, and half cartoony. (I mean that in every sense of the word) Quote
Excillon Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Thanks for the link. But man that looks stupid. Quote
jenius Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I'm glad it's more of a reimagining than an attempt to be faithful to the cartoon. Quote
areaseven Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Didn't we have a thread about this already? http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=21952 Quote
chowyunskinny Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Didn't we have a thread about this already? http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=21952 You are correct. But I didn't see any posts from you in the old one with your Dreamcast of Porn Stars so I decided to create a new one so you could have your chance Quote
Keith Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I don't even know what to say about that but wow....I hope the actual movie is absolutely nothing like that trailer Quote
ShadowerV2 Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I liked it. I mean it's based on a cartoon. Can't really say much more about that. Quote
JsARCLIGHT Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I've said it before and I'll say it again... some cartoons simply should not be made into movies. I liked speed racer as a kid and I still like it today for it's campy goofiness but that trailer that I just saw gave me cancer. Seriously... it needs to be encased in concrete and pushed into the ocean for the sake of the children. I understand what they are trying to do but you just can't manufacture camp... camp just happens... and when you try too hard you get that trailer. It reminds me of that crap Thunderbirds movie they rolled out a while back and I have no doubt this one will go down in flames just the same. Quote
Metal_Massacre_79 Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Oh no, not another Spy Kids sequel!!!! Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Weird. Some anime should be left alone. Quote
Apollo Leader Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 No, Speed Racer, Noooooooooooooo! Quote
crasis Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 No, Speed Racer, Noooooooooooooo! I lol'd at that one. Quote
sabretooth Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 it looks like those hot wheels cg abortions that were on cartoon network for a while, that and willy wonka racing.... never really liked speed racer to begin with so Quote
Duke Togo Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Oooooo-K... You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Quote
reddsun1 Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Ugh. This movie's gonna stink worse than that chimp's sweaty, dung-stained arse... Quote
Jolly Rogers Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Looks like the bastard child of McG + Katamari Damacy + sugarrush induced Japanese commercials. The scary part is it might 'inspire' a new generation of filmmakers. Quote
mikeszekely Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I just threw up a little in my mouth. I don't mind a Speed Racer movie, but the races should look more like NASCAR and less like WipEout. Quote
Capt Hungry Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 There was something very Thunderbirds about it. Might be the sort of thing that I see when it's available on cable. Quote
Lindem Herz Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I guess that makes me the only person who actually liked the trailer. I gotta admit Christina Ricci looks horrible in that makeup, though, and I consider her pretty much the third hottest woman around. Quote
areaseven Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I'll wait until Fritz the Cat is remade into live-action. Quote
Duke Togo Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 This movie screams for a Rob Liefeld comic adaptation. Christina Ricci was hot before she started starving herself and turned into a twig. Quote

UN Spacy Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 ...sometime next year we'll all get a first look at the teaser for Robotech. Quote
lord_breetai Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 One of th Watchkowski siblings is transgendered? Cool, I didn't know that. Quote
Ishimaru Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 What the hell did you guys expect? Gangsters driving supped up cars and shooting each other with guns doing slow-mo action sequences ? Quote
ShadowerV2 Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 And Speed Racer saying... We need cars... lots of cars.. Quote
grss1982 Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 And Speed Racer saying... We need cars... lots of cars.. Speed Racer: Are you saying I can dodge bumps in the road? Racer-X: No. When your ready you won't have to. That was corny, right? :-) Quote
akt_m Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Why they did all the CGs look like toys??? They should have used real cars!!! Quote
ShadowerV2 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Speed Racer: Are you saying I can dodge bumps in the road? Racer-X: No. When your ready you won't have to. That was corny, right? :-) That was a good one. Quote
Chewie Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 (edited) I know I am one of few, but the trailer looked good for what it is. A super cheesy movie based on a even superer cheesier cartoon. Lemme guess, someone's childhood is currently being bent over? Lol Edited December 20, 2007 by Chewie Quote
protostar8 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I agree... too many of the curves have really been flattened out. My favorite rendition of the Mach 5 in 3D is the Club-M model. Then again I'm also a fan of the 1997 remake of Speed Racer so I would have been happy to see this one used as the movie car too... Carl I still can't find that 1997 show for purchase or download anywhere. I loved that rendition of the Mach V, I thought it honestly looked like the perfect update b/c it kept the sleek look and added a new-age tech flare to it. Quote
wwwmwww Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 (edited) I still can't find that 1997 show for purchase or download anywhere. I loved that rendition of the Mach V, I thought it honestly looked like the perfect update b/c it kept the sleek look and added a new-age tech flare to it. Well here is the info that I have... 34 episodes were aired in Japan in 1997 on TV Toyko. I’ve read that 37 episodes were made of the planned 52 episodes. 12 episodes were dubbed by DiC Entertainment and aired on Nickelodeon in 2002 as “Speed Racer X”. There is also one episode in English on this: http://www.amazon.com/Speed-Racer-Ultimate...n/dp/B000G1GGH4 Where it is called “Speed Racer Y2K”. You may also want to check out my 2 YouTube videos. http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=wwwmwww Neither the original 1997 Mach GoGoGo series nor any of the Speed Racer versions made from it have been released on DVD. However I was able to get the US-televised episodes of the 2002 series on 3 dvds from this site: http://www.warlockvideos.com/ They aren't listed on the site but email them and I think they should be able to help you. I've also had a few contacts that taped a few episodes directly off TV Toyko so I think I have 4 episodes as they were originally aired in Japanese. I'd LOVE to get all 34 (or 37) but that's all I've been able to find at the moment. There is some more info on the series here. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...ime.php?id=1445 Carl Edited December 20, 2007 by wwwmwww Quote
