boinger Posted June 29, 2010 Author Posted June 29, 2010 (edited) iMacross Crisis: This week Rapidshare has done some major changes to the way they charge for accounts. This rapidshare problem applies to Macross Share website, iMacross4 and Archive Scans. Today, I was put into a Medium Rapids account that only does 20 "Rapids" a day, 50 GB server space/month and 5 gb downloading/day (maybe?) for $26 CAN/month. That is a 100% price increase and a huge download restriction. All of a sudden I was given 21 "Rapids" for today and my Rapidshare premium account for iMacross4 will be closed tomorrow! Even though, I had registered my premium account for the next month?! http://rapidshare.com/news.html RapidMedium account: Per month $26 CAN 50 gb server space 20 Rapids/day take from account (1 gb of downloading = 5 rapids, potentially 4 gb downloading maximum/day. ***** It does not matter whether I actually download 4 gb/day, I still get 20 Rapids/day used up in my account and then I have to renew my acount!) I was able to delete enough files in my rapidshare account to get below the 50gb server space limit on the RapidMedium account that I am currently in. Then I converted a bunch of rapidshare premium and collector's into 621 Rapids. Temporarily switched over to a "Rapidbig" account to get a larger 200gb server space in order to prevent Rapidshare from randomly deleting files, which used up 58 "Rapids" within 5 minutes. So, I now have just 563 "Rapids"! Then I switched back to Rapidmedium account, since I would have to pay $64 to renew my account within the next week if I wanted to have a Rapidbig account. Rapidbig account: Per month $64 CAN 200 gb server space 78 Rapids/day Potentially 20 gb downloading/day I can't figure out how much I'm allowed to upload or download because everything is in terms of "Rapids". I don't see when my account is due for registration renewal and I read I now have only 5 gb download per day restriction. What a bunch of BS! ******************************** I might have to abandon Rapidshare completely due to the high cost and bandwidth restrictions. Megauploads might be an option. Any other suggestions? ********** (edited heavily, since I'm still trying to figure out what Rapidshare is doing. This is so confusing!) Edited June 30, 2010 by boinger Quote

Any other suggestions? ********** (edited heavily, since I'm still trying to figure out what Rapidshare is doing. This is so confusing!) Yeah, this does not look good for us. I've got separate hosting through an associate so at most Archive Scans will be losing a file mirror. Somehow my RS account ended up with enough of these 'Rapid' things to run for an additional 10 days, after that I'll probably be dropping them. Is it just me or has RS been going steadily downhill for the last 6 months? Quote
Seto Kaiba Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Is it just me or has RS been going steadily downhill for the last 6 months? It's not just you... part of the reason I decided not to renew my account when it came up for renewal a few months ago was the steady decline in the quality of their service. They seem to have been cutting back for a while now. I guess the prevalence of ad-blockers and rising bandwidth usage finally started to get to them. I can't say you'll have any better luck with their competitors, since I've heard a lot of noise about MegaUpload's pop-up ad windows and the banner ads on MediaFire being detected as malware by several antivirus programs. Quote
boinger Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 (edited) So far, I've been looking at MegaUpload and Mediafire for replacement homes for iMacross4. Megaupload $20 per 3 months to minimize adverts and easier up/downloading. I tried Megaload once last year and found the uploading/downloading and file management software to be barely usable. Maybe, I would use the free Unlimited uploads for temporary large files? Mediafire $20 per month, no adverts, 250 gb would be just enough for most of iMacross4, but not quite enough for LD preservations or Macross Fan Edits. I watched the Mediafire video demo and it looks to be what I would like. Yesterday, I sent an email to Rapidshare to tell them how disappointed I am with the current Rapids method. Hopefully, a few thousand other people send Rapidshare emails and close their accounts to push Rapidshare back to what it was last year. I still find Rapidshare very handy for faneditforum website. I have almost a month left (543 Rapids) for Rapidshare, so that gives me some time to think about what to do next. Edited July 1, 2010 by boinger Quote

boinger Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 I'm not sure what to do. Corrupted Vista64 C: hard drive cannot be accessed by xp 32bit on my mini hp laptop to back up onto DVD-R discs. Does any one know if I do an installation of vista64 over the current damaged vista64, then do I erase all the files under my documents and on desktop? Or maybe, I could buy a new hard drive and install vista64 on it, so that I could try to get this corrupted vista64 hard drive accessible? I have a 100+ gb of Macross video files and pictures and other stuff that I didn't want to lose and I was backing up files this week, too. Quote
Seto Kaiba Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Corrupted Vista64 C: hard drive cannot be accessed by xp 32bit on my mini hp laptop to back up onto DVD-R discs. Hmmm... it depends on what did in the disk. If it's a failure of the disk surface then you might be boned, but if it's just a failure of the file system then you might be able to salvage it using the repair tool on the Windows Anytime Upgrade CD that came with most new Windows Vista machines (and also normal Vista install CDs). Quote
boinger Posted August 21, 2010 Author Posted August 21, 2010 Good news! It looks like I'll be able to copy over the vista64 files over to the new hard drive. The administrator ownership of the C: went missing and lost its ability to boot up. I suppose that was because I was changing around the ownership permissions to get some programs (like Womble, etc) to properly run and install. I am currently getting the ownership for all the files on this hard drive to transfer the files onto the new hard drive. Then I'm likely to do an upgrade to Windows 7 and use the old hard drive for storage back ups. Well, I was planning to get another hard drive and upgrade to Windows 7, but I just have to do it the hard way. Quote

boinger Posted October 2, 2010 Author Posted October 2, 2010 (edited) Rapidshare has updated its software again.Almost all the iMacross4 files have been removed from theseparate rapidshare folders or deleted. Currently, the only Macross files in theright folders are in the SDF TV remastered folder.300 out of the original 1000+ files on iMacross4 are still available, butjust as list of files on Rapid share, but not in the right folders.Either I upload the 1000 + files and put them back intofolders the way I had them or just post therapid share weblinks directly to the iMacross server FAQ thread.Macross Share website has reportedly survived intact with a fewrapidshare weblinks lost. Maybe, it was due to the password protectionon the Macross files or that the files were posted as weblinks orthe Macross Share is a publicly accessible website.Either I try to get a hold of (requested deletion) of Macross Share and worktogether to update the Macross Share website, ordo the long process of getting iMacross4 back up to dateorjust keep iMacross4 for special projects. So, one easy file to download from Macross Share loads up all the rapidshareweblinks into jDownloader.I have a bunch of Macross files to get sorted first. Then I'll go through Macross Share postings to check for missing weblinks, create DLC filesand upload a whole bunch of Macross files as I go along.Comments and suggestions can be posted on the Macross Share forumor you can pm me on the MW or Macross Share forum. Renato Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 (edited) That's a long list of stuff I've always wanted. Like Mylene Graduation. I do have a couple of things I may be able to help with, though. Firstly, Macross 7 Let's Reveal the Galaxy's Heart!! is a Gameboy Color game, and can easily be found online using ROM searching sites. As for the Macross Furoku Art books, I have a couple laying around. When I have time I will scan them. Is that the complete list, though? I notice that at least the "Macross Dictionary" is not on there, but I don't remember seeing it in Macrosshare. I don't have that one, though, it's in London, sorry. Lastly, with regard to the Macross 7: English Anticipation manga: Macross 7 Fire Bomber American Album Release Commemorative Comic, as far as I can tell "Anime V" had by that point already transformed into "Looker" magazine, so I'm not even sure if that issue even exists. I'm very slowly piecing together the history of these magazines, though, so bear with me for a while. EDIT -- One more thing. The Macross Ace Frontier UMD movie doesn't exist. You may be thinking of the recent "Macross Triangle Frontier Itsuwari no Utahime Special Pack". That comes with the game UMD and two extra video UMDs. One of those is the MacF movie itself, and the other is the extra stuff, which is probably the one you want. Edited May 9, 2011 by Renato Quote
boinger Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 (edited) Thank you Renato for pointing out that Gameboy Macross 7 Reveal the galaxy's heart is already available on Macrosshare! I try to keep the Macross files organized. I thought that there was a Macross video on Macross Ace Frontier, since there was one UMD video on Macross Ultimate Frontier. On wikipedia, it says that the Ace Frontier UMD movies were just the openings and endings of the series plus a Kawamori interview. I wonder if the openings and endings on the Ace Frontier UMD were credit-less? If someone knows for sure that the Frontier series openings and endings are credit-less, then Hikuro would like to know for his Frontier anime dubbing project. Also, I went over to the old Macross Compendium website and copied over some more information for the Macross games onto the Macrosshare request list. See above post for updated request list. I would prefer to find the PC CD-rom games or a computer file that could be played on a game emulator. Maybe, if someone had one of those older handheld Macross games, then s/he could do a video review and upload to youtube. That would be cool! If anyone has already scanned some older Macross material and would like to share, then you can send me a pm or TwinkiePlatter of Archive Scans. For the last 6 months, I have been working on collecting the older out of print Macross magazines and furoku for Macrosshare. It's going to take a long while to get them posted up though. I've been holding off posting new Macross Frontier items (e.g Trial Frontier) on Macrosshare because most of these items are still readily available. Edited May 10, 2011 by boinger Quote

Love it. As I said in the PM -- I repeat it here for the benefit of all reading -- there was never a UMD movie disc with Ace Frontier. That is a mistake, they are confusing it with Ultimate Frontier. frothymug Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 I've spent the last few days taking the Macross Zero raws on the server and repackaging them with subtitles as a single file. I just decided to tinker with them as a time-waster and made some progress. I've been considering adjusting the subs, correcting spelling and grammar errors, correcting nomenclature, timing, etc... Is this something that would be a good idea to post on the macrosshare website, or do you just prefer to have the raws available and let people run the subs on their own? Also, would it be a good idea to link to a codec pack that handles matroska files well? WMP and MPC don't really like to run them, unless you have the proper codecs. I downloaded the K-lite codec pack and it works like a charm. Quote

boinger Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 Macrosshare Update: MegaUpload has just been taken offline pending a criminal court case in the USA ! http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2012/01/megaupload-wasnt-just-for-pirates-angry-users-out-of-luck-for-now.ars So as of now, all of the Macrosshare megaupload links are non-functional ! Mediafire is USA based and Filesonic is no longer allowing public downloading. http://torrentfreak.com/filesonic-kills-file-sharing-after-megaupload-arrests-120122/ Currently, Macrosshare Rapidshare weblinks are still working. But if you have downloaded any of the Macrosshare Megaupload links, then I will need help to re-upload to MediaFire or to alternate file websites. Thank you! Quote
frothymug Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Perhaps it would be helpful to list some of the items whose links are now broken, so we can scrape up the files you need. Quote
