Keith Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I'm not sure it'd be possible for it to be her, considering Mac7 was a colonization fleet.. my general impression was that those kinda stayed out in space, unless they didn't find any place to settle. Now, if they didn't, and Mac7 eventually returned to Earth, I guess it's possible. She could have become a pop star there, and started traveling, but I think touring several interstellar fleets would be one hell of a trip. Personally, I think it'd be funnier if the fleet officer was actually the flower girl, and Sheryl was her younger sister (haven't checked the names recently, so don't know if that's possble or not). It's not like this fleet is newly launching from Earth either. Besides, it's not unheard of for individuals to leave their colony fleets for other planets/fleets, thati s afterall how Sheryl gets to the F fleet. With Fold, it's no biggie. As for the fleet officer, she & Sheryl may even be the same person, Sheryl/Sharon...hmm. We also don't know how long she's been with the F fleet, she could be a new transfer herself.
Chronocidal Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I'm pretty sure they're not the same person, since there's at least one picture of them walking past each other in one of the trailers. Different eye colors as well. Speaking of eyes though... are they so far in the future that most people have developed square pupils?
Zinjo Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Speaking of eyes though... are they so far in the future that most people have developed square pupils? Unfortunately, Yes.... Its a result of flying with musical instruments as controls....
RDClip Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 This 'no UN Spacy' thing could turn out to be pretty interesting. Seems that the colonies may have become more independent since M7. Would be a little cliche, but it could end up being Macross Frontier Fleet VS UN Spacy.
Chronocidal Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I really hope this doesn't turn into some thing where they discover the bugs to be semi-intelligent, the UN Spacy wants to wipe em out, and the colonists want to protect them. I could probably deal with that though.. just as long as no one is flying and singing at the same time. Fortunately so far, all the ships we've seen have been armed with real weapons, not rocket-powered subwoofers.
Zinjo Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 The nature of the bio-mecha is going to be the enigma that will be revealed through out the series I'm sure. What sub-plots outside the love triangle aren't really clear and won't be until the show begins to air.
lechuck Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 VF-25: First liked, then hated (long nose, hate SV-51), now liked. Currently liking both of the blonds. Don't know why but they sort of have Misa vibe to them. Can't warm up to the green haired one. If she were drawn a bit older then maybe. I'm a bit confused. The love triangle is between blue haired guy, green haired girl and the blond singer right? So what role does the other blond girl have? Or are we in for a surprise and the love triangle might become a four way thing?
sketchley Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Darn it... posted earlier in the day but it appears that it got eatten somewhere after pressing "add reply." Try 2: Private Military Force could also be translated as Civilian Military Corps/Unit. The political economy in Macross is definitely not the Laissez-faire Capitalist economy of the USA (a version of a Market Economy). Take into consideration the source country Japan (a Mixed Economy) and the situation post SWI in series (a Planned Economy, most likely Communist). From that basis point, Macross appears to have gone to something very similar to the Japanese economy circa 1994-5, Macross F is most likely a continuation of that. However, logical considered, the Macross economy is most likely a Market Socialism, in that within a colony fleet, there are finite resources to be exploited for profit (thus a strong incentive to not go the route of capitalism) in addition to social services (medical, educational, etc.) available to all. Therefore, in a situation like that, in addition to the uber manufacturing technology made available from the Captured Factory Satellite, costs are low, relative to wages and the cost of living. Inflation, in it's current form in the real world is most likely non-existant. (No reliance on fossil fuels and the economy being largely closed in individual colony fleets.) Anyhow, that is all supposition based on the available information, and I am curious if differing colony fleets and planets in Macross conform to one galactic currency (the yen ) or if each and every one has their own currency (Eden Euros anyone?) Anyhow, at least at the shop that I went to, the January Issue of Newtype is avaiable (yes, on the 8th!) At first glance it looks like there is only that two page article on Macross F (and glancing at that, it looks like that is mostly about the Macross 25th Anniversary Special show). More on the article later.
sketchley Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Looking a little closer at the text next to the VF-25, it says what I think means "based on the VF-24."
Graham Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Interesting, if correct. Now we just have to wait to see what exactly the VF-24 is like. Graham
sketchley Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I wouldn't start expecting the appearance of a VF-24. It may be akin to the VF-16 (or whatever it was) mentioned in the background of the VF-11 MAXL Kai. Having taken a closer look at it, I believe it says "having left" or possibly "diverging from" the VF-24, it developed. The rest of it is similar to what I translated last month, plus what is expected: lots of extra attachments for use in space combat (AKA Super Parts, FAST packs, and Full Armour.)
azrael Posted December 8, 2007 Author Posted December 8, 2007 Try 2: Private Military Force could also be translated as Civilian Military Corps/Unit. ...*snip* In other words, it's definitely NOT UN military, regardless of being a private or civil defense group. Still, where is the UN in all of this... I wouldn't start expecting the appearance of a VF-24. It may be akin to the VF-16 (or whatever it was) mentioned in the background of the VF-11 MAXL Kai. The VF-11MAXL Kai's engines were taken from the VF-16.
David Hingtgen Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I would love to see a VF-11MAXL. Especially if Mylene's MAXL Kai tagged along somehow.
Chronocidal Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 (edited) <darthvader>Noooooooo!</darthvader> As long as they redesign it to remove the speaker boobs, maybe... but I really hope they stay away from anatomically correct mechs this time. Hmm.. VF-24... Actually, that could fit with the VF-25 as a home-grown valk. Say the VF-24 is used by the UNG, but they don't want to manufacture them for all the fleets. So the fleets play with the design, and come up with their own variant. Could be similar to the relationship between the F-16 and the Japanese F-2. Almost identical designs, but with the F-2 being built independently, and with several changes in the design. Edited December 8, 2007 by Chronocidal
Sumdumgai Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I wouldn't mind seeing a non-kai VF-11MAXL, I'd be quite interested to see it. The VF-16 as well for that matter. Definitely interested in seeing this VF-24 that the VF-25 is based on.
Keith Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 It would be funny to see Mylene still chasing Basara & Gamlin though...
Zinjo Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 (edited) Hmm.. VF-24... Actually, that could fit with the VF-25 as a home-grown valk. Could be similar to the relationship between the F-16 and the Japanese F-2. Almost identical designs, but with the F-2 being built independently, and with several changes in the design. That is a fairly high probability. Considering the existence of the VF-5000 and other fighters designed as a cheap colonial defense fighters. The VF-25 is a "licensed" derivative of the Spacy VF-24 and the VF-171 could be a "licensed" derivative of the VF-17. These fighters were not built by the military contractor who builds the Spacy VF-24, but built by different contractors with "licensed" designs. This is very similar in concept to the real world relationship between the General Dynamics F-16 and the Mitsubishi F-2. Edited December 9, 2007 by Zinjo
badboy00z Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 OT: Where do I find pictures of VF-1 to VF-24? I know there are VF-1,2, 4, 9, 11, 17, 19, 22. Are the ones in between only mentioned but didn't get screen time/ concept arts drawn?

azrael Posted December 9, 2007 Author Posted December 9, 2007 Chances are, we will not see the VF-24. It appears to be just a design note as opposed to an actual fighter. Many VFs that are mentioned are never seen but are mentioned as design notes.
Keith Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Chances are it's not significantly different looking. Asthetic changes may be as minimal as those between the YF-21 & VF-22.
biggooftoybox Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I'd certainly love to see a "GBP-1s" version of armour for the VF25. Hope it comes out in toy form, something playable.
kensei Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I'd certainly love to see a "GBP-1s" version of armour for the VF25. Hope it comes out in toy form, something playable. It's going to be nuts. Look at the bugger. It's friggin huge AND transformable.
Duke Togo Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I'm not sure we haven't already seen it. Check out the 2nd commercial.
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 It's going to be nuts. Look at the bugger. It's friggin huge AND transformable. Its chock full of win
the white drew carey Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I don't know. One thing that bugs me about the VF-25 in battroid mode is that it looks too much like it's sucking in its gut. Is it having a mid-life crisis?
Chronocidal Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I think it's cause of the way it transforms.. the body folds in on itself several times, and the final configuration is all mounted at angles. In that sense, it really looks like the SV-51.

Mr March Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Damn, I love that VF-25 head unit. Very nice design.
eugimon Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 can't say I care much for the new head laser design. has a shirow/appleseed feel to them.

Graham Well boss, you may have to do some surgery on that magazine to produce a complete picture.... Damn, I love that VF-25 head unit. Very nice design. Yeah, the face that isn't a face. Very gundam like, but hey I can live with it better than the Sound Force fighters...
