misterryno Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Man this Rey version has so many issues. Nothing breaking but it keeps coming apart. I need to glue stuff together to make it more manageable. How's the Stick figure holding up???
EXO Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Asking again... how tall is the figure combined with the bike? about 4 inches. How's the Stick figure holding up??? a lot better.
drifand Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Oh yeah, the seat-notch on the CM's is useless. Skip it and the ride sits so much more naturally. :-) After a couple of turns I've kind of settled on displaying Ley in armor mode and Stick in rider mode... simply because Ley's beam gun doesn't hold-on well in bike and looks cooler in his hand. As for the rumors, that's just what they are. I'm as eager to hear different as soon as the goods turn up. 1/1 LowViz made a good suggestion though... maybe a separate set of larger wheels for the Megahouse bike would do the trick! Afterall, the toy isn't 'perfect transform'... we're used to option fists that cannot realistically retract into their arm-housings, so why not magically expanding wheels?
jenius Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Heh, I didn't even think to use the notch. Curse my following instructions! I tried it without the notch and it seemed pretty sloppy but that'd work fine for display purposes since you wouldn't be handling it. All pics are done including comparisons to every other ride armor toy made by Gakken and the review will go up this week.
UN Spacy Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 How far do you guys think Megahouse is into mass producing their Ride Armors? Isn't it a little too late to be making last minutes changes to the mold?

I always thought smaller boots would be better for any ride armor toys. Except the Beagle seems like it's designed to make the bike mode look good primarily.
drifand Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Yeah, slimmer boots would really help with rider mode, but you know we can't always have OMEGA PANTSâ„¢ for every magic-proportion toy. :-)

CoryHolmes Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 When were these pics taken/at what event? And off-topic, but this is what an Alpha/Beta hookup is supposed to look like
hutch Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 The pics above, with the MH Ride Armor, were taken at Toy Fair in NYC. Took place last weekend. Nice to see the Beta again, and the linkup looks BOSS as always. Just wish it had a date next to it and not "pending licensor approval"...
thankheaven Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Not to go off topic but while we are talking about Ride Armors i came across a Aoshima 1/12 Stick/Ley variable modelkit in a collectible store i was in a few days ago. I think this is the one: http://www.ehobbyland.com/IMAI/Aoshima-Mospeada-12.jpg How is this different from the IMAI 1/12 Ride armor kit, is it exactly the same ? http://www.ehobbyland.com/IMAI/IMAI-Mospeada-12.jpg http://www.ehobbyland.com/IMAI/Mospeada-12-Mospeada.jpg Is the aoshima version molded in color like the IMAI is ? Do you need to remove alot of parts in the transformation and i understand it has rubber tires ? Thanks for any answers
CoryHolmes Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I think it's just a re-issue of the IMAI kit. I had the VF-041 reissue kit and it was pretty good, though very fiddly. The only parts that came off to transform were the arm weapon module IIRC. I remember it being light and fragile, but that's probably just a by-product of a model kit being built by my clumsy, neanderthal hands.

Thanks, did you have to paint it or did the parts come colored like the gundam model kits ? Also does it have rubber wheels ?
CoryHolmes Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I think they came pre-moulded, but I decided to try a new painting technique anyway. And I do recall the tires as being rubber.
eriku Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 Well, this could be an interesting development: A finished Megahouse Cyclone/Mospaeda in the Toynami Toyfair display http://toyfair08.asmzine.com/gallery/toyna...s/IMG_0032.html You can see that's the MH box: http://www.megahobby.jp/special/scoop2.html Link to the gallery (thanks to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0) http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?s=&a...st&p=562533 I'd really like to know what that means. Why would Toynami display a MegaHouse product unless they have plans to release it domestically? Is it possible Toynami decided to scrap their own Ride Armor and just release the MegaHouse? Could that have anything to do with the rumored MegaHouse Ride Armor delay? Interesting indeed.
danth Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) Considering stick can't ride his bike, and the way the leg peices attach in armor mode, I'd call it far from perfect. I love my old gakkens to death, but calling them better than modern toys is silly. It was perfect in the sense that it didn't have parts breaking or falling off, everything lined up and snapped together tightly as intended, it's wheels could spin, it had tight joints, and it could hold the beam cannon. It was sturdy and it worked. Plus I paid only $30 for it new. And I had no problem getting Stig to ride ithe bike, although his fat legs did make it kind of goofy. Edited February 18, 2008 by danth
misterryno Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I just cancelled my pre-order for the MH's. I hope that it isn't as good as everyone thinks. I will be waiting a while till either the Beagel or Toynami come out or till I can afford an old school Gakken. I do still wanna see pics of these though whenever people get some.

Well that's one way to get me to buy the Toynami, but for some reason, I'm now afraid of the MH QC... Maybe I should just wait for the Beagle...
do not disturb Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 the ups and downs in this thread are friggin killing me. CM sucks, CM good, MH is awesome, MH has no decals so it sucks, tires are too small, MH might be distributed by toynami, i canceled my preorder, me too......WTF? whats a fanboy supposed to do now?
misterryno Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 i canceled my preorder, me too......WTF? You cancelled too??? You mean....I'm not.....alone???
do not disturb Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 You cancelled too??? You mean....I'm not.....alone??? nah, i haven't canceled mine yet. if i get confirmation that toynami is overseeing it or involved in anyway then i'll cancel it and wait to read some reviews. i'm willing to take the gamble if is a MH, but i'm not taking a gamble if toynami. the only toy they release that was good is the voltron but thats not saying much since it didn't have a single feature/gimmick. if they tried to make it with the features/gimmicks of the original ones, i'm pretty confident that they would've failed.
jenius Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Well that's one way to get me to buy the Toynami, but for some reason, I'm now afraid of the MH QC... We've been hearing lots of grumbling about MH QC already based on their other products. Seems like a Toynami/MH relationship might be a match made in heaven. Now, if MH makes a subpar product, you'll get two companies to hate for the price of one! We need someone to publish an interview that tells us what Toynami is doing with it. I think the most logical explanation is that they'd be distributing it and if that's the case we should all cancel our preorders and wait for the inevitably cheaper US version. Maybe some day Toynami will just be like Matchbox was for Robotech, make a few toys to fill niches but otherwise just act as the importer for toys other companies make.

CM sucks, CM good, MH is awesome, MH has no decals so it sucks, tires are too small, MH might be distributed by toynami, i canceled my preorder, me too......WTF? whats a fanboy supposed to do now? heh. you're telling me. I went thru this thread after getting mine and even I was back and forth on the CMs and MHs. I had a good experience with the Stick Ride Armor and was totally happy but the Rey figure is a mess! If the rumor is true, will it be in the masterpiece boxes? It may be premature but the Beagle look more masterpiece than the MH version.

I think that if Toynami released it domestically and wrapped it up in one of their Masterpiece boxes the price wouldn't be any cheaper. If they straight-up import it without any package changes then I would expect it to be a little cheaper, but probably not by much. It looks like that website made a mistake. The same website also put Hasbro's Transformers and Skelanimals stuffed animals under "Toynami." http://toyfair08.asmzine.com/gallery/toynami/index2.html Thanks for pointing that out, that would certainly explain the confusion. However, I still question why a Megahouse toy would be at the US Toyfair at all, since it's primarily a toy show for US-released products and MegaHouse doesn't, to my knowledge, have a US distributor. Diamond maybe?
bsu legato Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Megahouse by way of Toynami is an interesting new wrinkle. Is it possible that Toynami has recognized their own ineptitude, and canceled their own "cyclone" in favor of the MH version? Well, they can do whatever they want, but I'll still order one from HLJ (if they don't suck). It'll be a cold day in hell before Toynami sees another red cent from me. Just as long as the MH isn't produced in whatever chinese crap factory that slaps together the Toynami line, it'll already have the edge.

It may be premature but the Beagle look more masterpiece than the MH version. i read your review, it doesn't sound terrible but not too good either. i guess i'd consider picking up the Stick version but only if its the same price you got it for. i still think $60+ shipping is too much for what it is but $47.50 shipped doesn't seem as bad. and thanks for clearing up the MH/toynami connection oreillyrel. that would've been a deal breaker for sure. as far as the possible US distribution, it really doesn't matter cause its not like we'll see these in TRU/amazon or some other giant store. we'd still have to pick them up from some small stateside vendor and still pay the same amount.

jenius Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 It looks like that website made a mistake. The same website also put Hasbro's Transformers under "Toynami." http://toyfair08.asmzine.com/gallery/toynami/index2.html I don't think it's a mistake. There's clearly a picture of the "Aoshima" Legioss next to it. That's an MH product in the Toynami booth. I don't know what the deal is with their Transformers section but I know Toynami does do all sorts of cinematic statues (they had an Indiana Jones I remember gawking at once). The Bumble Bee head struck me as something that must be from that same line as the Indiana Jones but I'm not TF guy and maybe it is just an ASM mistake. I also don't think we'd see the MH repackaged at an MPC. First, we already know that Toynami worked on an MPC and that it did have diecast. The MH doesn't appear to have any diecast at all. Diecast is pretty much the MPC calling card. The scale is also wrong for something MPC, I'm sure they know they'd have to make it at least as large as the MPC Alpha. If I were going to guess, I'd go with just a distribution deal to fill that niche for people who complain everything MPC is way over-priced. It also would relieve Toynami from the pressure of making a Ride Armor toy of its own. As to the pricing, I think you guys are way off and there could be substantial savings. First, this deal would mean more production and fewer costs. It would also mean your shipping would be dropped WAY down. It also means that US dealers might eventually drop their prices. Remember MPCs retail for $79.99 but it's usually not very hard to find them for $49.99 after a few months. You hardly ever see that with a product not released domestically.
crasis Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Man this Rey version has so many issues. Nothing breaking but it keeps coming apart. I need to glue stuff together to make it more manageable. That's exactly my experience with my Stick figure. I'm afraid to take Rey out of the box.
crasis Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 It looks like that website made a mistake. The same website also put Hasbro's Transformers under "Toynami." http://toyfair08.asmzine.com/gallery/toynami/index2.html Those aren't Hasbro Transformers items, technically. They are PopBox Collectibles pieces, licensed by Hasbro. PopBox items are distributed by Toynami outside of Japan (which is why the Macross 1/6 scale figures have PopBox and Toynami logos on them). So, yes, it seems that the MH ride armors are being considered by Toynami for a US release. Hopefully they will be cheaper than importing, but I doubt it. I wonder what this means for the MasterPiece line?
1/1 LowViz Lurker Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 If they are cheaper I'll probably cave and buy from toynami. I wish toynami spent all their effort on QC and didn't release any new toys till they got the alpha perfect in some rerelease. (call it "anime colour" MPC and use the bright happy colours of the aoshima versions but with no problems )

The same website also put Hasbro's Transformers under "Toynami." http://toyfair08.asmzine.com/gallery/toynami/index2.html That's not the case here. You can see in the lower part of this pic of the MP Shadow Chronicles Alpha part of the Aoshima Legioss box and a tiny bit of the upper corner of the MH box (plus a sign that says Mospeada and Toynami's Futurama toys): http://toyfair08.asmzine.com/gallery/toyna...s/IMG_0031.html
Vermillion21 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Anyone know if the MH cyclone release delay is CONFIRMED and if so, by how long?? And Toynami distributing the MH cyclones in the US ... an interesting development indeed if true.
bsu legato Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Anyone know if the MH cyclone release delay is CONFIRMED and if so, by how long?? Has Toynami ever confirmed the release date in the first place?
