Hi all, I'm new here!

As the title suggests, I'm finally able to, after all these years to start my Macross collection.

Remembering Macross from when I was a kid, and finally able to buy them toys now......

Starting my collection with

1) VF 1S Roy (1/48) With Strike Parts

2) Vf 1J Hikaru (1/48) With Armoured Parts

3) VF 1J Max and Millia (1/48) With Super Parts

4) VF 1A Kakizaki (1/48)

5) VF 1A Cannon Fodder (1/48)

6) SDF 1

I'm just wondering..... am I missing anyone else from the (1/48) scale?

Thanks for looking!

That is a great start! I did the same thing as you a few months back and my first order of business was to get the stuff I remembered from the TV show when I was a kid. Looks to me like you have that covered pretty well.

The only thing I would say you should look into are the Zentrati Battle pods by Matchbox. They are about the right scale for 1/48, or at least display well and you can pick them up MISB for under $75 sometimes on evielbay.

Hey guys, guess who finally started his collection... ME!

Yeah! I finally purchased the Focker VF-1S at local internet store. I got tired of waiting for the HLJ guys so I just cancelled my order with them. Yes I paid a bit more for the valk but you know? It totally worth it 'cause the toy have all the fixes and looks great!

My brothers always make fun of me for buying macross stuff but when I came home with the valk they just got stunned and at the end they transformed it for me

Damn! now I can't wait for the fastpacks.

Hmmm, I'm kinda new to this "evilbay" stuff, I', actually holding off buying from em, lol.

Well, just the small collection I mentioned in the first post, that's gonna suck me dry for a while... lol

Hey guys I just posted some questions on the "what's wrong?" topic but it looks like no one cares about that topic anymore. I need help from the erpexrts! I love my valk but those little problems are pissing me of. Thanks for your help.

Ya know, I was all excited and everything, just waiting and drooling on getting my grubby lil' hands on my very first 1/48 VF-1. I managed to hold off my excitement, ya know just to keep it in the box and look at it....

Well, last night, it got the better of me and I open my 1S Roy, somehow..... I was expecting more ya know? I felt kinda let down by how plain it look. ( guess it's decal time!)

Took it out of the plastic tray to look it over, seems sturdy enough at first. Flipped open the instructions on how to transform the Valk, won't say the instructions are the best in the world, but it's simple enough to follow. (Good lord, how on earth did I play with the 1/55 Bandai ones when I was only 5 or 6??)

First off, in Fighter mode, the landing gear bay doors are wayyy too tight, just opening the doors gave me a heart attack, and I think the joint on the right rear side is off, the door does not open straight, kinda off center like (heart ache)

The front landing gear is too tight, (talk about a squeeze just to get the wheel out and in place!!)

Second thing, I think Yamato still has some QC issues, the left wing joint doesn't seem to sit very tightly, and it looks almost like the joint for the wing is warped, I checked the screw that was holding it in place, lo and behold, it wasn't screwed on straight, so it's not sitting flush in the joint. That I think is wat's causing the wing joint to be floppy, just pointing the Fighter nose down, the left wing will swing out on it's own, no issues with the right side.

On to Gerwalk, transforming was a heart stopping affair, didn't know how much force to use so took my time. Everything seemed well until I hit the "foot" part. Again the left "foot" doesn't extend out straight, off center to the right some. Might be the groove that guides it out is off or not holding the extention right. Right "foot" is ok.

On to the arms, (Damn! I got floppy shoulders!) can't even hold the Gunpod extended, tends to flop. (Sigh)

Left side again!!!! The hand on the left side is loose, cannot hold the Gunpod at all, Right side is a-OK. (I see a trend here, the left side ain't "right" after all) *ok so it's corny, I'm heart broken already, so humor me*

Looks ok so far in Gerwalk, standing has a bit of an issue, tends to wanna crash nose first. Maybe my legs weren't angled right.

Battroid mode seems the most stable, ( well considering that I have 2 1S "Roy", I might just keep thing one in Battroid mode) But again, with floppy shoulders and hands, not much action posing I can do here.

I'm sorry guys for ranting, (and not posting pictures, was kinda dissapointed so I transformed it back into Fighter to keep it back in the box.) It's just that, after so long, I think my expectations got the better of me, ya know? It just didn't seem to live up to what I had thought it might be. It's a cool toy, yes and I do like it, (flaws and all) but damn, This stuff's not cheap and I still got floppy parts and all, sigh......

I would most likely now, just get the ones mentioned in my first post, just so I'll have this little bit of my childhood to carry along with me, where ever I might be.

But, I don't think I'll get getting the rest of the Macross Valks from Zero or Plus or F, just doesn't seem that I'm getting for what I'm paying for.

I know some of you disagree, (actually, I KNOW some of you will) but this is just how I feel, I'm a little happy, yet a little sad. I'm glad I have it, don't get me wrong, just wished it wasn't wonky with so many issues.

Well coming from Yamato you have to know which issues of the toy to purchase. For example the VF-1S you bought might not have all the superior up to date fixes the later releases have. The Roy color VF-1S is being reissued again and I think it should include all of the fixes which are in that of the VF-1J's. However that's the problem with Yamato is if its your 1st time buying and without knowledge from these forums its that the releases you might pick up could have a lot of faults in them. Considering the valks you bought recently were the older versions with more QC problems its prone these things will have the QC defects. However all of the TV 1/48 valks and VF-1J releases are pretty damn solid and superior. In the end I'm sorry to hear you got the 1/48's with minor problems, but don't let that discourage you from buying other Yamato macross products.

As for buying any valks from the Zero or Plus line well again you have to know which one to buy. In both of these lines the ones with the fixes are the ones that come with some kind of extra like the YF-19 with fold booster or the VF-0S with ghost booster but of course the price is always much higher.

So I say good luck and I don't care what these guys say, but ramen for a couple months will drive a man crazy to get some DUCK!

That's the thing isn't it? I order my Valk's from HLJ, how do I tell them, I want the lastest re-issues and not the old stock?

Sigh, I only bought from HLJ because my local toy stores don't carry the 1S any more, maybe I'll have better luck next time. maybe.........

wow, reading that made me sad.

I actually was not impressed with my first 1/48 either. So I sold it. Then I got another one and now I wish that I had my first one again!

It does sound like yours has some issues but some of them may be able to be fixed. I know that after spending almost $200 on a figure (after shipping) that you expect a figure that does not need to be fixed.

When I got my first 1/48 I showed it to a friend and he was blown away. I told him that it cost me $150 and he said, "wow! I cant believe that they can make such a cool figure like that for so cheap!" and I was thinking, "Huh? I agonized for months before dropping a load like that on a toy! What do you mean so cheap?" but after thinking about it, it is quite incredible what yamato has done and the 1/48 sculpt is so beautiful.

I would imagine that if you can do the fixes, apply the stickers (or decals if you prefer) and do some cool poses that you will fall in love with it.

These things are not cheap and are an investment in time too but it can be lots of fun.

Worst comes to worst and you want to get rid of it then you can put it in the box and sell it on ebay for probably more than you bought it for! Even, open and displayed people get a decent dollar out of these on ebay.

Maybe you could do what I did and sell this one on ebay, with that money get a different one, and then want another VF-1S again.

BTW, I think that HLJ probably has the most current issue at most times of these. They do run out regularly and restock but I am not sure about this point. There are some sellers, very few, but some who know which release it is and advertise it.

Also it seems with some of the Yamato figures, that it is really the luck of the draw. I got a Vf-0A with good biceps and shoulders (although the feet are a little bit floppy but it still holds whatever pose I try). In fact all of my yamato macross figures are mostly free of major flaws but others will get ones with various problems.

Anyway, I am sure that you will do what is best for you.

My $0.02

I hope that my post didn't make you too sad, I know, it's the luck of the draw I suppose. And no, I won't be seeling it off on ebay or what not, I do love my toys. ( I'm lucky I bought 2 Roys, so hopefully the other one isn't too bad)

I was just..... well in a word, dissapointed and needed an outlet, and honestly, I don't think many people outside of Macross toy collectors' would understand how I felt.

But hey, it's all luck right? And not as if the world has end( or anything broke while I was fiddling with it)

May be I'll get a 1/55 "chunky monkey" for the heck of it, and see how it fares.

Posted (edited)

If you do open the second one then please post the differences between the two. I am curious.

BTW, You cant go wrong with chunky monkeys.

HELL NO you can't go wrong with the chunky's. THEY ARE MY FAV!!!!!!!!! Out of ANY Macross "collectible", the chunky is the LAST ONE I would EVER get rid of. Unless I had too many, I know I know there is no such thing as too many ^_^ . Anyways Malakite, I feel ya on the first 1/48 to own. My first was a 1/48 VF-1A Max, and I just thought that no matter how careful I was I would snap it in half. Now like Miriya I wish I still had him :( . Well, good luck to you on getting a good one my friend. Oh yes.....I told you I would get back to you about the Macross movies and show. I was able to watch the TV series and the first movie (DYRL) in english. I am watching Macross II Lovers Again now, and it is only in Japanese with English subtitles. I will let you know about Macross Zero when I get around to loading it into the DVD player.

Where did you get DYRL in English?

At my local anime store that is about to go out of business.

Posted
Hmmm, I'd actually prefer the "in Japanese with English subs type"

Cools, let me know ya? misterryno Thanks

That is an option as well.

Posted
misterryno,

does your local anime shop have any left?

a buddy of mine is seriously searching for one.

If the doors to that place are still open I will let you know. I am checking for Miriya and Malakite as well.

Haha, takes a while to buy only one a month, so this be my latest buy, I'm going slow I know...

Slow and steady is the way to go with the 1/48's, or you'll go broke for sure. BTW who are those LOVELY Ladies in your Avatar???
