Roy Focker Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I was going down memory lane. In other words reading some of the google archive posts from alt.fan Macross. I can't believe it has been 6 years since I started posting there. Some post go back even longer. When Macross World forums started I think half of us were from there. So, class reuion time who here besides me use to be from Alt. Fan Macross? Quote
Ratchet Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Jesus...I remember posting on the alt.robotech one for a while before I took the red pill. Quote
wolfx Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 hmmm....i think i only posted there 2-4 times before being redirected here about 3-4 years ago. Quote
Legioss Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I don't like looking at those old posts. It's embarrasing to see myself defending Harmony Gold. Looking back on it, I really can't figure out what I was thinking. It wasn't in line with any of my beliefs about anime. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I posted there many times. It was THE place to talk about the *Toycom* YF-19. Aberfoyle Spring Water! And the many names of "The Cat". Quote
Keith Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 (edited) 7 years? I remember posting at AFM nearly 10 years ago! (ok, maybe 9). I've calmed down a bit since then though, beware anyone who posted fanfics or HG crap though, because I would jump all over them. And then of course there was the great betrayal of George Sohn...soo many memories I think it actually took me a year or so after MW went up to finall come over, and by that time AFM dwindled down to 3 or 4 regular posters, i.e. it was dead. And I may be remembering this wrong, but isn't Duke Togo "The Cat"? Here's a good one http://groups.google.com/group/alt.fan.mac...6b9fe65e4fb310a This is making me want to track down CavScout & give him a big hug Edited October 18, 2007 by Keith Quote

mikeszekely Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Man, I must have come to Macross World immediately after it got started. I missed Alt Fan Macross thing, but I was a freshman or sophomore in college when I started posting, and I graduated over 5 years ago. I've calmed down a bit since then though, beware anyone who posted fanfics or HG crap though, because I would jump all over them. I remember you doing stuff like that, so you must have brought some of that to Macross World. I think we've all mellowed out since then... I think our souls are all a little crushed from all the childhood raping we've endured in the 21st century. Quote
Keith Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Now what ever happened to O.D., I remember he was pretty resistent to coming over here. Quote

You're just antagonizing us and getting off on the results. Woooppee. : the fans are too farting stupid to support and defend it. Now, I KNOW I like it, I don't need to defend it. Macross is cool too. So WHY on Earth can you accept the fact that some people enjoy Robotech more without calling them obscenities(sp?)? They can coexist. : that Robotech is a great show, so it must be you guys... you're too : farting stupid. You need to grow up kid. : >if : >you enjoy macross so much and hate RT so much stay in your own news group. : Who are you to tell people where to go? See? This is what I'm : talking about. Usenet is for everyone, despite whether : or not they agree with you. It has an epic feel to it that Macross lacks. Macross II was a joke (so how did the SDF-1 bridge float there? Magic?). Macross Plus rules, I loved that. Haven't seen Mac7, but I've never been much for the premise. Silly. Make a good kids show though. I really like DYRL's animation, but I just didn't like the Macross characters as much in it (Roy a male pig, Misa seemed weak, Exedore....oh, what the hell happened to him?). Cool animation...too many cultural differences to be enjoyable for most people. I liked it though. As for Minmei, the Robotech version is annoying (at least "Stagefright" was...mostly because they played it WAY too much). The other songs didn't sound that bad. The Macross Minmei had some good ones as well, but as a rule I'm just not a fan of J-Pop. It's kinda annoying too at times. : >or : >have you guys forgotten this is alt.tv.robotech : I think YOU'VE forgotten that this is usenet, a plave for sharing : ideas. You understand that much, don't you? I mean, if my batty : Peter Walker can understand it, then you certainly can. There's also a thing called nettiquette(sp?) were you don't go around yelling obscene crap. I has nothing to do with censorship, but everything to do with consideration for others. You can't seem to hold an argument without insulting others. : >I enjoy Robotech I enjoy Macross : I'm sure you also enjoy pork by-products. So farting what? There you go again... : >in fact discovering Robotech on CN has spawned a whole new interest for : >me for Japanese animation in fact if Im not right Macross wouldnt have been : >really discovered here hadnt it been for Robotech. : Don't you mean "Macross wouldn't have been discovered here without : Harmony Gold and Carl Macek"??? : And trust me... Macross would have been discovered in the U.S. without : Robotech's following. Many anime titles are discovered in the U.S. : with little or no support from an American company backing it. It would've been discovered, yeah. But your forgetting that alot of people who were kids at the time would've missed out on Anime AND the whole genre would probably be even a bigger niche that it still is now. Facts are facts, Robotech got alot of people interested in other (sometimes better) anime. Without it, I would've never bothered to explore it further and discover other, better shows. I'd just be another moron in America who thought animation was a kids only medium. : >This macroos vs Robotech : >debate war reminds me of the psxvsN64 war which also I get tired of hearing of : >actually those two debates can be tied together people can manage to enjoy : >Macross and Robotech just like people can manage to enjoy the great games on : >the psx and N64. : What the fart--? You've lost me, and probably 5/6 of the newsgroup. He's talking about the Nintendo64 vs the Playstation arguments that were all over the place a few years ago. What he's trying to say in a nutshell is "Can't we all coexist without killing each other". My god, Macross and Robotech Macross are both enjoyable. Some people like one over the other. I'm not going to flame you because you're passionate about Macross. I do think you're being inconsiderate to Robotech (Macross) fans. : >So why dont you macross only fans start learning some : >maturity and quit with your immature and put down posts against Robotech : How about YOU learning not only some maturity but some netiquette and : stop trying to censor opinions that do not necessarily agree with : yours. Who the fart do you think you are? People here aren't trying to censor anything. If you want to talk Macross, there's alt.fan.macross I believe. No one here wants to get flamed for defending Robotech. Face it, we're not going to convince you that Robotech Macross is better than Macross and you're not going to convince any of us that Macross is better than Robotech Macross. : >and : >let us Robotech fans talk about our favorite show (which this newsgroup was : >meant for Robotech). : No one is stopping you from talking about Robotech. Where the fart : did you get the idea that anyone was trying to stop you from talking : about Robotech? Are you that farted up or what? YOU'RE the one : trying to shut people up by saying that only positive things can be : posted about Robotech. You've got to learn to stop insulting people and stick to the arguement. You personally insult people and then get pissed when they scream at you. And then you hide behind the cry of "censorship, censorship!". Whatever. : >"lets get on with it" Roy Fokker-Robotech Macross series : How about this one: "You empty-headed tin can!" - Rick Hunter, : Robotech Macross series. : And, yes, that was meant for you. <sigh> -- I first started posting at this newsgroup way back in 1996? It was used over and over again. Like please expand on that answer. It remind me of those Apple Jacks commerical. Where you going by "Roy Focker" on AFM back then or something else? I started lurking on AFM during the summer or fall of 2000. The day after Thanksgiving 2000 I decided to create a Deja account so I could start posting on AFM and other newsgroups (this was right before Deja was swallowed up by Google). It was at that time that I chose "Apollo Leader" as my alias; it's funny how I use that name pretty much anywhere online to this very day. So just as I started to post on AFM, less then two weeks later Shawn launched the Macross World Forums. I continued to post to AFM on and off after that point, but I think my involvement with AFM ended completely by 2002. A few people I've know on here for much longer though. Keith I originally met during the last few months of 1999; we were both subscribed to Animeigo's Talk mailing list. I've been a customer of the Valkyrie Exchange since late 1999 so I've known Kevin Lam for that long too. Hard to believe it's been 8 years already since the announcement of Animeigo's Macross DVD boxset and Toycom/Yamato's Macross Plus toys and that I've known some of you guys for that long. Quote

YajimaTakashi Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 This was one of my first posts in the Macross/RT groups back in '98. I am surpriseed it was still there : To Mister Ackermans, It took me a while to read your comment about one of my EM's to Peter Walker, and I am replying to you in response to your accusations: 1) I am a MACROSS Fan, been one since 1982! Peter Walker is not my 'God'. I go about confronting him on a different level, than your bullshit responses. 2) If Walker thinks he is a GOD on Robotech, that his and your opinion! Don't try to preach this and that. The Robotech fans are tired of it! And it gives the Macross fans a bad rep!!! 3) You make me sick!!! Honestly all you do is insult people. If you want others to respect your nappy ass, why don't you send decent E-Mails. Instead of Chastizing everyone who doesn't think like you . 4) SO what if Walker knows alot about Robotech, I know alot about the original Macross and its sequels, does that make me a God on the subject! No. I just found out alot by getting the information on my own. 5) If some people want to think of Peter Walker as a God, go ahead! I don't agree with that opinion, I don't worship him, and he may insult the Macross Otaku until monkeys fly out of his ass. But cussing him out, and saying poo to him, is not the way to go. You argue by peaceful means. Not by saying stupid poo!!!! I am tired of people like you giving the Macross fans a bad rep, and the pissing the Robotech fans off. If Walker wants to sit on a high and mighty Pedestal. That is fine and dandy with him. If he thinks Macross is Crap. Fine with me. He can say Hitler was a good man for all I care, but your BS. Just pisses me off. All you do is come back with small responses. Macross is Macross. And I like all the Macross series, and so on. Robotech is Robotech. And the American Public remembers Robotech. Let Walker think what he wants to. I won't lose sleep over it. Thomas Delgado. Oihan Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Well, those of you on AFM showed me the light. It was my love of the Valkyrie and the story of Macross TV (that I found in Robotech) that led me to Macross II...which eventually led me to AFM...and eventually to MW. Quote

Jeff J Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Hi, sorry for bumping a year old thread, but my quest of the weekend was to relive the old AFM roots. Name's Jeff. Last name Jhee. Some of you might recall me. Hadn't done anything anime related in about 5 years until I started watching again this past year, including the highly entertaining Frontier. Reminded me of the good old days, and man, they were really good. Probably don't have the time and energy to be such the fanatic that I once was, but this weekend I wanted to experience the good old days. You know, when the Zentradi's leader was officially named Gorg Bodolzaa, as opposed to what it is now. Isn't the funny, you go away for five years, and a fictional character's official spelling of his name changes? Anyway, if any of you would like to, please send me a PM. I would like to hear from you guys. Quote
