From experience, i find it next to impossible voting for any series that's 'too recent', especially in film or TV. Thus, most of my favourites tend to come from at least 5 to 10 years' vintage. I know for sure I have enjoyed the titles below multiple times over the years. :-)

Literary SF

1. Iain M. Banks' 'Culture' series

2. Frank Herbert's 'Dune' epic

3. Philip K. Dick's 'Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said'

TV /Movie SF

1. Blade Runner

2. Gattaca

3. eXistenZ

Manga SF

1. Yukito Kishiro's 'GUNNM: Battle Angel Alita'

2. Otomo's 'AKIRA'

3. Shirow Masamune's 'APPLESEED'

Anime SF

1. Patlabor The Movie 2

2. Macross PLUS

3. Laputa: Castle in the Sky

Just pick one? WTF? That's like gee lets pick one food I like and have it every day?

Also, you forgot to add Ghost in the Shell. There are way too many Sci-Fi shows.

As the poll mentions series, I'm presuming this should be restricted to TV series, not movie trilogies or OVAs right?

And also to be fair, this poll should really be divided between the following categories IMO: -

3) Western cartoon TV Sci Fi Series (e.g. Err.....help me out here guys).

Graham

Apparently Grahams never heard of The Clangers...

I'm assuming we're discounting Japanese-inspired Western SF animation, co-productions and DC/Marvel Comics superheroes franchises, all of which could be said to be SF to one degree or another? Battletech (well, unless you're looking specifically for good Western cartoon TV SF series) and Exo-Squad might count.

And, oh... calling Mr. Tracy. And Spectrum is Green! And anything could happen in the next half hour! Etc... :)

Macross has had less fail than Star Trek or Wars.

Thin ice. Very thin ice :)

I'd say the only reason it might feel that way to some is the obvious differences in popularity, profile and the hype machine between Macross and Wars/Trek.

I voted none of the above. Before Macross and even before Star Wars my favorite has always been. . . . . . . . .
