bsu legato Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 Anybody here familiar with Master Keaton? Pioneer has just started releasing this series, and while it sounds kind of interesting I'm reluctant to plunk down $30 CDN on the first disc. For anybody as clued out as I am, here's the official site: http://www.masterkeatondvd.com/ Any recommendations? Quote
JELEINEN Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 (edited) Excellent show. The main character is one of those understated genius types. You know, one of those guys who can pretty much do anything, but always come across as being kind of average to people who don't know him very well. The stories range from mysteries to slice of life bits with a little action thrown in here and there. The stories are also intelligent and well thought out. The animation isn't top of the line, but then this kind of show doesn't need expensive animation. It's also nice to see a show with a main character who's a little bit older than the normal teeny bopper anime hero (he's somewhere in his mid to late thirties). Jolly Rogers Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 I haven't seen the anime adaptation but the manga is very good adult fare - adult not in the sense of cheap violence and sex scenes but the story being mature and interesting on the intellectual side. If I recall correctly, the main character had SAS training and has a lot of mercenary types of friends all around the world, so he gets helps no matter where he goes. The basic premise is kind of like a mix between The Equalizer and The A Team. The manga's creator also has a very good series called Monster. Unlike Master Keaton, it is not episodic but a long, epic tale of an evil child spawned from a buried secret experiment that took place during WWII. Great story. Would make one hella movie (or three). Quote
