yellowlightman Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 I think all these hollywood director's should be dragged out into a street and beaten b/c some artistic visions need to stay true to the original artists. I mean this looks like the biggest piece of poo since the first dragonball movie. I take that back, the first one will probably be better as it was funny as heck to watch... It's... Dragonball. You guys are acting like it's some work of genius being pissed on by Americans. It's a Hollywood adaption of a silly kids comic, people. Quote
ruskiiVFaussie Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 (edited) I watched Forbidden Kingdom last night... i LOVED it! So i DO have hope for this movie... even though it hasn't got Jet and jackie in it... and Jet as the Monkey King... ho boy that was awesome. Edited December 16, 2008 by ruskiiVFaussie Quote
aaajin Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 found the trailer today and I just couldnt believe my eyes.... looks like its real. our worst fears have been realized.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64fZMN2Qu0w Quote
Gubaba Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Actually, it's kind of hard to tell how good or bad it is from that trailer...but it sure as hell don't look like Dragonball. Quote
aaajin Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 when I read the thread, came across people mentioning forbidden kingdom. I do hope that at least the movie will be more or less like it, which is a movie thats fun to watch, has simple and interesting storyline and has no fan-base (no matter how much I tried, I still couldnt accept this as the movie adaptation of dragonball & would just assume it to be just another movie with no fan-base, so that it wont affect my expectation) Hope itll be fun to watch Quote
Repiv_Onex Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Watched the trailers, the concept doesn't seems right. Very disappointed that Kirin(sry, nt sure abt characters' Eng names for dbz) doesn't seems to be in the show, even Yamcha is in, why not Kirin? Gouku doesn't seems to be a funny guy like he was in the comics. Quote
bigkid24 Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 This looks like the quality equivalent of the DOA movie. Quote
Twoducks Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 There's always the fan made stuff: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermov...aylist=featured Quote
ruskiiVFaussie Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 (edited) This looks like the quality equivalent of the DOA movie. DOA was good for what it was, fan service and actually decent enough fight choreography ... but that's just it, it was all about the chicks, this DB movie needs to have a decent enough script to work... Mr March Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Do I even need to say how awful this looks? I think instead I'll just communicate my wtf-reaction when I saw Chow Yun Fat. I kept thinking "No, it's not possible". Then Johnny Depp appeared and said "Not probable" Quote
ruskiiVFaussie Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Can't wait to see the preview on the weekend, sounds like it's really bad. Quote
protostar8 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 (edited) Looks like a fun action movie, just NOT a Dragonball movie. I think the horrible old Dragonball movie did a better job than this one at capturing the Dragonball feel. When are movie makers going to learn that when you take on a movie about a massive existing franchise, you need to stick to the story as it was written. No major rewrites or character changes. Edited December 17, 2008 by protostar8 Quote
Morpheus Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 The Kamehamea part hurt my ear badly. Somehow the HK version of live action Dragon Ball is much more epic compare to this one. Quote
kaiotheforsaken Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Some things just don't need to be taken out of their classic mediums, this would be one of them. That trailer is only helping this thing look more god awful. Quote
aaajin Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 well, I wouldnt say this movie is bad...yet....just maybe "dragon-ball" bad. Just dont think about dragonball while watching and it shouldnt be that bad...though the title is dragonball nonetheless....lol... Quote
wolfx Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I'd probably like this movie if it was called not-dragonball. I mean why bother basing it off something if you're not gonna use much from the source material? Quote

B/c they know that just slapping "Dragonball" on it will draw in hordes of little kids expecting something that they won't get. But the movie makers won't care, they will already have their money by that point. It's sad really.... Quote

Wait, there kids and people in Wing Commander Movie? All I remember from that movie is the Tigers Claw, Fraltha, and the dreadnought.... I wonder in live action movie, what are the main character wishes when they summoned the big green thingy. Edited December 22, 2008 by Morpheus Quote
Einherjar Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Guess this isn't a surprise by now, but the reviews for the film are coming out. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/dragonball-evolution Quote
kanedaestes Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Yep exactly how I thought it would be. That is one of the best reviews I have ever read. Too bad the movie will tank so hard they won't be able to correct their mistakes with a sequel or even get to the Z franchise. Another one bites the dust. Quote
Mr March Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 My favorite line from the review... None of the characters are compelling or interesting at all and they're all caught up in this big nonsense story that feels like it was written in crayon. Thanks for posting. It's times like these when the movie reviews offer the entertainment the movie should have provided Quote
Morpheus Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Wow, so can someone tell me which one is worst, this movie or Battlefield Earth? If its worst, I'll go and watch it. Quote
eugimon Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I'm glad this movie is managing to entertain us in this little way. Quote
Dangard Ace Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Oooooo.....I want to watch it now. I love watching crap movie for being crap. Now let's see....T.O.R.R.E.N.....what? You thought I'd actually pay for this?? Quote

You thought I'd actually pay for this?? I say wait until the DVD comes out before you download...nothing makes a crappy movie even crappier than watching a bunch of featurettes with enthusiastic staff talking about how awesome a certain the sequence will be, and how the fans will just eat it up. anime52k8 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Wow, so can someone tell me which one is worst, this movie or Battlefield Earth? nothing can possibly be worse than battlefield earth Quote
Gubaba Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 nothing can possibly be worse than battlefield earth ...except Troll 2. And Turkish Star Wars. And "Manos": The Hands of Fate. Quote
anime52k8 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 ...except Troll 2. And Turkish Star Wars. And "Manos": The Hands of Fate. Those are so bad to the point that they become ironically funny. battlefield earth is just utterly horrible to the point of being painful to watch. Quote

True. I never made it past the fifteen-minute mark. I did know someone who saw in three times in the theater however. Even more bizarre, his last name ISN'T "Travolta." Quote

Gubaba Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 his last name didn't happen to be "Cruise" would it? No, he was one of the biggest anti-Scientology crusaders I'd ever met, but then he became quite the Battlefield Earth apologist. Rather strange, don't you think? Anyway, Dragon Ball. Are they actually planning to release this to theaters, or is it going direct-to-DVD in the U.S. while they try to milk it in Europe and Asia? Quote
