Seto Kaiba Posted March 29 Posted March 29 37 minutes ago, MacrossJunkie said: There is truth to this regarding cross pollination with the art. For example, the face of Guilliman. The miniature's face looks like this: But the figure's face looks like this: Which is more in line with illustrations and the 10th edition trailer If it were simply a scaled up version of the mini, it wouldn't look like that. So it seems there is at least some leeway for interpretation as the miniature simply scaled up would not look very good and they had to use other art references to make the figure look good. Same with the Lion. The mini's face wasn't as bad, but you can clearly see that they used illustrations like from the book cover for The Lion: Son of the Forest as their reference for the figure's face sculpt. Yeah, there's something similar going on with Joytoy's new Horus Lupercal sculpt. Joytoy's Horus Lupercal isn't based on the main Horus Lupercal miniature from the tabletop game. It's based on the "Horus Ascended" design from the 2022 cinematic trailer, a slightly modified version of the more overtly evil-looking Horus Lupercal design that's been used by the novel series since 2011 but wasn't represented in the tabletop game until just last year when Horus got a second miniature to represent him as the Chosen of Chaos Undivided during the Siege of Terra based on the trailer design. It's a great update to the design, so I'm glad they went with it over the actual Horus Lupercal miniature. It definitely makes me curious to see what they'll do with the Emperor's fabulous ****ing Hawk-Boy Sanguinius and Magnus the Red. Quote

Yeah, it's definitely based on that Horus Ascended mini rather than the "Horus the Warmaster" mini, but the face sculpt on the figure is amazing and much improved over the ascended mini. I'm rather glad they went with the newer ascended mini and improved upon it in the transition to a larger figure. Quote

levzloi Posted April 2 Posted April 2 The knights have also been released, but the original will always be my favorite, as I have a serious case of nostalgia from playing 2nd edition. Quote

In other news, they announced a few days ago the 10th edition Leviathan box set terminators including UM 1st Captain Agemman, the librarian terminator, and some terminators including the sgt with the teleport homer. The helmet sculpts have been fixed so they're not so small looking and more detail have been added to the legs. They are also a little bigger than the Deathwing termies. MacrossJunkie Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Got my IF despoiler squad and a breacher with the graviton gun. They looked pretty good already, but I decided to do a bit more with them. Joytoy said it wasn't feasible to have their workers paint up all the studs and such, so I took it upon myself to do that. Painted up the studs on the armor for the despoiler marines and made my first attempt at painting a plasma pistol because it didn't look right by default. I think the extra effort makes these guys stand out more. Quote

I’m sure the will do the new Desthwing Terminators eventually. It was just unfortunate that: 1. they didn’t release any regular Deathwing Terminator troops and 2. GW just released new Deathwing Terminators when JoyToy announced theirs. I wonder what the communications with GW sounded when JoyToy decided to release the Deathwing. I hope they do announce Sammael in his jetbike soon. Quote
MacrossJunkie Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Apparently a new UM terminator chaplain is also coming. I like this one a whole lot better than the other termie chaplain JoyToy has already released. Quote

Seto Kaiba Posted April 24 Posted April 24 Interesting, I honestly wasn't expecting to see them roll out something from that grand tome we call Codex: Australian Wildlife... er... Codex: Tyranids. It looks like they've done a great job with the sculpts as always, though the color scheme from the cover of the Codex is definitely one of the less interesting/appealing ones. 🤔 Quote

So now they're doing the other half of it with the nids. Hopefully they sell well because it's nice to have more than just SM. Yeah, the sculpts are great and I think they've done a good job of hiding the joints. The colors aren't quite right for Hive Fleet Leviathan though which is strange because normally they do a good job matching the colors to those of the official minis. The overall skin should be more pinkish. The gun shouldn't really be the same color as the skin. Not quite the right purple for the carapace either, but good enough I suppose. I expect that I will need to fix the colors when I get them. Quote

Game is in a great spot now, best it's been since I've been playing (about 5 years) and I've talked to a lot of people that quit in 5th or 6th ed come back to the game and are enjoying it a lot more. Might be worth giving 10th a try, I've had fun with it. T'au just got a bunch of new Kroot models. Quote
Bolt Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I'm definitely ready to play again. Just a matter of time before my youngest gets into it. 1 hour ago, HardlyNever said: T'au just got a bunch of new Kroot models. I saw that, and the new Farsight that came out last year {or year before:)} Quote
Big s Posted April 27 Posted April 27 2 hours ago, HardlyNever said: Just noticed this thread. Does anyone here play, or it just about the Joytoy figures? I used to back in the 90’s in the days of the pointy faced space marines. I remember they sold a pack of thirty plastic marines for only thirty bucks. I was on an extreme budget of lawnmower cash at the time, so that seemed like a great bargain. Did find out my daughter is playing now. She started about a year ago since she’s been living with her fiancé and I guess their friends are into it as well. Quote

Proudly representing the Commorragh Chamber of "Commerce" since 3rd Edition! Picked up Necrons for a bit after they were first introduced, but never updated to the "Newcron" range when they graduated to being Space Tomb Kings because I didn't enjoy their ruleset as much. Tabletop wargaming is not really my thing, so I never played. Played a bit of space hulk way back though. The very first Dawn of War game was what got me into WH40k and I dug into the lore and such after. I liked the minis and thought about collecting them, but the size and fixed poses turned me off on the idea. The JoyToy stuff was perfect for what I wanted, though I didn't start collecting until Roboute came out which gave me the push to start. Before that, I had gotten a couple of the early McFarlane intercessors, but they just didn't do it for me when I got them in hand. Quote
MacrossJunkie Posted May 1 Posted May 1 More Sons of Horus stuff from Joytoy revealed during Toyfair and up for pre-order. Disappointed that they haven't done Garviel Loken yet. Hoping he's coming at some point. Another SoH praetor Tartaros pattern terminators Quote

I put little UN spacy kits on some of my Grey Knights stuff, but it's really small and no one really notices it (or knows what it is). Quote

Considering his role in the story, I doubt Garvi's going to show up as part of the Joytoy Sons of Horus line. He only spends the first three books of the sixty-four book Horus Heresy series as a member of the XVI Legion. Most of his appearances in the series are as one of Malcador's Knights Errant, the Legion-less group of Astartes that carried out various special operations on the Sigilite's orders and later... It was only after the Knights Errant were disbanded that he started painting his armor again, and went back to using the colors of the pre-Heresy Luna Wolves during the Siege. If a Garviel Loken figure is coming, it'll probably be either in the Knights Errant marking-less gray armor or in old Luna Wolves white. Quote

MacrossJunkie Posted May 15 Posted May 15 (edited) Okay, this is pretty awesome. Joytoy revealed Leviathan dreads for IF and SoH. At 1/18 scale, these are going to be pretty massive. The Redemptor dreads were done very well and had a lot of presence on the shelf and I expect these to be similar in that regard also.
