Mog Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 . . . . Never thought I'd be envious of a clarinet. Was that Henry Rollins as Duke?! Flint's gonna get f*&ked! Season 1 of the Wonder Years DVD's? Did hell freeze over and someone forgot to tell me? Quote
wolfx Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I thought Cobra Commander's introduction was kind of weak. He finally dons his mask and reveals himself only to get incarcerated seconds later by the Joes. Part of the plan to have Zartan free him later on i suppose. But yeah the whole "you and what army" bit was kinda lame since Duke could single handedly caught him. Quote

Vostok 7 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Julianne Moore IS Scarlet! There was actually quite a few famous people in that video! Snow Job = the weird brother-in-law from The Hangover. Vostok 7 Quote
RD Blade Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Billy Cruddup as Zartan?!? Seems like the casting is waaaaay better on the spoof! Quote

Was hilarious seeing what famous face would show up in character next. Wasn't that Chuck Liddell as Gung Ho? Quote

EXO Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I love the casting for the video... Olivia Wilde makes a great Baroness. Quote
myk Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 is the movie simialr to this? Mmmmm....no.... Quote
reddsun1 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I love the casting for the video... Olivia Wilde makes a great Baroness. I think it's safe to say: as bad-guys go, Baroness is pretty much a super-hottie, no matter what she's doing; instigating terror and anarchy, playing the flute, reading the paper, painting her nails...whatever. Quote
areaseven Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 The action was good for the most part, but the movie suffered from way too many plot loopholes you can jump your car through: 1. Why did Destro go through the trouble of giving the Nanomite warheads to NATO when they were going to Cobra, anyway? 2. Why did Destro need Baroness to have her husband weaponize the warheads when he could do it himself? 3. Why call this film The Rise of Cobra when Cobra Commander and Destro were immediately captured? 4. WTF is with the Night Raven being a Firefox ripoff? Overall, I thought Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was a WAY better movie than this train wreck. Quote
Gubaba Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Some of you guys are hilarious.. Saying you are going to pass on this. You KNOW you are gonna see it. Maybe not opening day but you ARE. No, I'm not. I never got the toys, I thought the TV show was dumb, and I generally hate Hollywood action flicks. The movie doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. Quote

Overall, I thought Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was a WAY better movie than this train wreck. 1. Because Destro is supposed to be a "Good Guy", and amist the chaos the world was going to turn to him for help. If he gave the weapons right away to cobra they would know he was evil. 2. Maybe because they didn't have time to take the weapons back to their underwater base? 3. Did you miss the part with Zartan assuming the role of the President? it seemed really clear that all the pieces were in place and Destro had just been a pawn of Commander all along. Cobra commander will be probably realeased soon, and baroness will still be evil since they can still control her. Quote
myk Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 (edited) Cobra commander will be probably realeased soon, and baroness will still be evil since they can still control her. You know I wasn't sure about that, whether Baroness could still be controlled or not. Wow. I can't believe I'm actually "thinking" about this movie... Edited August 12, 2009 by myk Quote
azrael Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Compared to the comic adaption Cobra Commander and Destro get away. The only one they capture is Baroness. Quote

doodler7 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I definitely captured the Baroness... ...after standing for 3 hours in the Hasbro line at the Comic Con! I should have waited much after the 2009 SDCC to read reviews online before getting my Baroness figure. $34 at the Hasbro booth. I'd say the only thing worthy is the packaging. I was so disappointed and pissed-off, I decided to make my own. Let me know what you think, definitely not looking like Sienna Miller, but I think closer to what I think should be the baroness. The figure is with a Triad 12" Otaku 1.2 Brunette. The Hasbro Baroness came with an M4...but I think she used a different weapon during the Hummer chase scene. The leather coat was still a bit too thick. Unfortunately the Triad figure doesn't have poseable torsos...waiting for the EVA version. The photos shows the Hasbro figure on the left, and my own version on the right. Quote

Gubaba Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Then why would you be reading this thread? Curiosity, mostly. I try to make it a point to stay out of threads about things I'm excessively negative about (the Watchmen movie thread taught me that lesson), but after seeing the ads for GI Joe, it looked like it could be a fun little action flick...so I checked the thread here and decided it wasn't up my alley. But before leaving the thread, I saw Agent ONE's post and just HAD to let him know that he had underestimated the willpower of at least one person here. Quote

Well, yeah. But that's the tightrope everybody walks with stuff like this...if you like it, you're an uncritical fanboy. If you dislike it, you're an elistist snob. If you like it and then later pretend you don't, you're just pathetic. There's no way to win, is there? Quote
JCSaves Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 I laughed but at all the wrong parts. Overall I really enjoyed the movie. There were some corny parts (of course) but all in all I liked it. Quote

Excillon Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Saw it, was seriously unimpressed. I'm not really a fan, but as far as action movies go, it was lame. It's sad Sly Stallone at 60 can make a better action movie like Rambo than these guys can make. Only redeeming quality I thought it had was Marlon Wayans was hilarious, and the guy who played Cobra Commander was as usual excellent. Quote
Roy Focker Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I wonder if was one the movie done the writers strike. I also think Marlon did a good job but some of his dialog like all the dialog seemed awkward. Like they had a script that need just one more draft. Marlon also did good because he seem to be actually acting. If you paid attention to the press coverage of the movie during filming a lot of the actors almost seemed to be dissing the film. Few seemed to be excited in the interviews about playing Gijoe for real. For most it was just another paycheck and it showed as they all phoned it in. For a few others you could see they gave some effort. No one expect it to be a good film. I expected some cheesy action fun. Duke was just horrible. Makes sense you look at his former career. The actor was a teenage male stripper that got discovered and became a legitimate "model/actor". If he didn't get discovered his only chance for movie career would be in porn and his acting ability to great for it. Quote
doodler7 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 doodler7----what'd you use to make yours, outfit-wise? Did you use Triad's Baroness outfit? Hi David, I used the Triad Toy's Catsuit 1.0 Female outfit. I could not find anymore available Barenless suits; they're sold out everywhere. The Triad Toy's Barenless outfit I do have is on the 1/6 Midori Washio Cy Girl figure (i didn't like the baggy look). I wanted to transfer the outfit to the Baroness, but decided that the Catsuit's laced-up boots gave more of that "baroness" feel. Heh. Here's the Catsuit 1.0 outfit: http://www.triadestore.com/catsuit-female-p-1795.html Ref photo: Quote

ShadowerV2 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Sweet. Thanks for letting me know. Now to go buy a couple of them. Quote
