HWR MKII Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 The SV-51 i commissioned Luke to build is here! There wa a little shipping damage but it is all repaired now. The airframe has a light coat of primer on to even out surface tone. Next up will be a yellow undercoat in the proper places and then liquid mask and the coat of magenta. Quote
IAD Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Very nice, very nice. By the way, you can sand down any wrinkles in the tissue that really get to you. I'd used 300-400 grit. Maybe use a bit of white glue thinned with water, just to make sure the edges are tacked down. ~Luke Quote
HWR MKII Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 I have been doing just that actually Micro crystal clear works well too. Its basically thick white glue. Quote
HWR MKII Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 Now does anyone have a scan of the decal placement guide from the instructions? Theres no good references of the underside and it would help to figure out the overall placement of the masking fluid for the yellow stripes. Quote
HWR MKII Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 More progress. Got the top coats applied and masks removed. looks awesome. Any areas not magenta or part of the splash pattern will be painted accordingly with details. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 You went from sanding it down, to having both main colors applied of pattern that complex, in a couple hours?!?! Quote
Dante74 Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 I was wondering the same thing. Do you have some kind of warp switch on your desk? Quote
kkx Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 I am speechless. I can't wait to see this bird fly. Choosing the Nora color scheme instead of the Ivanov one will make this more striking in flight, I think. I hope you are planning to take some video so that we can enjoy the glory of this creation in its "natural" environment. Quote
HWR MKII Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 You went from sanding it down, to having both main colors applied of pattern that complex, in a couple hours?!?! Thats just the upper half. i still have to mask and paint the lower half tonight then paint in the details like the black panels. Fortunately the top and bottom paint patterns arent the same so it will aid in keeping orientation in flight. Quote
TSP Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Sweeeeet! Definitely one of the best looking RC plane on the planet. Quote
recon Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 More progress. Got the top coats applied and masks removed. looks awesome. A Nora version!! cant wait to see ya detailing this baby, all you are missing is a 1/25 VF-0A shin to react the dogfight Quote
HWR MKII Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 Nice!! A Nora version!! cant wait to see ya detailing this baby, all you are missing is a 1/25 VF-0A shin to react the dogfight Actually i want a couple F-14s to kill first then a VF-0D. Quote
HWR MKII Posted August 12, 2007 Author Posted August 12, 2007 Painting is done just some panel lines to add in. Dont know why the one picture went green. None of the light levels changed. Quote
Dante74 Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 That looks just amazing! I wonder, do you ever sleep? Quote
robodragon Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 She's a thing of beauty. I can't wait and see your flight vid. I (as well as others here I imagine) am very jealous . Quote
IAD Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Looking VERY nice. That'll look great in the air. ~Luke Quote
rotorhead Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 (edited) will that have a pusher prop on it when done, or do you have internal fan 'jets'? either way, it still looks great! Edited August 15, 2007 by rotorhead Quote
MechTech Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 IAD and HWR, that's awesome guys! I've been roughing it out in the field to come back to this. Very NIIiiiiiice! You will definitely have to post some video!!! - MT Quote
IAD Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 MechTech: Thanks! I'm sure Sean will post videos. They'll be great. Rotorhead: It uses 40mm ducted fans. It's a heavily upgraded version of the one I built, and flies great on the fans. "We don't need no stink'n pusher props!" ~Luke Quote
rotorhead Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 sweeeeeet! i've always loved seeing jet designs made into r/c's, but so many times they put on a push/pull prop which just kills the cool lines of the aircraft. granted, it's been a bit since i've checked into a lot of r/c stuff, but it seems ducted fans are far more popular now. for bonus points, can ya make it VTOL? Quote

You know, a while back, Luke (IAD) was talking about the feasability of doing an RC gerwalk, iirc. Quote
IAD Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Yep, the SV is a 'viable' candidate for VTOL GERWALK, in theory. (Three 'lift points', the two legs, plus the lift fan.) Very expensive, and not 100% guaranteed to work (relatively slow fan response time could make stability hard to achieve) but, not altogether impossible, either. Just impossible with 40 mm fans. Probably would need at least 90mm fans, which means an 81" long model. (BIG!) ~Luke Quote
cool8or Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Sean, it's look awesome!! I'll be waiting the video... Quote
HWR MKII Posted August 19, 2007 Author Posted August 19, 2007 Video will probably surface sometime in the winter. The air will be denser and the ground will have a natural cushion called snow all over it. Quote
article 12 Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 woah.. that is cool! I wondering tho if the airframe is stable enough to actually fly, without instantly falling outta the sky? and if the canards actually function? and will actually serve as lifting devices, rather than cause extra drag than will make it harder to take off Quote
David Hingtgen Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 That's the second one, and there's footage of the first one (and second one in primer I think) flying. It does so quite well. http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?show...5665&st=500 And work backwards from there. Quote

All works as it should. Quote

IAD Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Yeah, and I'd love to be able to afford to build a jet turbine VF. ~Luke Quote
