Except for the fact that A-10's aren't silver, and don't have red trim...

It's no more "realistic" than making a purple firetruck. Sure, SOME trucks are purple, but not firetrucks. SOME jets are silver with red accents, but not A-10's...

I think he meant grey. Red accents keep it Powerglidey, vaugley, or just keep his red head and other red parts from looking 'odd man out'. Hasbro's stated aim for the Universe line's initial toys was to continue with the realistic astethetic laid down by the movie line, so that's why.

Theres still no A-10s with red trim. I don't mind if Powerglide turns out predominantly grey with red trim.

Animated Starscream has a cool bot mode but IMO the jet mode is pretty chunky and ill-proportioned.

Oh well, I'm sure I'll buy it anyway, given my weakness for transforming jets.

Holy crap... why is that picture so awful? The grey prototype looks amazing... that color shot looks like an unfinished disaster. And why is Sunstreaker's engine still on his roof?

Hey, that is pretty close to Hot House's color scheme. Animated Starscream's jet mode in the cartoon evokes an F-15 influence with FSW. The toy, with its more compressed look, is definitely giving me an F/A-18 influenced design. Not bad, but I wish it was more accurate to the cartoon.

Both are mistransformed.

I said it before, and I'll say it again, that Sunstreaker looks more like a 1:32 Roadbot than it does Sunstreaker.

I tried to find a better comparison picture so I could paste it here without worry, but Ben's site has some excellent pictures. Anyway, G1 Sunstreaker and Alternator Sunstreaker side by side: http://www.bwtf.com/alternators/sunstreaker/g1rm.jpg

Ummm. I dont know what to think of Powerglide. It looks mistransformed and the colors arent helping either. Yikes.

Onslaught looks a lot less impressive and what's up with King Poseidon? Is he really popular enough to warrant a re-issue?

Yes, people have been begging for him since he was cancelled a few years ago(as an exclusive to either walmart or target). It also helps that he has high playability compared to other gestalts.

I've never really understood the fascination with the mold. Maybe its because its one of the more rare gestalts. I really have no idea, but I do know the fandom's been begging for it for as long as I've been a part of it. At least they did a decent job on the deco. Still not for me though.

Octane looks MUCH better in colors. It's kind of funny that the other mode is essentially turn it upside down and turn it around, much like Astrotrain. It works for me, regardless. Btw, I wish TakaraTomy would hurry up and confirm anime-accurate Astrotrain.

Prowl's looking a LOT like the animation model. And that's probably the best Onslaught pic I've seen so far, does a really good job of selling the idea.

Its the playability. Each limb can be alternated, and turn into a targetmaster gun. They also come with stands to display them in targetmaster mode.

Piranacon just ROCKS. Targetmaster gestalt! Also, very unique colorscheme that MATCHES---the only other "matching" gestalts are Devastator and Computron.

However, this new repaint is probably the fugliest repaint I've ever seen of any TF.

Finally---I think nearly every robot mode pic we've seen from that magazine is mis-transformed. I KNOW Sunstreaker and Piranacon are, I'm better Prowl and Octane are. Prowl's arms/shoulders just don't match up to the his chest/collarbones. And Octane has to look better than that, too many hinges/bits in him not to have a better configuration. ::edit:: Just saw the Powerglide pic---now I KNOW the photographer is clueless at transformations. Same problem as US MP SS though--he's "1 gallon white, 1 drop black" super ultra very extremely pale grey. AKA "white". He looks the same exact shade of "nigh-white" as US MP SS, when both real F-15's and A-10's are the same color in their standard scheme. Which is GREY. Very, obviously, definitely grey. Not "grey if you have new-fallen snow to contrast a PURE white against". Bleh. How hard is it to make GREY airplane TF's?!?!?!?!?

PS--I thought Octane looked better in all grey. Gold tanker windows? And plane mode is like a combination of Decep and arctic colors. And where's the CHROME? Octane needs CHROME! More than even Prime.

Wow - looks like somebody on the paint crew got confused and mixed up Powerglide with a new version of Jetfire . . . .

Y'know, I'd actually like the design if it were a different color - although the glowing nipples do bug me a tad.

So that's why Graham calls them Trannys - Powerglide, I never knew!

The targetmaster gimmick never sold me on the set. The gun modes never looked enough like guns to me. I think part of my problem with the set is the same problem I have with the G1 Terrorcons. Apart from the leader, the robot modes look like an afterthought.

Ok. :p But asides from "temporarily stripped bare for heavy maintenance work" I have yet to see a bare metal A-10. And NEVER one painted silver. The whole "bare metal military jet" thing kinda ended with the Century series. (Thus the reason the Thunderbirds now paint their planes white, when for many years they were bare metal)

PS--is that really a fireTRUCK? Looks a lot like it's based off the same thing that movie Ironhide is, just the Chevy instead of GMC version.

Maybe I should have said metallic orange with yellow wheels and teal fuel tanks. (which I HAVE seen on a semi, but am even more sure no fire department uses)

It's the only picture I could find online, and I didn't feel like driving down and asking if I could photograph their trucks. But they do have at least one traditional firetruck. It's painted the same way, except the paint was a little lighter and not as glossy.

I like Octane more now that I've seen him painted. Yeah, his wings are stubby, but I think I'll have him in truck mode more (just as I usually turn Astrotrain into a shuttle). But Powerglide looks like he's got his head on a reformatted Jetfire's body. Not cool.

The reason Piranacon's gun never looks right is because EVERYONE does it wrong. The instructions are wrong, the artwork's wrong. Just like many other TF's. If you look at the parts/posts, it's very obvious how it SHOULD be done:

You know that 3-piece black stand every small Seacon comes with? The middle part is a rifle. Use THAT piece on a "gun mode" Seacon, instead of that Seacon's individual gun. The small individual gun(s) should only be used for "attack mode", not "Piranacon's gun mode". (Seacon limbs are QUINTUPLE changers----beast mode, robot mode, limb mode, attack mode, gun mode)

Then you've got a friggin GUN for Piranacon. Far larger than any other TF gun I can think of. Never seen Fort Max's gun though.

I keep wondering if Powerglide would look better in his original colors, or would look bland instead.

Then I realize, he would look lovely in grey with sharkmouth and maybe some red trim. Then I also realize, the former 2 are possibly the only ones to come out.

Prowl is still pure toy porn...

And what do I have to do to get Pirranacon? Is he a club exclusive?

I think I read on the TF boards he his a TF Club exclusive. And if I remember correctly it's going to be $100-$199 I think.

Aqua and magenta, not teal and mauve. Plus grey and pink. (And purple, but only on Overbite, the 6th "missing" Seacon) :) (Piranacon is one of my all-time faves, one of the few G1 toys I liked well enough to re-buy on Ebay)

Personally I find the new repaint absolutely hideous, far worse than most knockoffs. Though if you use Deltastar's "gold" version of the G1 labels, that might help a little.

The white version is just that---like 95% white. Looks like a prototype or something. Half the figures have NO color and are translucent.

I think the original AND new paint scheme for the Piranhacon are equally terrible but I'm glad the transfans are getting a long asked for toy. It's always nice to see a toy company listen to the fans.
