DrunkenMaster2 Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Hi, Well it's time to start another step-by-step model kit. First I like to thank two people for helping me out, first I like to thank rye23 for selling me the model, next I like to thank Bobe-Patt for shipping it to me. So thanks guys!!! Now on to the valkyre!!! I plan to use two kits to build what I want, the first is the strike battroid, and last is the weapon kit. I plan to build the strike battroid like the one in the DYRL movie. I'm going to try to be very detail on how I put this one together, so lot's of pictures. [attachmentid=43057][attachmentid=43058][attachmentid=43059] Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted June 19, 2007 Author Posted June 19, 2007 (edited) ok, first I cut and dry fit all the parts that I want to see. Once you cut the piece off you will have to cut the nub off with a sharp x-acto blade and sand it down. Don't worry about if you sand down to much, you can fill in with putty. [attachmentid=43060][attachmentid=43061][attachmentid=43062][attachmentid=43117][attachmentid=43118][attachmentid=43119] Edited June 19, 2007 by DrunkenMaster2 Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted June 19, 2007 Author Posted June 19, 2007 I'm going to dry fit the top pieces first to see how everything fits. [attachmentid=43063][attachmentid=43064][attachmentid=43065][attachmentid=43066][attachmentid=43067][attachmentid=43068][attachmentid=43069][attachmentid=43070][attachmentid=43071][attachmentid=43072][attachmentid=43073] Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted June 19, 2007 Author Posted June 19, 2007 Next the wings and cockpit, dry fit before I glue and sand. I can tell that I'm going to have problem with the missiles on the wings, the arms keep getting in the way. [attachmentid=43074][attachmentid=43075][attachmentid=43076][attachmentid=43077][attachmentid=43078][attachmentid=43079][attachmentid=43080][attachmentid=43081][attachmentid=43082][attachmentid=43083][attachmentid=43084][attachmentid=43085][attachmentid=43086][attachmentid=43087][attachmentid=43088] Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted June 19, 2007 Author Posted June 19, 2007 Next is the head, I plan to drill holes in the the guns for effect. [attachmentid=43090][attachmentid=43091][attachmentid=43092] Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted June 19, 2007 Author Posted June 19, 2007 Next dry fit the legs, man there are alot of parts for the legs !!! [attachmentid=43093][attachmentid=43094][attachmentid=43095][attachmentid=43096][attachmentid=43097] Quote
Gabe Q Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 I'm glad to see another build-up. I will be watching closely. One thing I really hate about the Hasegawa Battroid is the two-piece chestplate. It creates an unnatural seam across the airbrake. Aside from that and the hip flaw, it's a great kit. Quote
jardann Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Looking good! I think HWR MKII did the same thing. If I remember correctly, he used wings from a fighter mode kit so that the missles would fit better. Good luck with the build! I'll be watching this thread! Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted June 19, 2007 Author Posted June 19, 2007 Yeah some of the parts are built weird, never the less it's still a great kit!! Next is the gunpod, very cool design, can't wait to paint this. Again I'm dry fitting all the parts first before I do anything else. [attachmentid=43099][attachmentid=43100][attachmentid=43101] Next is the hands. [attachmentid=43102][attachmentid=43103] Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted June 19, 2007 Author Posted June 19, 2007 Next is the tail fins in the back. [attachmentid=43104][attachmentid=43105][attachmentid=43106] Finally the little parts by the head. [attachmentid=43107][attachmentid=43108] Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted June 19, 2007 Author Posted June 19, 2007 (edited) Here is a very rough dry fit. So far I'm liking this kit, very detail and I haven't even touch the strike pack yet! wm cheng Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Yay! a step-by-step... I'll be watching to get my fix Since I don't have time to do it myself, I can live through you guys... that's great, I haven't built a Battroid before. Thanks so much!! Quote
big F Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Nice the self same kit Im am doing in the Samurai Monkey kit build off. Good to see someone doing a step by step. Come on William you need to get some Battroid action on that build table of yours. Quote
Valkyrie addict Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 oh man, I just got that kit myself, gonna use your build up as a guide, ehehehe looks great, keep up the updates Quote
MechTech Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Thanks man. The step by step looks great. I'm sure a lot of us appreciate it! Someday I'll build a kit...a valkerie kit! - MT Quote
UN Spacy Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 As much as I love my Yammie 48's in Battroid mode those Hasegawa's still beat em out. Bar none. Thanks for the pics! Can't wait to see it done. Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted June 22, 2007 Author Posted June 22, 2007 Well I glued some parts together and I hate when this happens, when the parts don't fit together, all this means is more sanding In order to put the missile on the wings I had to use the wings from the figther kit, so it would fit better. Here I putty the seams and primer the other parts. [attachmentid=43192][attachmentid=43193][attachmentid=43194] Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 Ok had time to do alittle more to the kit this weekend. First I airbrush clear green to the visor. Then glued it up, then cover the visor with liquid blue mask to protact it from the primer. Then putty the seams around the head. Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 (edited) I still have alittle more touch up left, mostly finishing the seams and reapplying the primer. Some seams I can let go because you'll never see them. Once I put on the strike pack. I figure I'll see what it's going to look like when put together. I think it's going to look good once I paint and apply the decals on this Battroid!!!! Can't wait to paint this guy!! I'm liking this kit more and more very detail!!! Edited July 3, 2007 by DrunkenMaster2 Quote
big F Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 (edited) Looking good. One thing I have noticed about this kit is the amount of seamlines that you suddenly see once you put a base coat on. I just had to go back and redo some of mine as they were still showing. Having to redo pannelines as well is a pain. Theres loads more detail than actually shows once you put it together as well working out what will how and what wont is half the fun. Other wise it`s a nice kit. Edited July 3, 2007 by big F Quote
jardann Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Looking good. Your progress is coming along nicely, but some of those seams are awful! Especially that seam down the outside of the left arm! They must be keeping you very busy. Hopefully you don't have much more trouble cleaning them up. Everything else is coming along great! Keep up the good work! Quote

Keep up the good work! I don't have to worry about those seams, only because once I put the fast/strike packs on they will be gone. Kinda cheating on that part, less work for me. Quote
jardann Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Oh yeah, that's good. I forgot you had mentioned that this was going to be a strike version. No way I would call you lazy for that decision. More like... efficient! Quote

DrunkenMaster2 Posted July 5, 2007 Author Posted July 5, 2007 Well I started the Fast/Stike Pack. First I dry fit to make sure everything fits. I'm going to cut off some parts to fit the DYRL movie Battroid. Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted July 5, 2007 Author Posted July 5, 2007 Ok had to see what the fast/strike pack is going to look like with the missile on the battroid. I'm going to have to change some parts around to fit the DYRL movie ver. This is going to look very cool !!! Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted July 16, 2007 Author Posted July 16, 2007 Ok had some free time this weekend. Going slow on this kit. Still working on the booster for the fast pack, had to dry fit before I glue it up. As you can see I layout the parts then dry fit. Man their is alot of small booster for the fast pack. I sand down the nubs to smooth out, all I have left to do is primer. Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted July 16, 2007 Author Posted July 16, 2007 Next I wanted the look of the movie DYRL valkyrie, the original kit had a piece that attached the armor on the arm. I cut that piece off and glue and sand it down to fit the arm. I'm going to glue the armor on after I finish the primer and the painting. For right now, I dry fit the pieces again. So far I'm liking what I'm see. It will look more like the movie version after I finish. Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted July 16, 2007 Author Posted July 16, 2007 (edited) Next I started the missiles, again layed everything out and dry fit. Next I glue up the main missile, first I need to blend in the corners so I had to use putty, to make sure I don't sand off the little circle on the missile pods I cover it with masking tape, then apply the putty. I'm going to primer it to see how will the putty worked, if I need to I'll apply more putty. I need all four corners to look the same. Edited July 17, 2007 by DrunkenMaster2 Quote
HWR MKII Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Yup i used fighter kit wings on it to fit the missile pods on. Also if you look in the screen cap posted at the top of the page you can see the anime magic involved. The wings actually slide down on the back in relation to the shoulders so they can work. Alot of trimming and fiting would be needed in the shoulder area to get it to look close to the screencap. Quote

So before I drill any holes for the missle I'm going to do alot of taping to fit the wings and missle just right. Hope you can help, do you have any picture of your valkyrie? Quote
DrunkenMaster2 Posted July 17, 2007 Author Posted July 17, 2007 Well I started to paint some parts. I'm using Tamiya paints. I'm using metallic grey (XF-56) for the feet and grill and anything that is metal. I used flat black (XF-1) for the little part and dry brush metallic grey around the grill. Looks good I like how it came out. Next I'll shade some detail after I finish using metallic grey. Quote
Valkyrie addict Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Wow, looking great, can't wait to see it finished Quote

It caught alot of flak in the move and needs to be rebuilt......again. Be careful. its top heavy and WILL try to tople over after a while. Quote
ghostryder Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Looking good! I've always felt the Hasegawa micromissile boxes were way too big, especially for DYRL battroid poses. What are their physical dimensions? If you had some spare Yamato 1/60 missile boxes, those might work better and require less wing position shifting. Quote
