Totally just your usual fare of baseless radio rumors. Eckhart himself says they should not recast the Joker. Chris Nolan has final say and he's not going to do anything related to Batman for another year or two.

Actually rumors are saying, backed up by recent comments from Michael Caine that Depp will play Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman will be the Penguin in the third one.

As been stated previously i believe this is all still just speculation. Nolan does have final word and he is no where near doing another bat related project. Let the man rest and recharge then in two years you can all have the answers to your burning questions.

Not the best review but a ton of close up pics. I had to cancel my original preorder...not sure about picking this up. Seems like Batman was over-stylized.

from what I read, yes. It's a F.Y.E / Suncoast exclusive. If you even have one of those stores near you, you should get it!

Amused by the poster artwork for the DVD release featuring the Joker rather than Batman.

I personally think that the movie was a bit overloaded. It was still good but the focus on Harvey Dent meant less time for the Joker. I think that they combined two films in a way. Twoface should have had his story begin in TDK and continue in a second film.

And what was that Scarecrow cameo about? Contractual obligation for the actor or what?

Just my thoughts.

Looks like they are pulling a Casino Royale with the first home video release of The Dark Knight. They got a 2-disc DVD edition that has crap for extras and a 3-disc Blu-Ray edition that is an embarrassment to call 3-disc with the lame features they are describing. Even The Digital Bits says that the Blu-Ray edition gives one the impression that a true special edition set is coming somewhere later down the line.

Compared to the impressive (though commentary-less) Batman Begins release, this "special edition" release of The Dark Knight is a real disappointment, just in time for Christmas. Perhaps that's the point; this is likely a rushed version made to hit the shelves in time for the holiday. And they know that the major portion of the audience for The Dark Knight wants their 2-disc special editions on home video, so they're gonna try to fool us

I'm going to check out the stores tonight to see if they have a single disc version and I'll likely pick that one up until they feel it fit to release a multi-disc edition worthy of a major movie event like The Dark Knight.

yeah, the bonus features do suck ass, but I'm more disappointed by the edging.... why why why do people still use edging?

What I thought was lame was that the two disc really stinks in withholding so much from the Blu ray. I got both copies last night (I have a Bluray PC, but the TVs are SD, so the DVD was for the rest of the family). I'm not much of an extras guy, though I usually buy the two disc since it's never much more and usually worthwhile if I really liked the film, like here. I'm rather amazed that the Blu ray had two specials, six commercials, and a whopping 11 more making of specials than the two dollar less DVD. The BD live stuff I can get, but robbing the main DVD of the a good majority of the extras is just lame, and this coming from someone that buys a film for, GASP, The Film. Looks like the division of mainstream vs niche collectors format has truly begun.

The making ofs I've seen so far though are pretty good. It's sort of a given that WB will be milking this film (they already plan a theatre rerelease in January), so I don't see how that's a surprise. Still, this is a pretty decent set as is, and I wouldn't call it a rush. Though the DVD is rather crappy in comparison. Maybe we should have gotten the one disc at Walmart with the coin. Though the IMAX scenes on the DVD are framed differently than the BD. They're 4:3 instead of 16:9. I need to compare images still.

The midnight release was fun. I got a Harvey Dent button, a Joker card, and picked up two limited figures of Batman and Joker that went damn quickly at Best Buy. I even got the midnight release poster ad.

I also though Scarecrow was pointless, and Two Face could've been in his own film, but actually thought they balanced it nicely. To be honest, my biggest peeve was that Eckhart's truly moving performance that rectified the dreck that was Jones' horribly wrong version was overshadowed by the hype over Ledger (who was awesome in his own right, but not the only good thing in the film). I truly believed in Harvey Dent, and it gave purpose to Rachel.

Aww... DVD has a lot less extras? Didn't even know when I picked up mine this morning...sigh.

Though I am more of a DVD guy, but this is a bit disappointing.

Interesting. That makes me happy knowing my roomate bought the bullet and got it for DVD. Now I really am happy to wait.

The IMAX version had artificial sharpening in the non-IMAX scenes. So it's sort of supposed to be there (not that I like it). For the IMAX scenes on the Blu-ray version, however, they added Edge Enhancement. It's IMAX; It doesn't need EE! The preview on the Batman Begins BD didn't have any and it looked great. I hope the next edition gets remastered and includes the regular theatrical version (EE free).

I'm quite curious about the live director's commentary on December 18.

Man, I watched the DVD extras. Then realized I could find more & better 'making of' stuff on youtube than what is on the 'Special' DVD set. This is getting really sad... Waited for a long time to want to see all these stuff in details, with director thoughts, art, set building, filming stories, actors interviews...etc. of this great movie. Turn out the extras barely have anything but a very condensed version of 20 mins that talked about the suit, the batpod, and a bit on the sound. In Begins, just the Tumbler featurette alone took up 10-15mins.

The EE peeves me, but I didn't notice on my runthrough the other night (though I wasn't exactly awake).

What I really hated was the warping of Casablanca for an anti-piracy warning on the DVD. That was just messed up.

I was wondering how this movie got moved to home video so quickly; most films with this level of success usually take alot longer to get the home release treatment...
