VFTF1 Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 It's sad that Simon and Nia wont have kids, grow old together, and do all things that two people whoes love is so pure do Well, I spent 5 years with one girl and I thought our love was pure, yet NEVER ONCE did we fly a super robot together, let alone travel to an alternative dimmension, go on a cruise ship with legs, arms and massive cannons fired by a clown or anything of that sort. Point: Nia and Simon do all the things that two people whose love is so pure do - they were happy together. Marriage was just a formality. Damn this series really touches you, when you get in it Yeah - the combination of unbelievable super robot antics with extremely vulnerable characters is just amazing. It's like - they are able to do so much; and yet in the end they still end up like dust... Pete
SkullLeaderVF-X Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Point: Nia and Simon do all the things that two people whose love is so pure do - they were happy together. Marriage was just a formality. True. It's just that it feels to me, that it ended to soon. I know she will always be with him like Bro. I just wish she lived, and they both spent there days together growing old with each other. Still the ending all in all was good. And the series probably wouldn't have made me feel the way it does, if it didn't end the way it did. It was a heartfelt ending IMHO. Yeah - the combination of unbelievable super robot antics with extremely vulnerable characters is just amazing. It's like - they are able to do so much; and yet in the end they still end up like dust... Pete Yeah, I think that is what makes me like the series. Even though they are able to be strong and fight the good fight, and seem almost invincible at times, there not. And they can die.
Keith Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 I wish Simone & Yoko had finally gotten together sometime after, but the fear of relationship jinx on both of them would have been too great.
SkullLeaderVF-X Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 (edited) I wish Simone & Yoko had finally gotten together sometime after, but the fear of relationship jinx on both of them would have been too great. I was kinda hoping for that too in the epilogue, but felt it might be wrong, since she was in love Kamina and Simon with Nia. Did Yoko like Kittan too? In the fake worlds I got the feeling she did sorta like/care for him, seeing how on the t.v she was marring him, and plus she let him kiss her and hold her, before he went to destroy that anti spiral machine thing. VFTF1 Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Simon and Yoko? In a way - it would have been a natural fit insofar as they shared so much common history. But in a different way - I think Simon's love for Nia was to huge and Yoko's love for Kamina was too huge. I mean, the only reason Yoko kissed Kittan was because she knows all guys love her and she thought Kittan was worthy of the kiss given what he had done and was about to do. It wasn't an 'I love you' kiss - it was a 'here - take pleasure from a beautiful woman because you deserve it' kiss. I think that both of them had their one true loves in life and that's it. Although - then again...we see Simon last when he's pretty much an old man, right? In the meantime - we don't know what happened, and we never see Yoko again after the wedding ceremony - do we? So technically...maybe they were together? Beats me? Pete

BeyondTheGrave Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 After watchin Gurren Lagann again it is more epic than Gao Gai Gar. But GGG is more old school anime robot like and made me appreciate hand drawn animation and why people scream bloody murder at cg. Both have epic screaming and attacks. Gao Gai Gar did destroy the sun while TTGL fought a Galaxy sized mecha in their own galaxy sized mecha. But the heroes in Gl did have more noble and awesome deaths or deaths that made sense vs. GGG where they kinda died in vain. Gai Shishio is Brave couragous in all but idk if he'd win against Lord Genome. The Argument that Gai has courage is good b/c without courage you can not succeed. But you don't believe in the you that believes in yourself then will fail no matter how much courage you have. I really don't think a Hell and Heaven could beat a Giga Drill Breaker.
VFTF1 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 I haven't watched GGG yet, but the thing about him destroying a sun sounds cool. Anyways - yay for your praise of Gurren Lagann I wonder how anybody in the future of anime is going to top that?? I mean - I do think Haruhi Suzumiya is fair competition - but the thing is - it is VERY telling that only a radically abstract show, which largely rests on the premise that the world we love is impossible or something invisible to us - can compete with a show which shouts : no! the world you love is right here! That's the thing about Gurren Lagann that I find so compelling. These days, with the cynical state of the fandom (me being amongst the cynics) - it's sooo hard to make an actual super robot heros show. I mean, if it's too simplistic, everyone will laugh at it and say it's kiddie fodder. If it gets hyperbolic everyone will just say it's a Gundam knock off - the mecha pornos will love it, but to appreciate it you'll need some emotional distance from the inevitable pathos. That's kind of what I meant when I said I felt like a kid again watching this show - because it's one of the rare stories to give us BELIEVABLE heroism. And I think that despite all our cynicism - we're all starved for true goodness and heroism and courage. It's just hard to convey in story form nowadays. GL succeeds and basically smacks you across the face every time you start doubting whether true heroism is still possible. For that it gets my highest marks. Pete

Pete Haruhi is good in all but idk.... its like its missing something. Only thing is if it has any type of mecha in it someone say it nothing but a giundam knock off and gundam is better. Oh if you want a show about giant robots and heroes check out .

I can't help but feel like I was going to reply to some post, but I can't remember why, or who it was I was going to reply to, almost like the very memory of it got whiped out of existence. Damn Haruhi is a good show!
RDClip Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I just started watching this series and so far i'm pretty impressed by it. I really like the comedy and the over-the-top-iness of it (my favourite moment so far was the first time they tried to combine the Gurren and Lagann by jamming it atop the Gurren) I was quite surprised with the ending of ep8. Though i was expecting it, not that early though.
SkullLeaderVF-X Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I just finished watching Gurren Lagann a 2nd time, and damn it just never gets old, and seems to get better!
VFTF1 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Don't worry - when you watch it for the one thousandth time - it will still never get old and get better and better. And try to get the mp3s for the music. I just finally found Mina no Peace, but in general the entire music track is worth it. Pete

I personally love "Libera Me From Hell" I listen to it a few times a day.

Keith Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Depends on how well encoded the MP3's you aquired were I suppose. But it's the full 2 disc vocal & bg soundtrack. Complete with "Blue Monday E'r"ectrical Parade," and "Do You Like My Trumpet." My favorite is still "To Hell With Gattai!"

What is the relevance of Kamina's emblem (and Dai Gurren emblem also) in the beginning of the series? When there having the big battle with anti-spirals? I just noticed it watching the series for a 3rd time.

VFTF1 Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Hm... I already have the Revoltech... This is really something that would make for the most epic transforming toy in the universe if someone took a seious stab at making an in scale Gurren Lagann & All Spaizer Set... You'd have Lagann, Gurren - the two could combine...then you'd have the big ship that takes them to the moon...then the moon...and the moon would transform into Terra Cathedral or whatever it was called...and that would Transform into Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann...who could also then Transform in to Toppa Tengenn Gurren Lagann. I know it can be done. The finall TT Gurren Lagann would likely be two feet tall. But so what!! DO IT!! Come on!!! Somebody do it!!! Pete

VFTF1 Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 It was only 2000 USD and I'm sure that a super TTGL set like the one I envision could easily be produced and sold at 200 USD or there about by Bandai. I mean - it would be enough if Lagann was the same scale as the Revoltech Lagann. Then Gurren - then have them combine. Then make a moon that transforms into a ship that you can fit the Revoltech sized Gurren Lagann into - kind of like Bangfarter or whatever his name is - there is that one SOC where you keep putting guys into him...or that one other Ghokin - Shogun...where you put dudes into his legs... Anyways - then the moon/Gurren Lagan/space ship combination -which becomes Arc Gurren Lagann will have to fit into a third Mecha - the Terra Whatchamacallit... And then have that Transform into Super Galaxy GL. And then, using parts-forming - add on parts and stuff - have it be able to make Toppa Tengen Gurren Lagann. We're talking about a Super Robot here - so it doesn't need to be perfect transformation. I mean - sometimes that's possible - like with SOC Daimos. But sometimes it's impossible - just look at SOC Getter Robo. Now - I love that toy even though it's a parts former - because it's also anime accurate. And with super robots - that's really where the desirability factor is... there is no one standard rule for SOC. It's all about making something that has the spirit of the Chogokin - and each of those is different. So for Gurren Lagann - it would be possible. And it would only cost 200 bucks. Just look at Asgetter and Gozomagerflugel ...or whatever those guys from Super Robot Wars are called - the horse dude and his rider... There's plenty of examples of "the impossible" being done. Gurren Lagann screams out for someone to finally do him justice!! Pete
Keith Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 (edited) Speaking of which, it's about time w got our first PS3 SRW game, freaturing Gurren Lagann, & Macross Frontier! Or hell, even a PSP one. Edited December 31, 2009 by Keith

MastaEgg Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 (edited) Well damn, it took me this long to bother watching the show on account of watching other anime. Stupid Macross! -The mecha were all hand drawn- no CGI at all! -The show kinda reminded me of Trigun. Similar setting that starts out really silly and simple that evolves into something way more complex and dark as it went on. -Ending was a bit lame. They might as well had Simon go off in his own a blaze of glory rather than mope around the desert and dig holes rest of his life. It's funny going through the earlier comments in this thread when you were all complaining that it was going to be an awful show that was cliche' and full of fanservice nonsense, and then after a few episodes you'll like OMG!! Bestest Anime EVA!!!! Edited January 13, 2010 by MastaEgg
