Alpha OTS Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 BBTS has a preorder up for Battlestar Galactica - Series 2 - Set of 4 which are the 6" figures line and this time includes a new Cylon! Funny how they hide it in the background of the picture though. Bummer that it's not coming out until January either.

The reason it's buried is because that image is just one of the standard CG promo shots. I don't think they have a prototype done yet.
uminoken Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 After rewatching "Maelstrom" and Evangelion in prep for the inevitable US issue (or bootleg) of Eva 1.0, suddenly the idea of a live action Eva movie didn't seem so impossible. The way the episode was put together, I felt that such a feat could be pulled off and not monumentally suck. We had Kara's analysis of herself, her mother, and her fear that being a pilot was all she was, we had diologue not too far removed from the norm, but just complex enough so it could be understood. Anybody else's thoughts? btw, thanks vermillion01 for the beauty Viper shots, I have new a desktop at work now
Mr March Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I'm almost through Season 2. Just finished watching Season 2 Episode 15 titled "Scar." Wow! These last half dozen episodes have been so damn good one might almost call this show my new religion The juxtaposition of the battles with all the powerful drama is incredible. I've never seen a science fiction show with character development so closely integrated into the story. Each character is so messed up and wonderfully three-dimensional it's a character fan's dream. And these special effects are just so damn fun to watch, I've been waiting for years to see great space battles like this that have me hooked as a sci-fi geek and invested as a fan of compelling stories. I also have to say it was seriously cool to see Michelle Forbes on the show as Admiral Cain. As if this show didn't have enough great characters, she was fantastic as the Admiral of the Pegasus. I really liked what they did with her character arch. Any other lesser television show would have played Cain up as a straight bad gal villain, but not BSG. Just when you think you've got her pegged, she turns out human after all and let's Adama go. Brilliant writing choice. It made Six's revenge so much more fulfilling and tragic at the same time. Well, only five more episodes and I'm onto Season 3. Yahoo!

(pegasus) its a real shocker to see that turn up and then nearly blow the crap out of each other.. the viper stand off is tense. so now u know what the "beast" is. Got kinda choked at the bit where they present the blackbird to the president.. you're right the charcters are so 3 dimensional, its a refreshing change for tv in gerneral, nerver mind sci-fi. BSG is far and away the best thing to happen to the sci-fi world in years which is why i would campaign for Ron Moore to try to get involved with the Robotech movie.. can u imagine.....
warpaint22 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Well Mr March I see you are injoying the new BSG, it's awesome isn't it, though I'm still a fan of the originals. It's a bit hard to post anything from Oz about it as it has been axed from TV over here, not a big enough fan base, so I'm left waiting on the S3 release on DVD so I'm still stuck at the end of season 2. It was strange thing in Oz as I grew up whatching the originals with my much older sisters and brother (3 sisters and 1 brother) and they all hated the new show and never whatched passed the secound or third show. I myself love the new show but the old one will always have a place in my heart. Does anyone know where I can find the old shows of when the Galactica locates earth, as faras I know there was only a few shows made before it all ended, need to see those flying bikes again and the cylons at an 80's disco, now that brings back memories. The new BSG is awesome but I must say i would have prefered a follow on rather than a remake but Iwas happy in ep10 of S2 when the Pegasus showed up as it followed the original but i prefered the way the pegasus made it's exit in the original taking on two bas stars and blasting of again into deep space (or being destroyed no one knows) and I also prefered the battle hardened Cain who was a master at battle taktics and a highly honored commander. IMO

IMO Well warpaint22, Galactica 1980 (the second season to which you are refering) is due for a dvd release in the new year, which will be the first time its been out to buy to my knowledge. Its available on some torrent sites in quite good TV quality. As for the Pegasus, you're thinking of one of the the old shows many 2 parters 'living legend' it was an awsome story.. but... wait for the season 3... you'll dig it.. and thats all i'll say on the subject. ooh, just found this.. http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Galactica...es-Box-Art/8079 Edited September 24, 2007 by vermillion01
warpaint22 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Thanks for that Vermillion01 for that you are a legend, that pic has taken me back to my childhood. Well I can't wait for S3 release over here as like I said I love the new show and am a little sad to read that it will end soon (is this correct). You must be a BSG fan from way back aswell as you seem to have such a great knoledge of the subject. Thanks again for the pic, made my day. Cheers
Mr March Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 The whole 3 episode arc starting with Pegasus and ending with Resurrection Ship Part Two was just powerhouse drama and non-stop action. It was science fiction television at it's zenith. The episode before that triple episode story was just brilliant too. After months and months of nothing but colonial retreats and withdrawals it was great to see them obliterating hundreds of helpless Cylon raiders. And then, the big guns come out in the 3-episode arc and two Battlestars make short work of an entire Cylon fleet! What an amazing payoff for the audience. I felt this huge surge of contentment watching that battle. I'm sorry to hear BSG 2004 was cancelled in Australia. That sucks. But maybe I can help you. Check your PMs.

After season 3 we have a 2 part tv/straight to dvd movie called Razor (out in november) which will deal with the Pegasus' time after the intial attack on the colonies, leading upto where she found the Galactica, then we have some more 'webisodes' (3-5 min shows that will be online only at sci-fi.com), and finally S4 will be the last season where (we hope) we'll get to earth. Season 4 will be split into 2 parts so the end wont be shown until 2009. Bummer eh. if either of you get stuck with finding episodes, old or new or webisodes, i may be able to help. drop me a PM sometime. Edited September 24, 2007 by vermillion01

Well I also consider myself an old sci-fi nut and I'm a big kid at heart. Razzor sounds great I'll look forward to that, I have S1 and S2 box sets and now waiting on S3 plus Razor, now I know about it. I read about how sci-fi is going to split the last season thats just pathetic IMO. So whats happening with caprica, I heard a little about it them nothing, is it still in the pipes or has it been scratched?

the white drew carey Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 sci-fi is one of the worst mannaged networks, imo. That's a possibility, but has anyone considered that BSG is, technically, doing very, VERY, bad in the ratings? We were discussing this the other night and someone brought up the possibility that there isn't enough money to do a whole 20 eps in one go, so they're splitting it up so they can sell Season 4.0 DVDs to fund Season 4.5... Just an idea. Remember that it's not just the network who decides when a show runs, it's also whether or not the production company and everything else can get the product out. For all we know it could be Universal who is dropping the ball on this.
vermillion01 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 (edited) It is true that ratings fell somewhat during the mid section of season 4 but by the last 5 episodes the ratings were back to normal (and some of the highest ever for BSG), I think this could be reason for the mothballing of the proposed prequel show "caprica", as we now know, 'caprica looks set to recieve a green light at last, and with the scale of production on Razor (its gonna be BIG.. lots of vfx etc) i think its safe to say that the decision to split the last season of galactica was not one of money and ratings. From what i can gather, they (sci-fi chanel) just didnt want it to end - its been their biggest ratings succes in years and has brought many new viewers to the network and helped to revive the genre in general. It was Ron Moore & David Eick's call to end the show at S4, and i can fully understand why. It was the network's call to 'spread' it out accross 2 years (the swine), and i can still understand why. Anyway, whatever the reasons.. BSG will be sorely missed when it goes. UPDATE - found this on TV.com "Next episode: Razor mini-sode series In this ten-part series, a young Viper pilot named William "Husker" Adama uncovers a Cylon weapon during the first Cylon War. Each mini-sode (a Sci Fi Channel term) will run about two to three minutes. They will air throughout October and November 2007 as a prelude to the special two-hour event, Battlestar Galactica: Razor. The videos will also be available at Sci Fi Pulse, the online video site of the Sci Fi Channel. Airs: Friday October 5, 2007 " looks they bumped the webisodes from pre S4 to pre Razor... woohoo!!! only 11 days until some BSG goodness! Edited September 24, 2007 by vermillion01

Mr March Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Ron Moore is no Joss Whedon. The Serenity movie was greenlight because Whedon was golden boy at the time, with ten seasons of high rating genre television behind his word. That carries a lot of weight, obviously enough to have a feature film made from a cancelled television show
vermillion01 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 The main reason Serentity was greenlit is because of the outstanding dvd sales of the Firefly box set.. of course his reputation with another girly vampire show might have had someting to do with it....

Taking huge breaks in the middle of the season isn't smart either. And if sci-fi has the money to produce endless monster versus small hick town movies, they have the money to produce BSG correctly.
Mr March Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Mr March thanks for being my spell checker. LOL. Sorry about that. Good habits die hard
the white drew carey Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I think I need to clarify my statement. Although BSG is doing well enough for Sci-FI, it is an expensive show to make, and the ad revenue that sci-fi brings in isn't equal to what a major network gets. The bad ratings statement was more in comparison to what other shows on other networks can bring in. IIRC- BSG is lucky to pull in 4-5 million viewers per episode, yet some of the crappiest shows in the Big 4 pull that in easily.
vermillion01 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 "BSG is lucky to pull in 4-5 million viewers per episode, yet some of the crappiest shows in the Big 4 pull that in easily." Yup, you're not wrong there! For a minority genre show, Galactica has managed to break out of the classic sci-fi mold to be rated along side shows such as 24 and Prison Break.. quite an achievement.. (was'nt trying to argue or anything).
eugimon Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 "BSG is lucky to pull in 4-5 million viewers per episode, yet some of the crappiest shows in the Big 4 pull that in easily." (was'nt trying to argue or anything). true, and BSG's format makes it a hard show to jump in the middle of. Even other story arc driven shows like heroes, 24, prison break, etc have end of season reboots or they start new story arcs to attract new viewers. BSG doesn't and recent episodes even allude to or directly pull from previous season episodes making it pretty daunting for new or casual viewers to keep up.
cobywan Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 And if sci-fi has the money to produce endless monster versus small hick town movies, they have the money to produce BSG correctly. I don't think they fund those. They just air straight to dvd garbage as tv movies. That's what I think anyway.
eugimon Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I don't think they fund those. They just air straight to dvd garbage as tv movies. That's what I think anyway. a lot of them are billed as " a sci-fi original movie" or some such. and even if they are only airing them, they're still buying the rights and airing them. I can't believe that cobra versus python gets to charge more for commercial time than BSG.
sqidd Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 (edited) The main reason Serentity was greenlit........ Serenity was marked for death in a LA jail? This one is obscure Edited September 25, 2007 by sqidd
azrael Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I think I need to clarify my statement. Although BSG is doing well enough for Sci-FI, it is an expensive show to make, and the ad revenue that sci-fi brings in isn't equal to what a major network gets. This is very true. RDM always mentioned constraints due to the budget he gets in almost every podcast. They cut corners (literally too... ) during production to keep the show running. This is part of the reason the Pegasus set had to go to make way for the Basestar set. They can barely afford the rent on 2 sets. 3 sets would break the bank. With ad revenue and DVD sales, BSG cannot compete with the major network shows.
Dobber Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Plus the Pegasus set was the unused Lost in space set that never made it to production. MrMarch, Love the 3 episode arc of Pegasus and Resurection ship pt 1 & 2 also. My favorite FX shot was the Vipers "sliding" past the Resurection ship while straffing it and watching all the glass breack apart. That was impressive visuals for me. LOVE the Pegasus. Looking forward to seeing more of her in Razor. Chris
Mr March Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 That three episode arc was just pure sci-fi porn. I loved it. The Captain's Hand (as previously mentioned in another thread) is also a very good episode. It was a chance to see more of the Pegasus in action. I must say, those Cylon Basestars sure have a glass jaw. They can pack a punch offensively with their anti-ship missiles and carry a horde of fighters, but if they are ever attacked directly by enemy warships they get ripped to shreds much faster than their colonial counterparts. I can see now why they work with numerical superiority. I'm almost done Season 2. I'm on the final episode "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part 2" and it's sooooo good. THere's so many interesting things happening right now. New Cylons revealed (Dean Stockwell, we missed you!) and an "apparent" shift in the war. It's great to see Cheif Tyrol again, though he's going insane I think. I'm not sure I really like Lee Adama and Dualla together. Maybe I just still can't believe they killed Billy. I felt really sorry for Roslin Btw, is there any merchandise for Battlestar Galactica? Like Battlestar and Basestar toys and especially a book, like a Battlestar Galactica Compendium or something? I'm into this show hardcore now and there's no going back
uminoken Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 They have a Behind the Scenes book by David Bassom for all 3 seasons - episode summaries, interviews and like. As for toys, they do have a few, if you can find them. They're part of the Star Wars/Spiderman/Transformers Titanium vehicles set. So for for the new show we've got every possible variation of a Viper, Galactica, a Raptor, Colonial One, 2 Raiders, and the Pegasus. They're included one or two peices to a case, so they're DAMN hard to find, but Wal-Mart, Target, and ToysRUs carries em...
Dobber Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Mr. March, I have a Galactica, Raider, Viper MK II, and the hard to find Pegasus...all brand new I can sell you if you are interested. P.M me if you are. I also think I have a spare "Scar" raider and Original series Viper. The only wave I didn't buy extra's of was wave 2 that had the Viper MK VII, Raptor, and Colonial 1. But I'm pretty sure I have plenty of extra's of the others. At the very least the I know I have plenty of the first 4 I mentioned. Chris
vermillion01 Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 You may also want to check out the Joyride Studios original series toys.. I find the titanium series a bit small (about 3"), wheras the original series toys from Joyride Studios are about 7" and IMHO are a little nicer. Anyone got any heads up on larger BSG toys from the new series? Mr March, you may want to look here for ideas.. they are a bit pricey though. http://www.cmdstore.com/baga.html
Mr March Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Three inches? Are they kidding? Is that the only size Galactica (2004) that's been made? That is way, WAY too small. Gawd, why did they even bother at that lousy scale? Basically, I'm looking for a decent toy model of the new Galactica and also I'd like a new Basestar. Do these exist in anything larger than three-fracking-inches (pun intended)?
