mslz22 Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 I got this off ebay for super cheap because it had been started (which actually made it more work!) and had no decals, I printed the decals myself from a scan off the net. I was burnt on macross the other day so spent a few hrs putting this together, it actually only took me part of 1 night and a bit of the next morning. I made the stripes a little more red to give it a bit more agressive of a look. mike Quote
Mechwarrior Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Great job, glad to see others making their own decals as well, its far easier than people think. Looks good. Quote
Nightbat Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Would you believe I find it "Too clean" ? what I remember from BSG those Vipers were pretty dirty like the've been flying around Uranus a few times too many Then again: it could just be the pic that doesn't show the weathering Quote
mslz22 Posted October 12, 2003 Author Posted October 12, 2003 It's dirtier than the pics show, for some reason my digital cam sometimes shows things dirtier than they are and sometimes cleaner, must be time of day or something. Quote
Sarensaas Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Wow, great job, especially considering you got it as a started kit cheap it turned out great. As far as the weathering, the studio 1/16 scale filming models were weathered a lot more that the full scale filming props, so the kit here actually looks pretty close to the condition of the 1/1 filming Viper. Millenia Models International makes some great add-ons for this kit, including fully-detailed Viper pilots (even includes parts for the annoying C.O.R.A upgraded viper), Viper guy and girl pilots, in scale, sitting or standing, and a Viper launch rail for the kit. I wouldn't change anything about your Viper though...great job. Quote
B-52 GUNNER Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Hey Guys, Here is a photo of my Viper. I was at a friends house as he was cleaning out his garage and he was pitching this piece of crap in the trash. It was build but not painted, decals were pealing off, and it was covered with garage grease and grime. When I took it off his hads it was 1990. That made it about 11 years old then. I broke the glues seams and rebuilt it. After about 3 weeks of restoration This is my finished Model Quote
gnollman Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Looking good, both of them! I was a huge fan of these show as a kid.... Anyone else looking forward to the Sci-Fi channel redo? Quote
bsu legato Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Nice stuff! Those old Galactica kits actually were pretty good for their day. On the Cylon Raider you can even see the kitbashed tank parts, faithfully reproduced at about 1/2 their original scale. Quote
B-52 GUNNER Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 I hate to say it, But the new Vipers are poorly done. The Front blades to the engines look like a solid piece of plastic and the intakes are the wrong shape on the inside next to the blades. Scot Quote

I'm pretty excited to check out the new show, I'm trying to keep an open mind about it. I am also looking forward to the Game, it may not be perfect, but I've been waiting 20 years to blow up some cylons, kind of like waiting1 18 years to fly a valk (battlecry) Quote
B-52 GUNNER Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 This is what I was talking about. I don't think that those blades will turn at all. I will still watch the show though. Scot Quote

bsu legato Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 I see what you mean, B-52. It's sad that the days of production artists with an industrial background like Joe Johnston are over. Whoever designed the new Viper clearly has no idea what those "things" inside the intakes are for. <_ Quote
magicsp00n Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 The previews for the new show make me sad... Quote

Well....This might be streching it a bit but, maybe they are made of an exotic material that stretches and contracks as it spins reeeeaaaallllyyy fast. Quote
B-52 GUNNER Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Sorry for my poor gramer but it's spelled "contracts" not "contracks". Public Education at it's best. Quote
JELEINEN Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Anyone else looking forward to the Sci-Fi channel redo? No. In fact, I am very happy that I don't have cable, so there's not even a chance I'll ever see this show even by accident. Quote
91WhiskeyM6 Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 I kinda miss " Above and Beyond" and those cool Space Marine fighters Quote
rsvictor1976 Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 The new Viper looks cheesy in that picture. I miss the old show. I hope the new one has the same feel to it. Quote
B-52 GUNNER Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 I kinda miss " Above and Beyond" and those cool Space Marine fighters "Above and Beyond" was cool as well as "Earth 2" I think they both were taken off the air due to the fact that they both really didn't go anywhere. Now Star Gate SG-1, THAT's REALLY COOL!! Quote
Isamu Atreides 86 Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 I kinda miss " Above and Beyond" and those cool Space Marine fighters hell yeah. a Space: Above and Beyond Hammerhead fighter model would kick ass. Quote
