Guys, Graham showed Dobber's theme (which is a mixture of russian fighter's themes) already to Yamato, and Yamato's response was positive! So instead of multiplying themes, we should insist on Dobber's theme for a SV-51 Special Edition!

As I have said in the past: Appale Genki Scheme!

Advertising for that little juice mascot. Cover the VF-0 and SV-51 with a sandy beach scheme with a palm tree and a bunch of appale genkis.

I think it would be great if they make that. Do we need to push or is it a sealed deal? We could do a poll I suppose to get numbers to Yamato?

Please do this!!! That is just fabulous! Really. It is a joke but it is part of the story and so goofy! That is such a great scene (and sad) when the native people sell out for a soda pop drink! I really hope someone will do this! How funny!

I like the silly side. I was going to make a cutsom 1/55 chunky monkie pink with hellow kitty stickers. May still do it.

The cool thing is, that in Battroid mode, most of the splintering will be facing the front since the legs rotate 180 degrees. So only the underside of the wings will show facing forward.....which would also be cool because then the top side of the wings will be on the back of the Battroid making it look kind of like a back pack.

If I had the spare change around for another 51 I would give it a try but........... :p

Thanks Jeremy007, I love it when someone who would normally pass on the 51 give it a second thought because of my model!

So, got home today and finally got to crack open my 51 and transform it... gota say, it's def. the best looking but worst built of my Yamato valks... it's a big floppy mess with alot of poor fitting parts and while it looks amazing and is really posable, it barely holds together right now.. needs some serious help. The boosters sag the wings, the missile pods don't stay on the hard-points, the hips are super loose (won't stand!) the neck is funny fitting in Battroid mode, the landing gear doors are all loose, and the shoulder design is really flimsy and scary... I'm bugged alot bc/ it LOOKS amazing but feels oh so delicate and messy in my hands... gonna go play with a Yamato Scopedog instead.

One of the local shops here is already taking preorders for the ivanow reissue, expected in Nov or Dec. They're quite reliable outlet, so I guess the reissue goes to show how popular the Ivanov is. I wonder if there'll be any fixes...

Boosters would sag the wings on any toy plane, or any real plane for that matter, they're big and heavy. I don't think Yamato could have made them any lighter than they are and the wings are too thin to incorparate some sort of support system into them.

Missiles stay on fine on mine, they're just a little hard to click into place.

Once transformed to battroid, the upper legs can be pushed into the hips to make them more tight. Standing shouldn't be a problem after that.

The landing bay doors are fine on mine.

The shoulder design is, indeed, very complex and scary to transform.

After a few hours of clear nail polis work, I hearby take back just about everything nasty I said about my 51 yesterday... now that the hips and wings are nice and tight, this thing is AMAZING! Looks gorgeous and is fun to play with now... it can even stand on one foot! I still have problems with two of the missile pods not staying on the wing roots well and I'm not sure how to fix that, but everything else is amazing.

So I'm too lazy to search this thread this morning ...

Has anyone heard of any plans for aftermarket stickers for this bad boy? Anasazi? Takatoys? Bueller?

Posted

As a matter of a fact, I'll be sending Anasazi the 51 sheet later this week along with a number of other sheets for both myself and for sale... they probably won't be ready for a while tho... but they'll be worth it when they're done.

Having the SV-51 makes me so much more appreciative of my 1/48's. They're so much sturdier than the newer 1/60 stuff. I've had my VF-1j for almost 5 years and she's still as tight as the day I got her..errrr..that didnt sound right

No, it doesn't sound right, but it's totally true... my first was a 1J Hikkie 48 as well, and it's still one of my favs and gets to tote around its GBP now...

Quick review----so what stores delivered to MW'ers first? I need to pre-order my Nora, but I don't want to wait 2 months extra like I did for my -19... :p
