Dobber: Don't get your problem with the gunpod and magazines. Didn't find any on mine. Did you remember to push the knees in (it was pulled out during transformation to battroid mode) when transforming back to fighter mode?

Yeah sure did. It's just me having difficulties with the transformation I guess not really and issue. It just seems like you have to spread the legs..so to speak... to get the gun pod in place and I'm affraid I'll over stress the legs in the process.

Haven't noticed any stress marks yet, but, I only transformed it once. Personally, I found the whole shouder wing area a little confusing  But again, I'm retarded ^_^

I got my 51 a couple of days ago. I went over the whole thing and here's what I found:

1. No stress marks of any significance. The ones I did find where on the elevator-stabilizer assembly hinges. It seems to be caused by the insertion of the hinge pins during assembly and should not get any worse as these assemblies do not undergo any real stress. It is worth noting that the plastic's color amplifies the appearance of any minor stress mark.

2. Droopy wings, specially the right one, and the sliding locks don't really do jack (they would have to be twice as long to make any difference).

3. My wings fold symmetrically, so no same-hinge problem on mine.

4. All the ordnance attaches securely to all hard points on my example.

5. Best closing Canopy of any VF, including the 1/48.

6. Radome magnet could've been stronger, but it does it's job.

7. Wing root hinges should have been designed with a flange on the bottom surface to correspond to a matching shelf on the wings; that way, even if they were less then tight they could not rotate down past horizontal and the wings would stay straight at the roots, by default. As it is, the wings are free to rotate an extra 3-5 degrees until the wing's hinge pocket inner surface hits the lower edge of the hinge block. It may be possible to glue a strip of styrene to the hinge just above the bottom corner and then paint it Euro I gray to hide it (it would look just like a surface detail); this would cause the wing to "bottom out" much sooner than it currently does.

8. Most Gear bay door are abominably loose but do stay closed okay. This should be a painless fix with some clear nail polish.

9. Gummy DD rocks!

I have not transformed it yet, so I may find other nitpicks in the future; but from what I can see thus far, this is Yamato's best release in terms of initial quality since the debut of the 1/48s.

^ haha, if you feel the exact same way about it a month or 2 from now, i'll breakdown and buy it.

AFAIC, all the reviews are being done while suffering from new valk syndrome. :D

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've been nothing if not honest and pragmatic in my assessment of all things Yamato (or Toynami, or Bandai, etc.), including the SV-51. I believe in shedding the light on all flaws I encounter, including design oversights, where applicable, even if they do not constitute defects; but I also give credit where credit is due. That way, anyone contemplating a purchase can make up his/her mind based on a comprehensive review instead of only gloom and doom carping.

Time will tell if the SV-51 proves reliable or not, but that is true of all toys. The SV-51, more than any other VF, is extremely complex, so I wouldn't expect it to be anywhere near as rugged as the 1/48 VF-1 let alone a Bandai 1/55.

i think the stress on the wing hub and doubled over hinge are the main QC issues, and the froopy wings the main Design issue it seems. Overall, these are fairly minor, though significant. Its not half as sever as the 0 shoulder problems, more the equivilant of the first release 19.

With some of the complaints of the toy I may wait for a ver. 2, how long does it take Yamato to bring out an updated version of it's products? I really want one but don't want to gamble with the hinge problem.

Yamato's version 2s can take well over a year (Roy VF-0S) or only a few months (1/60 YF-19) or never happen at all. With the Nora scheduled for release we might see some improvements in design right away but that doesn't mean we'll see a new Ivanov right away.

Scream Man, don't forget it took a while to find out the 0 had huge shoulder troubles... we might not have seen the last of the SV-51's problems just yet.

My only gripe with my SV-51 is the slightly foggy canopy. I might be tempted to actually dip the thing in future to see if it'll clear up...

Agreed. I'll keep checking this tread for new reports, but I'll wait for a second release. The Ivanov seems to have sold really well so far, so I'll bet for a second issue to be released soon.

For how long?

Whats the approved timeframe?

well, according to some people, yamato is expected to create toys that don't fall victim to entropy, so forever. :p

So here's my question to Graham...

Ivanov is selling very well and stocks decreasing very fast at every single web based store as I saw, is Yamato planning a second release for SV-51 in a close future?

what I mean is, they're like the 19: The wonky gunpod wasnt a HUGE deal, but it was noticeable. Ditto the wheels on the 19. As opposed to that, the original hipbar issue on the 11B and the shoulder issues on the 0A ARE huge deals.

Understood. Just having a little fun...

So can the double right or double left wing hinge problem be detected just by inspecting the toy through the window under the box lid?

Graham, don't wanna rush you or anything but how's the review coming along?

Can't wait to read what your thoughts about the toy are and to see some transformation video porn. I love it when you handle them all rough and flip 'em around and rotate the parts and... and...

I'll be in my bunk.

The funny thing is that I just got my pay today, and was wondering, after paying the bills ... "maybe I should cancel the order, maybe I don't have the money maybe..." BEEP! Text-message from my bank: Your Credit Card has been charged for 27 so and so thousand JPY by HLJ :) :) :)

Transformed it for 2nd time today. There is something definately wrong with the armpit hinge for the right hand. Somehow it doesn't align well with the cavity that its supposed to lock with and thus the whole hinge moves if the shoulder swivels. A tad annoyed at this. Its now sitting on a pile of unopened anime-toys in gerwalk mode on a stand. I could just stare at it for hours.

Trimmed and placed the stickers too. :D

Im going to attempt the super glue fix method tonight after I get off work. Can i just use any kind of super glue or is there a specific brand that I should look for? And toothpicks right? Flat? Rounded?

I attempted to put on all the missles and boosters lastnight, and god what a pain. Some of them lock nice and tight, others are loose and dont snap in at all, and just end up falling off as soon as I get another one on. It was really frustrating.

I did transform it all the way to Battroid lastnight, and I do have to say that its some ingenious transforming engineering they have going on there. Very nice.

Sorry, so busy the last few weeks. Haven't been able to spend much time on MW. Anyway, I've just emailed Yamato to inform them of the color issue with Nora's missile pods.

The framework for the review is done, as are the photos. Actually, I'm mostly using Swooshes photos for the review (with his agreement), as they are so good.

I'll try to get the review text finished at the coming weekend.

The video will take a bit longer as I want to get more comfortable with transforming the toy first before I do the video.

are those pics pinker than the other ones or is it just me? If they are is it the flash making it lighter?

And I love the 1/60 1D diorama!

The armpit hunge got to me too, but it DOES fol and lock up there. are u pushign it in all the way?

Yeah. Its only my right hand's armpit hinge that has this problem. I did a side by side comparison with the left hand and some parts didn't fit well in the right armpit hinge as it did in the left one, so the lock isn't very secure. I can't think of anyway to fix this yet.

Wow the MP SS is awasome! I had no idea of the scale/quality. It looks great in that shot!

Too bad I made myself a 1 transformers rule. And I already got a custom Prime
