Scream Man Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 i really liked this toy when i got my first one. It was fun, it looked awesome... Id never seen the anime, but i knew i liked the mech. And then the arm fell off at the shoulder. Now ok, I know this happened to several people. But the thing is, im in Australia. I emailed Yamato USA and they said send it back. ok fine, I sent it back (At another $50 postage for me) and recieved my new one 2 days ago. And the arm fell off. Now I had transformed this one ONCE, and then placed it ona shelf. not fiddled with. nothing. one transform, then straight to the shelf. Man this is ridiculous! I have emailed yamato again but since its Christmas i dont expect to hear back from them for some time. And i better get some damn compensation beyond a Garland that DOESNT have screwed up arms. If Im forking out another $50 to ship this damn thing back again i figure I now have $100 credit with them. I hope thyey deliver..... Quote

F360° Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 "If Im forking out another $50 to ship this damn thing back again i figure I now have $100 credit with them" Its sux, but what can Yamato do other than shipping you a replacement after you sent the broken one to them again. They don't have control of shipping fees. They are not going to give you credit when you didn't pay them anything for the replacement. The $50 you spend was to the Shipping company. Quote
Scream Man Posted December 24, 2006 Author Posted December 24, 2006 yes but im out $100 because of their faulty product! One time i was willign to cop too, but this is the same problem on 2 seperate units! If it happened a third time, id have paid again in shipping what I paid for the first unit! Quote

David Hingtgen Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 The Yamato Garland seems to break its arms more than any other toy mecha has ever broken anything. A quick check at ToyBox DX pretty much shows it to be "problem of the year". You probably could get a third, fourth, and fifth, and have all their arms break off in a day. You might just want to cut your losses, unless you want to keep paying and paying. Quote

It looks like Garland 2.0 should be coming out in 2007, it definitely seems best to cut your losses on the Garland 1.0. This thing sounds even worse off than the Toynami MPC Alpha! LOL Quote

Graham Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 For me it wasn't the shoulders, it was the ends of the thin metal swing bars. I'm also 2 for 2. Graham Quote
Scream Man Posted December 24, 2006 Author Posted December 24, 2006 im thinking of saying to Yamato USA "Ok, Ill pay for this one to go back, and u send me a brown one when it hits. I dont care about the colour, I just like the design. Quote
Hikuro Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 For me it wasn't the shoulders, it was the ends of the thin metal swing bars. I'm also 2 for 2. I think that's w hat is being meant, the peg on the swing bar connecting to the shoulder snaps with ease....I'm still really upset when ever i think how mine couldn't do 2 transformations without the right shoulder snapping off the swing bar. That's pretty much why I haven't bothered going with the military version, I'll wait till the problem is fixed. Quote
GobotFool Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Just curious, wasn't the faulty arm joint being addressed for a 2.0 release? I have my broken one right here and I'm kind of waiting for the 2.0 version to be released before I send mine back. Quote
Hikuro Posted December 25, 2006 Posted December 25, 2006 That's what I'm waiting for, I thought the military issue garland was suppose to have the 2.0 upgrade......but I could be wrong. And not too mention shouldn't this thread really be in the original garland thread that was created to discuss bout the toy? Quote
Hikuro Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Well, was about to take pictures of my garland and put it up for sale, the only problem was the right arm being snapped off the swing bar, still could transform and stay in place, but NOW the left arm had snapped off it's socket connected to the whell and shattered the socket connection area to put it back on. So now my Garland is officially scrap unless someones wants to pay 20 bucks (was gonna do 40 but now I'm dropping it again) for spare parts....Shogo figure is still in good condition, and the rest of the body is just fine except fo rthe arms. Hell I'm sure someone could do a custome job and do a MZ23part2 battle damage version! Quote
Fort Max Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 (edited) I'm afraid to even take mine back out of it's box now. I got it at launch, transformed it three or four times the packed it back up cos I was moving house & it's been in there ever since... Edit: Felt the sudden urge to get it out tonight! Anyway it's nice and stiff and shows no signs of distress. Seriously though, My Garland is still fine and dandy, I have no idea why some people have had so much trouble with theirs. I guess Yamato really is a lottery... Edited February 22, 2007 by Fort Max Quote

megatroptimus Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 (edited) Strange... looking at my Garland, I don't even see how you could break the arms unless you're forcing them. Edited February 22, 2007 by megatroptimus Quote

gerwalk25 Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I got a Garland today and a relatively good deal on it (traded in some McFarlane Anime figures and a Cy-Com Ninja). Brought it home went on Youtube to get accurate instruction and review (collectionDX) and when I got to the arm transformation the left arm broke off! I'm gonna try to attempt to use (Super) Glue and my tiny tweezers to put back the brittle bits back into place, or shouldn't I? Quote

Yamato needs to call UPS, give them your address, and they come out and pick up the Garland and deliver it back to Yamato at Yamato's expense. THIS CAN BE DONE. I used to work for UPS years ago and MANY companies did this if a product was found defective or damaged. I'm not trying to place a commercial for UPS, I'm sure DHL and Fed Ex does this too. Quote

Alpha OTS Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 After watching collectiondx's review of the Garland on youtube, I decided not to get it. Really floppy Holy cow, I didn't realize the figure could fit inside in bot mode. That's pretty nifty. The transformation looks ok, but I see those bars everyone's talking about. There is a little too much weight and stress on them. If this ever drops substantially in price, I'll give it a try, but as of now, I'm just not enough of a fan to fork over that kind of cash. Quote
Scream Man Posted March 22, 2007 Author Posted March 22, 2007 Well! Its now the 22nd of March here in Australia...and i recieved the replacement shoulders for my Garland today! If u read this thread u will see that i had 2 Garlands break in the same way; the shoulders, same as everyonee lse. I was eventually put in touch with a guy at Yamato USA, who was a very big help. he promised that new shoulder units were being made, and when they were he would send thm to me. In the same email he said if they werent made, he would send one of the newer garlands to me as a replacement. At no point did I have to return my previous unit (Again). Well i must say hes a man of his word. i got them today, and they do seem to be a much stronger plastic than before. i have attchaed the units and transformed the garland back and forth 3 times, as well as done some posing. Not a crack or stress mark in sight! Huzzah! While it WAS a long wait, i want to thank Garner for his help in this. He's kept me up to date on the progress of the shoulder units, and was prompt in sending them when they arrived. i hope everyone gives this very fine toy a chance when the newer versions come out, since I would have to assume they use these new shoulders as well. Now i just have to paitn up the figure...again. Quote
Fly4victory Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Thanks Scream Man for the update. Was waiting for word from the field if the "improvements" we good. Hope it holds together so I can enjoy the future Garland 2.0. Quote

Graham Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Have they strengthened the tips of the two metal bars as well as the shoulder sockets? The metal bar tips are another common area of breakage. The shoulders of my two early Garlands are still fine, it's the tips of the metal bars that broke on both, where they connect to the front wheel. Graham Quote
Ginrai Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 So when I saw Scream Man's post yesterday I emailed Yamato, but they have not emailed back. Should I wait until Monday and then email Garner directly? Quote
1/1 LowViz Lurker Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 (edited) Keep us all updated. Would have bought it if they didn't have the scary shoulders people have been reporting. I was thinking that when the second releases come out, someone does a video review transforming it 4 times in front of the camera to demonstrate how tough they are hehe. This reminds me of toynami balljoints problems with first release 1/100 valks. Edited March 24, 2007 by 1/1 LowViz Lurker Quote

Graham i dont see any changes to the otehr ones, but at the same time they appear to be fine. i never noticed any problems with the last ones though, so I dunno what to look for... I can say that Garland has survived around 14 transforms with out so much as a chip. seems like the gfixed the issue! As for Garner; hes a great guy Quote
Ginrai Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Alright, no one has responded at the info@yamatotoys.com address, so I will try Garner directly I guess. Quote
gerwalk25 Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 (edited) I received my replacement part for my Garland today. It came in a big box ala Christmas Story's "Great Reward" . I looked in that box and after a couple of minutes found the part. It's the whole shoulder/wheel/arm attachment and the die-cast swing bar to boot. I was just expecting the upper arm assembly but I'm more than satisfied! Props to Garner for his help! Now it's time for some minor surgery to the Garland! Edited March 30, 2007 by gerwalk25 Quote
mpchi Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 I also got my parts this morning. Don't have time to check it out yet as they are still in the box. But kudos to Garner, a very quick turn around and hassle free. Thanks man. Your service really makes a difference. Hope these new shoulders really last. Quote
