grebo guru Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Here's something some people may not have seen before... This is a mech from the video game [/b]KikaiOh ("Machine King(s)"), which I think was released in the US as "Tech Romancer". Anyway, there are about 8 or so different mecha in the game, all designed by Kawamori. Each has a different style. The Rafaga (spanish for "a gust of wind") is the Variable Fighter type mech of the game. (Although strangely, its shape is closer to that of a helicopter.) Enjoy!! Grebo Quote
grebo guru Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 Here's the other Macross-like mech from KikaiOh: the military-type "Wiseduck". Nope, I'm not making that up. Despite its goofy name, it is pretty cool. Very Destroid-like. Enjoy! Grebo Quote
UN Spacy Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Thanks for the scans Grebo! Always nice to see something new from Kawamori-san. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Kikaioh rocked. The more anime series you've seen, the more you'll get out of it. Still amazed it came to the US. Reason enough alone to never sell my Dreamcast. (though the final boss is CHEAP imho) Quote
Zinjo Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Nice to see some gunship designs from Kawamori, very nice! Quote
baronv Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Oh I never knew Kawamori designed those mechs. I played it back in the arcades in the old days and I also have it for the Dreamcase. An ok game. Quote
sketchley Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Uhm, the second one was designed by Kazutaka Miyatake. It doesn't say who did the first one, but it doesn't have some of the signature things that Shoji Kawamori adds to his lineart (funky shadow, bold (both thick and the way he put pen to paper) lines, etc..) grebo guru Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 (edited) You're right. The bottom one is by Miyatake. My bad. And as for the first one, that shadow looks fairly funky to me... and Kawamori IS credited in the game for mecha design. I'm pretty sure the first one is done by him, but just to be sure let's call the YF-31 a Studio Nue design, and that'll do. And "you're welcome" for posting the pics. Zinjo Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 The "YF-31" shrongly reminds me of the Battle 7. Are you sure Miyatake didn't design that one? Possibly a collaboration? Quote

Graham Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Here's something some people may not have seen before... We have had multiples topics on the Rafaga and Tech Romancer posted over the last few years. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...2&hl=Rafaga http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...0&hl=Rafaga But nice pics anyway, at least one of them I hadn't seen before. drifand Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Miyatake is always getting the short end of the stick while Shoji basks in the limelight... :-) Quote
chrono Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 So that's what a Macross 7 design(hybridized designs anyways) & an VF-1 design looks like crammed together! Quote
Veritas Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 so its like a mech fighting game? Yes it is. Man I haven’t played that game in years. It was a great game though, just wish there were more characters/bots to choose from. As far as I know I think it was only released in the Arcades and on the DC though. Quote
Solscud007 Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Old news. I have the game guides and artbooks Quote
Knight26 Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Seen it before, cool design though, would make a nice addition to the Macross universe, maybe CAS valkyrie Quote
Retracting Head Ter Ter Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Seen it before, cool design though, would make a nice addition to the Macross universe, maybe CAS valkyrie I suppose all valks already have a CAS mode built in, being the Gerwalk mode. Quote
reddsun1 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Hmm, initial impression I get from the general outlines of the shape? Aliens-dropship-meets-Cobra-gunship...oh, and with a fat, dragonfly bulby tail-like thing... Quote
