holytoledo69 Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 (edited) Nice picture review of the SPEC Layzner from Pony-san, although he feels the sculpt is slightly off: http://pony-hp3.web.infoseek.co.jp/TS-LAYZNER.htm I bought this today because the window box allowed me to see the gleam of metal in the chest, elbows and whole of the lower legs. Pretty well made although I found the leg armor tends to slip out of position when posing the legs. I enjoyed the fact that there was ZERO sprue-cutting required. Haven't ried the SFX in the stand but it is very sturdy and well-detented. Layzner's groin clips securely onto the post for plenty of great poses. I paid 90 SGD for mine. Mine came in too. Its not as bad as everyone thinks. Most people are probably put off with this figure cause of its size... It is about 5.5 inches.. almost as tall as the Walker Gallia if not taller. It looks to be 1/72 scale looking at its pilot. Im not sure if any of the armor has any metal content but the upper joints, lower chest and most of the lower endoskeleton is metal, so thats enough for me. The plus sides of this figure is its sculpt and posablity. Its one of those figures you cant really judge just by looking at pictures of it on the net. The stand is a neat plus as you can pose it in almost any (flying) angle. The sound effects are so-so but I dont understand what theyre saying (help someone?) in japanese. It looks like you have to push buttons in some sort of sequence to get different "phrases" and "sound effects". I thought that little green (blue?) sphere on its base would light up.. to simulate it being engulfed it energy just like the show.. but alas no. (unless there's a sequence of buttons one has to push) That voice might be the Layzner's AI pilot but Im not sure (Werent there 2 on-board AI's?) Sorry for lack of pics but there is a 1/48 scale version of it here if anyone's intrested. (its a model) I would of prefered it this size but Im happy with it. Paid 85 USD (including shipping) and gets a 8/10 score. Edited March 4, 2007 by holytoledo69
ruskiiVFaussie Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 (edited) Does anyone think that the Spec Eva line could introduce other Eva types? For example EVA-02. That'd be interesting to see an armourless Eva-02. Quad eyes... bad ass Edited March 5, 2007 by ruskiiVFaussie

Mowe Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 (edited) I think the original EVA SOC and the new Eva Spec are really 2 different breed of fishes. Both have advatages and disadvantages over the others. I love to collect both lines. If it is any comfort to you, MasterOfPuppet, the recent bidding prices of the original SOC on Yahoo JP are going bananas, I saw some people willing to pay $150 for the yellow Eva and close to $100 for Eva002. I can't quite work out why the frenzy, given that the original Eva SOC were recently re-released and if there is demand, Bandai is likely to re-release them again when the upcoming new Eva series is aired. Anyway, if you want to pocket some cash, now is the best time to let go your original SOC. I want to see improvement with the next Eva Spec, better paint job, more changable head, and weapeons, and I WANT EVA05!!!!! I'm hoping they just do Eva-01 or my SOC Evas are gonna feel like wasted money... Edited March 5, 2007 by Mowe

Those prices are insane seeing as how the yellow Unit 00 doesn't seem all to expensive on eBay (last I checked).
promethuem5 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Hmmm...sounds like I made out like a bandit gettiny my Blue 00' right as the SPEC came out.
Mowe Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 (edited) I wasn't kidding when I said the EVA SOC is going through another round of bidding madness...YHJP Edited March 7, 2007 by Mowe
drifand Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Came across an old Japanese link that reviewed the original color DX Aquarion: http://members9.tsukaeru.net/ty1_toys/toys/DX_Aquarion01.htm
Dante74 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I wasn't kidding when I said the EVA SOC is going through another round of bidding madness...YHJP ...which is weird cause there's still plenty around. Toy-Wave still has a couple of SOC's available.
MasterOfPuppets Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I wasn't kidding when I said the EVA SOC is going through another round of bidding madness...YHJP Well for Eva-02 it really isn't surprising. The price on that one has been around $100 for a while now. I was luckily able to score one in January for $50 before shipping because the seller listed the BIN at the wrong price. Next day the seller changed it to $89.99. And the yellow Eva-00 is still around the $50 price range on eBay. And the rest of em have been reissued.
ruskiiVFaussie Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 (edited) ...which is weird cause there's still plenty around. Toy-Wave still has a couple of SOC's available. Heh, there was the Eva-02 SOC for 60 something bucks but apparently it was "out of stock" after i ordered it. Bet anyones money it was more of taking a quick squiz at what they were worth on Ebay then ohh sorry... Sorry Ken, your service was shoddy, and you never got back to me. 1st impressions last! So i bought mine from them no hopers at Treasure Island, for about 90. AND I LOVE IT. I'll take a piccy of what i got her displayed as. You should see what poor Shinji is going through. I am all for the EVA-02 SPEC. Edited March 9, 2007 by ruskiiVFaussie
Mowe Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 He..he...I dig this up. Don't say they didn't warn you... Speaking of blood, becareful putting those fist spikes on. I slipped when I was putting them on and a couple of spikes stabbed me under my cuticles!!! OUCHness!!!! yessss I bled and there was pain (not that I enjoyed it hehehe) I rate it 7/10 removing 3 points for bleeding... [attachmentid=40993]
holytoledo69 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 He..he...I dig this up. Don't say they didn't warn you... [attachmentid=40993] Actually these spikes were the ones that did me in... Photo courtesy of Josh of CollectionDX
promethuem5 Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Both my Blue 00' and SPEC Eva arrived today... I was absolutley thrilled when I got home to find both packages. Got both out and put together... the SPEC Eva is simply gorgeous, and incredibly detailed and articulated... it still looks a tad bit poofy in the chest and thighs like I was afraid of, but that's not big deal. For a durable feeling and FUN to play with toy, however, the SoC Eva wins hands down...I'm already flippin it around my desk and stuff having a blast. I'm so pleased with both...
ruskiiVFaussie Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Whats the weight of the SPEC like compared to the SOCs? I love the weight of my SOC Eva-02. Feels badass as it looks. How about poseability? Which one is the more poseable?
promethuem5 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 The SoC Eva weighs more than the SPEC, but the SPEC really is far more posable... I just still can't help think it feels less solid than the SoC... the whole inner body EASILY could have been diecast, and I'd have happily payed for it.
wolfx Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 My friend who bought the SPEC complained that its jaw was loose and every time he moves the head, the jaw drops. Anyone has this problem?
Dante74 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 I just ordered the spec EVA from HLJ, along with a Revoltech 'well hung' Type Zero. I'm hoping Bandai releases all the EVA's in the Spec line, but please Bandai, make the armor on the the EVA-04 die-cast. The shiny crome look on my SOC EVA-04 looks so much better than the plastic look on the Revoltech EVA-04.
Sebastian Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 My friend who bought the SPEC complained that its jaw was loose and every time he moves the head, the jaw drops. Anyone has this problem? No problems with mine.
promethuem5 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 (edited) The jaw on mine comes off when you open the jaw, but not when you move the head. It' not terrible, but a tad annoying... and its a small bit so it's something to pay attention to. Alright, one more thing... melee weapons for the SoC Evas... waste of time? The hands can't hold any of the CQC weapons... kinda disapointing. The Spear of Longinus barely stays in place bc/ it's tapered, but the Sonic Glaive is worthless... wish there was a thrid set of hands for holding the straight handled weapons... Mihgt just donate the Spear and Glaive to the SPEC Eva. Edited March 10, 2007 by promethuem5
Mowe Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 The Jaw itself is not the problem. It drops when you turn the head too extreme (to left or right) and it runs into the the yellow neck muscle, forcing the jaw to drop. A minor design flaw but acceptable. My friend who bought the SPEC complained that its jaw was loose and every time he moves the head, the jaw drops. Anyone has this problem?
Dante74 Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 (edited) Found some pics of the SOC GX-36 Ideon. link *EDIT* If you click on index on the bottom of the page you'll see more SOC stuff. Edited March 13, 2007 by Dante74
holytoledo69 Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Thanks for the links. Im still a bit "iffy" about wether to pick this figure up or not. Its huge, a combiner..but the "plain" looking head sort of kills it for me.
drifand Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Thanks for the links. Im still a bit "iffy" about wether to pick this figure up or not. Its huge, a combiner..but the "plain" looking head sort of kills it for me. For pricey SOCs, when in doubt, WAIT. They always get reissued (eventually); sometimes they're improved (GX-01R), and cheaper too (SOC Dancouga). Check out the actual reviews before taking the plunge, especially if it's not a childhood hero reincarnate.
Macross73 Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Just got the Aoshima Black Getter today. I wish I'd started getting Aoshima figures sooner. This thing is pretty cool. I was worried about size and the weight of the figure. its solid and in line with the SOC figures. Now I have to get the others in this series too bad some of them are hard to find now.
fulcy Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Just got the Aoshima Black Getter today. I wish I'd started getting Aoshima figures sooner. This thing is pretty cool. I was worried about size and the weight of the figure. its solid and in line with the SOC figures. Now I have to get the others in this series too bad some of them are hard to find now. The Aoshima figures are excellent - I have alot of them, and the only one I got rid of was Mazinkaiser, because I wanted to get the Max Factory Mazinkaiser. They are heavy, feel solid - the only drawback really is the limited articulation/poseability...
Macross73 Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 I haven't tried to get it to do action poses . Its certainly is well built . I'll be looking to get some more Aoshima in the future . The "...the Max Factory Mazinkaiser. " and the others in that series look fantastic , if the price was more manageable I'd be all over those.
R_Deckard Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 I love my Aoshima Mazinakaiser. The Max Factory is a little nicer, but very different. Smaller and not nearly as massive and heavy. The max factory is perfect standing next to your SOC Mazingers. But if you have the Aoshima Daishogun (one of my favorties), you will need a Aoshima Mazinkaiser to stand next to that monster. I still can't find the original Aoshima Japanese Black wings version of Mazinkaiser or the latest Normal Red wings version. I've been searching ebay for months.
Macross73 Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 (edited) The original Mazinkaiser is that the same as the limited see in this auction I'm not that sure since I'm not that familiar with all figures available. edit: If had the extra cash right now I'd get these. though i'm not sure if the price is right or not Fewture Black Getter Robo Ryoma http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...mMakeTrack=true FEWTURE MODEL EX CHOGOKIN GETTER ROBO 1,2,3 LIMITED http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...mMakeTrack=true Edited March 22, 2007 by Macross73
R_Deckard Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 (edited) Yeah that fewture black getter is sick, but the price is too retarded even for me. On the Aoshima Mazinkaiser versions, very confusing. I already have that one you posted, that's the new Black Version. I finally figured out the versions a while ago. fulcy Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 The Black Fewture Getter - if you're able to find it - is DEFINITELY worth getting. Check out the review here: http://www.plamowarrior.com/id45.html http://www.plamowarrior.com/id44.html I have one (got it when it first went on sale, so didn't pay an extreme price for it), and couldn't be happier with it...
promethuem5 Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Those Fewture Getters sure are gorgeous, but man are they expensive and hard to find...
Twoducks Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Wish I’d bought Fewture Getter 1 and 2 three months ago. What I ended up doing with the extra cash was even more retarded (and a LOT more costly) than buying some stupid expensive toys.
Guppy Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Got the Fewture Getter 1.. secretly ashamed of how much I paid for it (which was the standard retail price) - I would love a Black Getter but it will never happen unless I win lotto.
Sebastian Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I have the Black Fewture Getter one, normal Getter one and the Getter two. While they are expensive I think they are pure toy porn and actually I dont mind paying the original asking price. They worth it. The eBay prices are other story...
