Dobber Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Sorry I took so long UN Spacey. I now have all 3 fighter pretty much finished! These are my 3 Space Battleship Yamato fighters, the Cosmo Zero, Black Tiger, and the Cosmo Tiger II. The Black Tiger and Tiger II still need the drop tanks and missiles added but otherwise are done. Hope you all like, these are great little kits!! UN Spacy Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Simply gorgeous. All three fighters just ooze that sweet Matsumoto style excellence. Are you planning to give em a dull coat? How long did the decal process take? Thanks Dobber for taking the time to resize and put em all online. Quote
Dobber Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Thanks! They do have a dull coat on them, but I think the lighting may be giving them the illusion of a slight shine. Decaling took I think 2 days per ship with working being about a few hours per day!! As you can see the decaling is quite extensive!! I brought them to my local hobby club this past week and when people looked at them up close and saw all the detail...ie paneling and decals, they were shocked that there was sooo much for the size of these models!! Thanks again!!! Chris Quote
UN Spacy Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Would any of you fellow Yamato fans know if the Cosmo Zero and Black Tiger are still available online? Quote
Dobber Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Sorry, the only thing I can find is the Tiger II at starshipmodeler, and they have 5 left of those. Chris Quote
myk Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 I've spent the last decade or so, dreaming about the day I'd be able to watch Season 2 of Star Blazers, the Comet Empire. My own memories as well as the testimony of fans all over the world state that season 2 is the greatest of the Space Cruiser Yamato stories and timeline. So here I am watching it finally, and I'm completely underwhelmed. Hopefully, one of you guys can help me make sense of the story at the very least and keep me from throwing the box set into the streets. Ok, so Derek and the Starforce go out of their way to hijack the Argo, in the process destroying units of the Earth Defense Force, risk their lives for about half of the season just to get to Telezart and meet up with Treleina. When they meet with Treleina what happens? Nothing! She proceeds to tell Derek and the gang that the Comet Empire is about a month away from Earth. Great, it's not as if everyone in the universe didn't already know that-hell everyone knew that BEFORE the Argo even left Earth! They wasted half of a season on a pointless journey, from what I can tell. Now, I'm assuming that the hacked up US version of season 2 is responsible for this confusion, and I'm hoping that one of you is more familiar with the REAL story, if there even is one. Nostalgia? Meh... Quote
Keith Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 (edited) The solution is simple. http://www.shopanimedvd.com/product_info.php?products_id=833 And while you're at it, pick up the 1st & 3rd sets as well. The subtitles aren't perfect, but still pretty damn good for HK sets. As for the story, its actually been a few years since I've watched, but as I remember, the reason she didn't help out further was because the Comet Empire already kicked the crap out of her planet before the Yamato got there. Or perhaps she was already dead & just a shadow of herself. Hell, what do you want, she resurrected Shima, what more can you ask? Although if I'm remembering correctly, towards the end she does use the last of her power to slow down the Comet Empire , but like I said It's been a few years, so I'm a bit fuzzy on that. http://www.shopanimedvd.com/product_info.php?products_id=832 http://www.shopanimedvd.com/product_info.php?products_id=834 Looks like Voyager's official page (starblazers.com) doesn't even have the movie box up for sale anymore, but you may be able to find it used if you search around a bit. myk Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Thanks for the link to the HK sets. Not too crazy about the idea of buying into the HK stuff, but what's a man to do. As for the story, it just doesn't make sense to me: the Starforce and their hijacked ship bite and claw their way to Telezart just so Treleina can tell them something they already know. I don't know. Like I said, I'm hoping the uncut version can fill in the pieces... Quote
Keith Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 You're worrying too much about specifics, & not enough about the awesoness of what's going on. Without Yamato 2, Star Trek III wouldn't have had the Excelsior sabotaging/Enterprise stealing scene to rip-off. Pick up the Japanese version, and watch the awesomeness that is the end of this series. The Comet Empire doesn't go down even remotely easy, and the events are a marvel to behold. Quote
Beltane70 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Yes, they knew the comet was headed for Earth. What they didn't know was its actual nature and how it was actually connected to the new, undidentified enemy. With the Comet Empire jamming Teresa's (the original name of Trelena). What the Yamato crew was hoping to do was to try and get Teresa to help them fight the Empire, which she initially refused. Plus, the second series is just an elaboration of the story that was told in the movie, Space Battleship Yamato 2. As for the story, its actually been a few years since I've watched, but as I remember, the reason she didn't help out further was because the Comet Empire already kicked the crap out of her planet before the Yamato got there. Actually, she didn't help out further because she was the one responsible for destroying Telesart and didn't want to kill anyone else. The people of her own planet were involved in a great war and she used her powers to try and stop it. Not knowing just how powerful she was, Teresa winds up wiping out her entire planet's civilization. Quote
Keith Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 That's right, I knew it was something of that sort. I need to stick Yamato back & my viewing queue. Quote

I still think it's silly that they decided to respond to Teresa's call, only to decide that they needed to head back to Earth pronto and help fight the Comet Empire... If they hadn't left at all, the Yamato would still be mothballed, & the crew broken up. This way everyone got a good warm up before the big fight. Finish watching, there is epicness in that last half. Quote
jasonk19 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 If any of you are interested in the differences between the Japanese and US versions of the 1st and 2nd seasons of Yamato/Star Blazers, you should select in the left column: The Star Blazers You Didn't See, by Walter Amos at http://www.desslok.com/ I was somewhat surprised at the edits, more having to do with being a kid at the time and not knowing about the removed/edited parts. Enjoy. Quote
myk Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Thanks for the link. I happened upon that site but didn't scroll down far enough to see the section you pointed out. Well, I have to say that the final showdown between Desslock and Wildstar was a powerful, evocative scene, every bit as strong as I remember it from the '80s. This story really kicks in during the last 8 episodes or so... Quote
Gubaba Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Something that's been bugging me off and on for many years... I distinctly remember Star Blazers movies on TV when the series was first shown in the U.S. Right when the first series wrapped up, they showed a movie called "Derek Wildstar and the Gamilons," followed the next night by "Derek Wildstar and the Comet Empire." I remember the first one VERY clearly, because my parents let me watch the first hour, but then wanted to watch TV themselves, so I was cheesed off as only a seven-year-old can be, and I didn't get to see the end. Needless to say, they didn't even let me watch the beginning of the second movie. Now, I'm assuming these were dubs of the first Yamato movie and Farewell, Space Battleship Yamato, but I've been unable to find any information at all on the internets...like they never existed. I don't think my memory is playing tricks on me...does anyone else remember them...? Quote
Keith Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 www.starblazers.com has them subtitled for sale in a box set. Don't think the dub of the movies ever hit DVD, and hopefully never will! Quote

Well...that's the thing. There seem to be no references anywhere to the dubs. I don't really want to see them, I just want to make sure that they existed, and that my memory isn't completely terrible. Quote
Keith Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Dubs for all 5 movies existed, they're just long out of print. I'm pretty sure the first movie was dubbed & released in theaters before the first series aired over here. Quote

The dub of the second movie was ok. The really funny part was the famous blooper when Desslock slipped up and called the Yamato the Argo. Great stuff. Taksraven Quote

I'm pretty sure the first movie was dubbed & released in theaters before the first series aired over here. It's always been my understanding that only the first two movies were ever dubbed. There was the late 70s edited dub of the first movie (done before the Star Blazers dub), that was given a limited theatrical release in the UK, followed by a later video release. This one cut out quite a bit to keep the running time low, and seems to have been based on the Japanese TV broadcast of the movie that actually had a new (shorter) ending animated for it, where Starsha is merely a hologram. The second movie was dubbed by Voyager themselves and released straight to video. Despite being a video release, they too cut out huge chunks of the film. Never heard of any of the other three movies ever being dubbed after these attempts, although Final Yamato which is still apparently the record-holder for the longest animated film would've been quite an endurance test anyway! Gubaba Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 So no one else remembers this...? Hmm...maybe I am losing my mind... Quote

UN Spacy Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Heads up folks! Nishizaki is finally out of jail and already trying to start up yet another Yamato film. It's too bad that him and Matsumoto will never kiss and make up to make another Space Cruiser Yamato flick. http://www.tokyograph.com/news/id-3598 Quote
myk Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Heads up folks! Nishizaki is finally out of jail and already trying to start up yet another Yamato film. Lol. I wonder how many times they'll have to resurrect and kill off characters as well as the Yamato itself... Quote
Keith Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Nishizaki is looney toons, and not in the entertaining kind of way. He already proved with Odin that he's borring as all hell without Matsumoto, just as Matsumoto has proved with everything he's ever done, that he's never needed Nishizaki. This is at least his 2nd attempt in the last 5-6 years to relaunch Yamato, after taking Matsumoto to court over series rights. Quote
Gubaba Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Nishizaki should just let it die...he's already sullied the proud "Yamato" name with a few episodes of "Yamato 2520," and the saga already has two fine endings. We really don't need more... Quote
myk Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 The only thing that has yet to be released is a diecast/plastic toy of the Andromeda; then the series can be laid to rest... Quote

Yea, I preordered the Daigokin Andromeda from a reputable seller in Hong Kong about a year ago, but he says Marmit keeps delaying. Strange, since the prototype they were showing already looked like it was almost there... http://www.marmit.co.jp/tuhan2/dgk-005a.htm Quote
Pizza the Hutt Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Sorry for posting on a old thread but I am so back into Star Blazers and I ordered a complete set of Series 1 after I already bought parts 1&2 at $20 a piece and just wondering if anyone else here still enjoys this show?, I like it because it is awesome in its own way and it saved me from the trauma I suffered watching "battle of the planets" that my older sister liked to watch (sorry to you G-force fans, but that show was terrible,I mean ninjas dressed up as birds,Come ON!) and if I don't die and my tax return comes fast I plan to get the dvd sets of Series 2 and 3. But I saw at starblazers.com that the Bolar Wars is part 3 but I remember only the Comet Empire, did part 3 ever air here in the states? been 30 years so I cant remember. Laters, Pete Quote
