kkx Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Hi, I did a quick search here and in the web, but didn't find any direct answer to this. I have both Tamiya and Gunze H-xx water based acrylic. Can I mix them ? It is ok to use the Tamiya thinner for the Gunze H-xx paint ? Thanks Quote
Penguin Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 While I usually try to use the same manufacturer when I mix paints, I have successfully mixed Tamiya and Gunze acrylics in the past. I've never tried using Tamiya thinner in Gunze, though, so I can't comment on that. Quote
Noyhauser Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I would say no. I find most company's paint formulations are pretty specific for their own products... I'm sure the thinner may "work" ... just not very well. It would be like using regular isopropylnol on regular tamiya paints. Quote
kkx Posted October 18, 2006 Author Posted October 18, 2006 Thanks for the hint, Penguin and Noyhauser. Ok, to be on the safe side, will try to avoid mixing them whenever possible. Because, once you mix them, there are two types of paint, and using either thinner will not be good, as Noyhauser said. So I guess mixing these two types of paint will works (as Penguin has experienced) but maybe results in paint with poorer performance. Quote
