Yay! another build up for me to live vicariously through!

Great work... one little comment though (not sure if you want to hear this :( ) but I got caught up in detailing too and made the same mistake as you. :p The VF-1D was a TV series Valk, and in the canon lineart, all the TV series valks don't have controls on the side panels, they have these green rectangular pillowy cushions for the arms (an armrest!). Oh well, I still think it looks better (more realistic) with side consoles.

Keep up the great work.

Painted the cockpit

Add nose weight to balance the head of the plane with the rest of the body.

The 'weight' is some old book shelves support superglued to the inside of the nose.

Nicely balance on a 2.5mm square rod. :)

Preshaded with brown and airbrushed the rest of the colours.

Mr Colour 'Orange' and 'Randome' (No. 318)

Just finish decalling.... stay tuned..

I am faster than I thought... tonight's update :)

It's Panel Line Time :)

I mix Tamiya Enamel Semi Gloss Black with Zippo Lighter fluid S$3.60.

(as I do not have good experience with enamel wash as it always cracks the plastic...)

Anyway.. the lighter fluid works great and easy to work with :)

Have not panel lined.

VF-1D_prog_16.JPG

Apply the lighter fluid wash.

Wipe off with tissue soak with lighter fluid.

The rest of the lovely panel lines :)

Wow, nice job. Keep 'em coming.

What's the mix ratio you use for the enamel and the lighter fluid?

I didnt measure the ratio, I just mix it till it looks like dirty water and then add more fluid as you go along. (It evaporates)

Excellent work! :D How did you hinge the canopy?

Thanks guys for the compliments :)

Maxtype, the canopy is hinge by a copper wire that was secured by drilling a tiny hole and super glued at the black part (DO NOT drill THROUGH the canopy).

And for the cockpit itself.. the copper wire was slotted into a small hole at the top in between the two 'round thingy' at the back of the seat.

Thanks!I'm working on a VF-1J MiriaType and I want an open canopy to show off the photo-etch and stuff.Got any idea's about how to do the boarding ladder? (brass wire, styrene strips,?)

I've got the same idea as well.. hmm.. you could also use the 1/272 Ground/Pilot Crew Set

I am using some things from that set(figures, toolboxes)along with the Hasegawa Weapons Loading Set.I may end up modifying the F-15 boarding ladder that comes with the Ground crew set-but I really want that pull-down ladder.

Remember the Bandai 1/72 scale Valk Fighter?Does anyone have a picture of the ladder that came in that set?

Great work there dude, I have some plans for what you are thinking, I have gathered that the boarding ladder might look similar to this:

It's more like this-a bit hard to see, sorry. look for the spindly ladder under the intake safety triangles.
