do not disturb Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 That's my next trick... how about that one trick where the 1/48 TV heads make there way to production? Quote
Hiriyu Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 I got my 1Js the other day, and I like them. If you can get them for the right price, these little guys are a lot of fun to mess around with and worth the cost IMHO. You can spend quite a bit more on a nice dinner than what a set of three of these will set you back. Comparisons to any Yamato, or virtually any other VF-1, save maybe Banprestos, are laughable at best - these are not high-buck, high-detail collectibles, they are nifty little toys that you can abuse without having cardiac arrest or brain hemorrhage in the event that one breaks. In that role, they excel. The joints on series 2 seem to be a little tighter than the last batch (or that may just be because they are fresh out of the box), the paint jobs are quite nice, and they do not have any of the silly raised skulls on the heatshields. For this reason, along with the nice paint, they really look better in Battroid mode than the first series does. I'd take some pics, but don't have a camera handy at the mo. If no one else steps up, I'll post some after Christmas. Quote
jodokast Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 so nightmare... what kit(s) you using to make fast packs for those things? I noticed your blue roses one now on the 1/100 customs page. Hehehe...gotta get some fast packs for my low-viz and have the pics reposted. Quote
nightmareB4macross Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 how about that one trick where the 1/48 TV heads make there way to production? Oh they're coming. Since my wife had our daughter I have only recently been allowed around paints. Next month it will be rubber molds and resin casts. Life and it's little compromises. ------------------------------------------------------------- For the Super/Strike Packs I'm going with the Bandai 1/100 VF-1D Super Valkyrie. It comes with the Super parts along with a different set of Strike parts. The level of detail on the Strike parts are much better than the counter parts. Quote
Lonely Soldier Boy Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Are they really worth? I mean, after what toynami did with the mpc´s I can get them here in Mexico for a good price but i don´t know if they worth. Where?! I saw them going for $ 600.00 (about 55 U$D) at Plaza Delta. They sure don't worth THAT kind of money. Quote
Alpha OTS Posted December 25, 2006 Posted December 25, 2006 (edited) Hi! I recently acquired the VF-1J set. QC is much better on these as the joints are much stiffer. Not to say that the joints were crappy on the previous set, they're just not near as good as these ones are. The blue and red coloring on Max and Milia is really nice. The VF-1J heads are on that same type of neck as the VF-1S. Its ok, but like the VF-1S its all just a bit too narrow. Anyway, I'm a little new to Macross. I wasn't aware that Max, Milia and Hikaru had numbered VF-1J's. The instructions say who has what number, but they don't point to where to apply them. I figured I'd put Hikaru's on the side of the nose under the cockpit like I did with the numbers in the last series. The problem is that Max and Milia's numbering is white and that part of the nose is white, so it would be pointless to put a white sticker on a white background. Are these supposed to be numbered anyway? If so, where? Edit: Oops, forgot that I wanted to say that I'm happy that toynami fixed the display cup in the second series. I've had mine on display, in a swooping jet mode pose no less, for over a week and no cracking! Edited December 25, 2006 by Alpha OTS Quote

Lonely Soldier Boy Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Here: http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-13...gure-3-pack-_JM 3 valk set for $1000 Mexican Pesos (about $90 dlls) sounds good. Thanks for the info. Yeah, it's the best price I've seen so far around here, but I think I'll wait 'till I can buy one at US retailer price and hold it in my hands before considering on buying sets. The common impression around these boards is that they worth what they cost and not a cent more, and only if Toynami keeps their promise of expanding the 1/100 line (which seems to be doubtful, and we are talking only about FP's. Let alone Destroids and enemy mecha!). Quote
jodokast Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 (edited) Finally got my hikaru, so here's a sneak peek at my camo vf-1a in progress. [attachmentid=39252] Edited December 26, 2006 by jodokast Quote
nightmareB4macross Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 (edited) That's a nice paint job, Judokast. Are you disassembling the VF-1s? Or are you still brush painting them all together? Edited December 26, 2006 by nightmareB4macross Quote

Still brush painting them and not disassembling them. I'm not heavy into the customization or model painting, so i don't have an airbrush. It's all about layering and applying paint liberally. Thankfully I also have a small enough brush to get under those nooks and crannies. These things are so small too, I figure the minuet detail of the strokes wouldn't be as noticeable as on a 1/48. jodokast Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Say hello to my little friends: [attachmentid=39270] Just got my VF-1J's, so here's a group picture in battroid mode of all of them. Here's another shot of just the camo one. [attachmentid=39271] Quote
Alpha OTS Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Here's another shot of just the camo one. Those customs are just too nice. Kudos! Quote
jenius Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Ugh, I'm really not liking the necks on these. Thanks for the pics! Quote
KiriK Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 wow!! great job on those custom 1/100's.... that Camo needs to be added to the Customs Gallery.... =] Quote
mojacko Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 the 1S n 1A are nice and proportion....but the 1J's.....eeeeerrrrr.... Quote
aaajin Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 like jenius's post, the nect is so freakin too unproportionedly long!....that's all I have to say Quote
jodokast Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 (edited) Interestingly enough, both the 1s and 1j have the exact same neck size. The 1s just has an elongated chin so it hides the neck. If the 1j had the same neck base as the 1a it would have definitely been a lot less fugly. I guess toynami just took the 1s mold and plopped a new head on it along w/ packaging and new heat shield. Shaggydog Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 I realize it's pretty standard MW procedure to obsess over stuff like this, and the neck is undeniably long. However, I just got my VF-1J, and it's an awesome little toy. With this series the quality seems greatly improved - all the joints are very tight, and nothing falls off. If you're looking for a cartoony valk that you can have fun with, this is your guy. And the neck isn't that noticeable if you tilt his head a bit. I think this line of toys has surpassed Takara's Actic Gear line in terms of quality, although it's not quite up to the level of HCM Pro. Quote
do not disturb Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 as if the oversized shoulders didn't make it look bad enough, the long neck/small head(however you wanted to preceive it) makes it look even worse. perhaps the 1J's should be displayed in fighter mode only.... Quote

It's really only bad from a straight-on view, which, due to the size of the figure, is not really a big deal. Shift your view a couple of degrees up or down, and it's a non-issue (kind of like the sides of a Yammie 1/48 ). The 1Js look great in gerwalk mode IMHO, but the fighter modes kind of uniformly suck across the 1/100 range, if you ask me, which you didn't I'll try to bring home a camera so I can get some more complimentary shots posted soon. nightmareB4macross Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I just got my 1/100 Series 2, and I hate to say it but I like these a lot!! The only down side for me is that neck is a bit high and there are no Fast Packs available. I guess I'll just have to make more custom Fast Packs. ***and my own GBP-1S. Quote
jenius Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I just got my 1/100 Series 2, and I hate to say it but I like these a lot!! There should be no hating to say it. It's a Macross toy on the cheap and not a half bad one. If I weren't at work 13 hours a day right now I think I would have totally bought these by now. There's something cool about a toy you can handle and not worry at all about the huge expense you'll incur should you accidentally break it... which is kind of the spirit of what a toy should be right? Once I breed successfully and my children are sufficiently aged I'm pretty sure these little buggers will be their indoctrination to Macross (I better have locking cabinets by then). Quote

I still hate to say it. After all, it's Toynami. You might want to think twice about letting kids loose on these. They got tons of parts that are easily mistaken for candy. Yummmmmm, AAAAAARRRGHHH (cough, cough). Quote
mister_e Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Just got my series 2 yesterday. I hate the long necks, but they look OK if you tilt the head a bit or as long as you're not looking at them straight-on. The joints seem much tighter on these than series 1. The first series wasn't what I would call floppy, but noticeably looser than series 2. They're not my favorite Macross toy, but since I only paid $55.00 shipped for these, I definitely don't regret the purchase. Quote

Yummmmmm, AAAAAARRRGHHH (cough, cough). I definitely wouldn't plan on letting my hypothetical children near them too young. But I remember playing with my transformers as a kid and so at that point in development I think a kid could do fine with these. Knowing most children the missiles will never be on the plane and the heatshield will never get swapped anyway. The trickier part is finding the woman appropriate to carry my seed... keeping the inevitible genetic developments from choking hazards will hopefully be easier... hopefully Quote

mister_e Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Finally got around to opening the rest of my 1/100's and thought I'd share a quick little pic. Not at all bad considering that I got them all for around $140; about the price of one Yamato 1/48. I REALLY need those Super/Strike parts. You hear me Toynami? [attachmentid=39534] Quote

[attachmentid=39534] hmm, I like the VF-1A heads, but the rest of them look kinda dopey. The VF-1J head looks pretty dopey on all toys except the 1/48s, but even the Banpresto VF-1S head looks better than that. Are they as loose as Banprestos? Quote
mister_e Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Are they as loose as Banprestos? I'm not sure about that - I don't have a Banpresto. Series 1 is not what I would call super tight, but they're far from floppy. Series 2 seem to have even tighter joints than series 1. Quote

I'll probably end up getting just one of these, just to have one in that scale, but I'm gonna stick with the big boy toys as far as collecting. Quote
jenius Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 (edited) The 1/100s are a huge improvements over the Banprestos. Lest we forget this picture from my original 1/100 review? By the by, I ordered my second series from Kevin (aka Valk Exchange) at a great price. I'll be putting up a review for them on my website in the coming month. I'm too busy to promise anything sooner though. I still have to get through the Yamato launch arms, 1/60 VF-0S, and some vintage toys first... Edited January 13, 2007 by jenius Quote

nightmareB4macross Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 u guys are making me tempted to gt some of these.... You really should get at least one to see if you like it. Then of course, you will buy a set, or series. I'm not saying there great, but you can't go wrong with the size and fun factor. Quote
Mechafan Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 u guys are making me tempted to gt some of these.... For the size and price I would recommend them. Only the limited edition cost me MSRP or more the rest I got at less than MSRP. I have 11 so far. Quote
