Roy Focker Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 We have it good Yes imports are expensive and things would have easier but things are still good product wise. When Macross first came out (and Robotech too) we were kids. Now we are adults. Macross products that come out now are geared towards the adult collector. With the expection of some Toynami items. Macross items are for the adult collector willing to pay more for some thing good. Some toy makers appear to refuse to think the adult collector is worth going after. Take Hasbro. It thinks the adult Star Wars collectors are worth it but have only been throwing small bones to the G.I.Joe adult collector. Most that stuff is cheap and poor quality but the suck ups praise it anyways for fear they will get nothing. I heard Hasbro might finally make some high quality figure for the adult collector. Still many collectors of various toy lines have hot down old items or settle for the cheap kiddie crap. I don't know how many kids in Japan own a VF-1 but it is nice to be an adult collector of a franchise that makes things that appeal to us. Quote

I'm 32 and when I was your age I only dreamed in getting at least a jetfire. I think all of us who are over 30 are really amazed with the improvements over the first VF toys (Bandai and Takatoku). Mechafan Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Yes we have that good life. I can now get the Valks I always wanted. The big thing now is running out of space. I am glad it is gear more the adult fans in like Hasbro's approch. Hats off to Yamato for getting the ball rolling again and making the best Valks. Quote
kensei Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 We live in a lucky world mate. I gotta tell you that. I never thought that I would have so much Macross stuff I would want to buy! Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Damn right we have it good. Instead of paying up thee ass for a 1/55, not too long ago we could have one or 40$. Now tell me noone wasdreaming that poo would happen back in the mid 90s!! Man it reminds me of the first time macrossworld was around. We were ALL hunting for the 1/55 in any which way or form, worshipped jetfire, and all waited to see what masterpiece Jung, and Rosario Love would turn up. Those were the days, the days when the 1/55 wasn't overshadowed but anything else and when we kept battying about how bandai would never put one out. BVut some things never change! Like even now, we still batty for a 1/55 strike, ELINT seeker and Super O HELL YES!! Quote
wolfx Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Hmmm..actually i wonder if our parents are to blame for our toy collecting fetish. If they actually got me what i wanted last time, i probably wouldn't be collecting every other cool looking valk/toy today. >_< Quote
jenius Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 You know, my parents were great to me as far as Transformers go and I don't collect them now. I'm sure they would have hooked me up with Robotech toys too (I'm American and at that age Robotech was all I knew about) if I ever knew to ask for Robotech toys. Problem was, I didn't get huge into Robotech until like 1990 and by that time you couldn't find merchandise for it anywhere. I wanted RT merchandise so bad I would have dreams about it. I spent my days reading those RT novels and drawing the vehicles from every saga (even Southern Cross!). I watched the shows over and over again in their FHE version. I used to scour the Longs Drugs models section hoping to find an old RT model that somehow managed to stay on the shelves. So, it's no wonder that when I got out of college and started making decent enough money and discovered a whole new world of toys that I actually began making my old dreams reality.... little did I know how costly it would become. Still, I'm grateful to Yamato and every other company making the toys I once dreamed about, the more the merrier. I've actually been pretty surprised by just how high quality all of the new Macross (and Robotech if you believe what they tell you) toys have been. We got the really crappy Banprestos and then everything else was meant to be collectors dealies. That's part of the reason I'm happy to see Toynami producing what looks to be decent equivalents of your standard GI Joe toy... something you can play with, beat to death, then replace (the 1/100s that is).
