I remember when I got my 1st 1/48 scale Yamato valk. Up until then, I'd just gotten toynami MPCs and toynami super poseables. My wife goes "This yamato toy has a huge penis." Since then, it's kind of hard to look at a valk in battroid mode without noticing its got a huge wang hangin' down.

So when you take off the nose cone, you're Bobbit-izing it. :p

My wife says "cool" but she's not really into the mecha. She likes Max and Miria though. Both of us wish someone would gag Mylene and throw her out an airlock though.

My best friend thought that my valks were awesome, since he's a big Macross fan. So I got him a Roy valk for his birthday!

"Holy CRAP, I didn't realize you were a nerd. Hey guys, check this out, Chris is a huge nerd. OOOh, do you like playing with your transformers Chris? Huh, do you?? Is this your big trick to impress the ladies? 'Hey baby, you should see my Optimus....'"

I used to object saying "Um, I don't own a single Transformer" but now I just throw the spectator a beer and suggest we leave my abode.

The other day my two aunts and grandma saw my collection in my house, and they told me: Oh my god, this definitly are not toys for children, and I told them, definitly! and I said the price of my low vis 1, and they said:whaaaattttttt!!!!!!!and since that day they look me like a very important person with a very expensive hobby!!! :D:D:D

Depends on the gender of my guests. Males usually respond with a "WTF! Aw, cool!" Girls-"Oh hell no, and then walk right out the place..."

I have had people ask "why are you interested in this?" and make a confused face.

I like respond "why are you an apeface?"

or

if I don't like them "Have you considered that it might be that I enjoy these things? Or that you might be stupid?"

i've also gotten mixed reactions.... to the guys that walk into my place.... nostalgia will make em say "awesome!!!"... and to the ladies.... errr... i direct to my GF's collection of disney stuff and they're in awe....

you're a dork

you're a nerd

whats wrong with you

I get that too .... or, "you're too old to have toys" ....

Thankfully, my wife understands and lets me have 'em.

This is why I hide my collection out of sight. It is for my personal enjoyment and mine alone. Along with my european porn collection... (J/K)

Seriously, I usually can judge who will find it cool and who will be baffled by it. So I'm selective about who I show my collection to.

All is kool except my Mother. Her reactions tells me she disapproves of my interest and hobbies. I love her, but can you believe that my biological mother does not support my personal interest. After all, when I was a kid she bought me a few transformers.

By the way, where do you guys find a wife or girlfriend who truly support and RESPECT your Macross interest? Are they like nerds too or what? Haha im kiddin.

Let's see...

When my parents saw my valks and figures they go "Is that what you have been spending your paycheck on?"

When my co-workers saw the collection they go "Cool, I bet you got more of those hidden in a storage place eh? Har...har...har..."

When my girlfriend saw the collection "Wow! You have good taste!" That includes the slightly ero figures I have on display...

When my best friend sees the Yamato valks he tells me that is why HG and the Homotech pirates will never succeed. :)

no one has yet seen my collection ...

well, there was once I show the pic of my 1/3000 takatoku sdf-1 to my colleagues, and after I told them how much I spent for it, all of them laugh as if I am a moron.

one of them, a girl... even called me stupid

My mates tell me off and say..."You could have got a car...a GOOD car at that...WITH a turbo....!"

Posted

I already got the cool car nd a good girlfriend and the only comments I get are "why can't you get a cheaper hobby". Good times are my childhood memories though.

I get mostly positive reactions. My collection is displayed in a nice glass and wood cabinet with a sliding glass door. I think sometimes the difference between an appreciative reaction or a negative reaction has a lot to do with how the collection is presented.

For those that completely don't get it...It is not so much a matter of them thinking less of me as I think less of them. I honestly think to myself .."what kind of person is unable to find anything cool about these things that are so cool?"

Then I throw them out of my house!

Tell that broad she is stupid for spending her bills on shoes and purse!

Most people are indiferent when they see my collection (Maybe they prefer not to make a commentary) but the worst I ever had was (when they saw my CM's collection): "If you have so many dolls, you must be a little gay and you don't know it" At that moment, I was so surprised I didn't know what to say. I really don't care right now.

My friends like to call me "Peter Pan" - cos I play with toys and never grew up. :D

When we rented and the agents did their regular inspection, after the lady would get to the spare room and see 'it',her expression read something like "uh oh, this freak is a serial killer.. don't make any sudden moves.. back away slowly to the exit.."

My mother just thinks I am mad and/or semi-retarded for collecting toys. :D

eh, most of the people I bring over collect this stuff anyway. So all I get are:

-Damn it! I need that!

-You have doubles, sell/trade me one!

-Where did you get that?

-Why are there so many bags? (I keep most if not all my boxed toys in plastic bags to protect from dust) ;):D:p:lol:

You forgot... Holy cow, when was the last time a girl has set foot in this room!?!

None of my friends collect this stuff, and they all think it's cool I have such a weird hobby, but truly don't understand it. Only my engineer friend appreciates the new CAD aided Yamato and Takara toys.

My wife just puts up with it as long as they stay nicely presented in my glass-doored bookshelves in the den. She doesn't appreciate when they "escape" to other rooms in the apartment.

I work with a national sports team, and I've never announced my weird hobby to them although one day one of the guys googled me and found my old custom Simpsons action figures and found me out. no big deal.

If you can keep your nerdy side in check with your well-adjusted cool side than it really shouldn't phase people (except those people robomatt was talking about that i don't respect either). And let's face it, some of us at macross world probably exude dorkiness so showing people our weird hobby would just go to confirm their already formed opinion.

Only 2 of my friends know of my collection (childhood friends)- they think they're cool and all, but would never spend that kind of $$ on nostalgia. Of course, these were the F***ers who had all the toys as kids, while I had zilch  .

My wife says nothing and understands it's just another thing I do to keep my sanity when I can't crank my electric guitars.

My 3-yr always says "Daddy, your robot fell down" when the valks are in fighter mode. :)

All the valks are kept in a built-in A/V nook in the basement where it's cool and dark, so most house visitors don't get to see how weird I really am. Of course, my in-laws are staying for the week in the basement, so they're sleeping with the valks every night. Not a word from them yet

I swear, my wife had no idea I'd catch the Macross flu once we got hitched. It's her fault. She bought me the cursed Robotech saga after I got her hooked on anime... anyways, she still loves me and as long as I buy her stuff too, she's happy. My advice to anybody out there, don't marry any girl who doesn't like anime in the first place. People who don't like anime suck. Underscore that.
