cool8or Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I'm interested, but I can't spend this money right now. I'll must to wait to see when the Helmet will be ready. Quote
ruskiiVFaussie Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 So what colour will everyone have their TV helm schemed as? 423219 A Hikaru one would be Iconic as next to the SDF1, VF1 and may be Minmay it`s easily the most recognised thing in Macross 423255 Yeah that's what i'm thinkin as well. Roy's is just too dark and wouldn't be an instant draw to the middle of the room as Hikaru's helm would be. Plus Hikaru is more of a hero to myself than Roy. It's a hard one but i'll go with Hikaru! If we get to see the Zero helms being made i'd have that as a tribute to Roy. Quote
Skullsixx Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I am planning on buying an ATV soon and I'll need a helmet. It would kick ass to have one of these!!! I'm hoping the color scheme will either be Roy's or Isamu's. Quote

Or are you just funnin Quote
recon Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Hi GM, Just curious what would be the helment contructed of? Tks. Any plans to do the DYRL version, as im more interested in the deep space version? Cheers Quote
GeneralMayhem Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 (edited) The stock helmet will be cast resin. I can add fiberglass reinforcement for a small fee. As far as whether it would "crash rated". I'm not qualified to say. The initial buildup is being made over a real crash helmet. Copies will be cast from that. After the run of Series version, I do plan a DYRL version as well, if there are solid orders for it. In short, if people are buying it, I'm going to make it. If not, I'll move on to other projects. ruskiiVFaussie Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 (edited) Fibre glass reinforcement? Would that detract or add to the look in any way? Edited August 8, 2006 by ruskiiVFaussie Quote
GeneralMayhem Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Fibre glass reinforcement? Would that detrack or add to the look in any way? 423371 It goes on the inside of the helmet, so it doesn't affect the look at all. Quote
Mechinyun Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 (edited) I think he means the helmet will be thicker from a inside point of view. Not changing any of outside look. *edit* GM beat me too it by a minute! Edited August 9, 2006 by Mechinyun Quote
Skull-1 Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 My color scheme would be Max's but the guy in my novel is the dude in my avatar... So I m going with that!!!!! Quote
GeneralMayhem Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 The cycle helmet I'm building it up from came yesterday. The shape is perfect, and this all new build is very exciting to work on. Quote
Roy's Blues Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 GeneralMayhem-Will you be offering a Macross Plus, Isamu style helmet, complete with clear top? I am pretty sure there is a way to make clear resin/plastic. 422487 If enough Series version Macross helmets are sold, yes, I'll consider doing a Macross Plus version. Clear plastic is not a problem. 423173 That's good news1 I am not interested in the regular series or a DYRL? helmets. I hope they sell well enough for Isamu's to happen. Macross Plus was what got me back into Macross, so it's the one I really want. I'll be ordering the fully painted version with reinforcement and straps! Quote
Deadite Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Hey guys i might be interest in getting one, I would prefer a DYRL. Hopefully we can do business, ALSo i've been a fan of your forum for years. Quote
Scream Man Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 (edited) i have to admit, an isamu helmet would be MIGHTY tempting.... Edited August 18, 2006 by Scream Man Quote
ruskiiVFaussie Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 (edited) bah! TV helm baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's cool GM! Whip out the pics! Ohh can we see a pic of the cycle helm GM? Edited August 18, 2006 by ruskiiVFaussie Quote
GeneralMayhem Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 It's a stock cycle helmet, to provide the shape of the upper dome and surround. ~ GM Quote
big F Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 It's a stock cycle helmet, to provide the shape of the upper dome and surround. ~ GM 426120 That said then i suppose you could make one bonded directly to the helmet and then although it probably wouldnt be road legal, wear it. Quote
GeneralMayhem Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Considering it wouldn't be "road legal", why bother? If someone can find the regs on what the DOT considers "road legal", I can look into making one that is, for those that want them. Quote
Ghadrack Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Here is a link on Motorcycle Helmet information. http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/..._helmet_review/ Basically there is a lot of science that goes into motor cycle crash safety and design. Still watching eagerly, thanks for the update! Quote
ruskiiVFaussie Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 Cool! Interestinggggggggggggggg... Keep keepin us updated Gm! The stock helm looks perfect for the job. lol, i dunno, if you crashed an burned a certain way wouldn't the point of the helm stab you in the lower abdomen or worse!? lol I guess that's without being strapped in. Come to think of it Hikaru was never strapped in his Valk for a few episodes there! Saving Minmay, Saving Misa.. don't try it at home kids! Quote
hirohawa Posted August 19, 2006 Author Posted August 19, 2006 It would be cool if they could actually be used as a helmet. I go to a road caorse with my car that requires a helmet. In fact I have a shiny Bell helmet that I use for this. Hmm. Would making it a reak helmet hike up the cost signifigantly? Quote
GeneralMayhem Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 From that article, it looks like having something DOT or otherwise certified entails having them intentionally crush X number of helmets to see how they hold up, and I'm not making a bunch of free helmets just to have them destroyed. Extra fiberglass reinforcemet can be added for a reasonable charge. I can't guarantee them as DOT certified or anything specific like that. It's more of a "use at your own discretion" kind of thing. But they can be made more durable than I'm already making them. ~ GM Quote
Scream Man Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Probably better to just er on the side of caution and assume it ISNT roadsafe. Quote
GeneralMayhem Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Yes. Better safe than sorry, guys. Use common sense and don't endanger yourselves for the sake of wearing someting cool looking. Please? Quote
ruskiiVFaussie Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Just make sure you cover yourself legally GM. Big ass sticker saying, ***oi! This ani't a certified crash helm ya twits!*** C'mon people don't be bloody idiots and injure youselves. Quote
Skullsixx Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I figure if you're starting off with a certified helmet to begin with, then just simply adding on to it as a modification in aesthetics can't possibly take any rating away unless you are somehow taking away from the actual structure of the orginal helmet itself. But then again... I'm no expert! Just my two cents. Quote
GeneralMayhem Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 The crash rating seems to be governed by how the helmet would crumple or delaminate in the case of a fiberglass reinforced helmet, so it sounds like they might be functional in that regard. But if it were me using it, I'd rather err on the side of caution and reccomend safety over fandom. Quote
Skullsixx Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Very true!!! I was just curious. I may be in for one for display when they are ready. Quote
Deadite Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 A couple of years ago one of my good friends was in a pretty bad motocycle accident where his body was tossed around for a good 30 feet feet over PCH, he broke his ankle and wrist, one of the bones in his hand broke the skin and was poping out and the paint and visor on his helmit were completely ripped off the helmet, I remember him telling me that if he didnt have his helmet on they would probable be scrapping his brains off the road. i would really love to get his helmet as a display piece. I would never consider using it as a riding piece, Better safe than sorry. Quote
Skullsixx Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 What I may do is get a certified dirt bike helmet and have someone do a custom Macross paint job on it. That way I know I'm covered!!! Quote
ruskiiVFaussie Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 man i can't wait!!! The visor is of interest to me, any news on how you will incorporate it GM? Will it slide down somehow? That would be filth! Hikaru never used it that much. Quote
GeneralMayhem Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 The visor will slide up into the helmet on the deluxe version. I plan to use military surplus visors, like you see on stock APH helmets. Quote
EXO Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 man i can't wait!!!The visor is of interest to me, any news on how you will incorporate it GM? Will it slide down somehow? That would be filth! Hikaru never used it that much. 426899 the visor (in the TV series) was used in space along with the chin guard with the collars tucked in (air tight). In atmosphere, the visor was up and the chin guard is off and you see the big ass collars untucked. So he used the visor a lot if you think about it. Quote
