jgrose
From the AN news page today: According to the Natsume Goushin Ryu Dojo ( http://natsumemaya.terminus.net.au/news.htm ), the Japanese Comic Flapper Magazine has announced that Kaoru Shintani's classic military adventure story Area 88 will be revived for a new anime TV series next year. Jemstone
Yeah, but who's gonna play Shin? Kaneto Shiozawa died three years ago. A sound alike sounds good to me. I'm just happy they are breathing life back into Area 88. Stupid CPM won't even release allt he OAVs on DVD.
milty66
Is there any news if it's going to be a retelling of the story from the beginning, or a continuation like kadokawa did with Arslan? This actually has me excited again....A-88 is one of my favorite stories ever.

Apollo Leader
If this is true, I wonder if the new series will pick up where part three ended or will this be a totally new interpretation that may or may not be set in 1979-1982?
Gaijin
Very cool news indeed...hope Sega or Namco grabs the rights to make an updated video game. The old Capcom arcade/SNES UN Squadron version was one of my favorite shooters. Edited October 6, 2003 by Gaijin
yellowlightman
I'm guessing that since the manga are pretty old, they might just reuse the characters in a new story? But I'd certainly prefer them using the original story, especially since I never completed my collection of the old Eclipse comics.

Knight26
Totally sweet, I wonder if it will be a retelling with a whole new storyline, an animated version of the whole manga run, which would be sweet, or a continuation of the animated storyline. Personnally I hope for an animated version of the original manga.
